I want to buy an automatic car for city driving, mainly for commuting between home and office. My budget is โ‚น7 lakh.

For your requirement of an automatic car under Rs 7 lakh for city driving, we would suggest going for the Maruti Suzuki Celerio VXI AMT.

It is a proven product and well-suited for daily city use. The 1.0-litre petrol engine is refined for a 3-cylinder unit and feels responsive, with enough torque for typical city conditions. The AMT gearbox is well-calibrated and smooth, which makes it easy to drive in stop-go traffic.

My running is very low, mostly in the city. Sometimes I do around 300 km trips (both sides). I am planning to buy a new car within โ‚น10 lakh. I am confused between three options: Punch, Exter, and Brezza. Please suggest.

Go with the Hyundai Exter. It is the best vehicle within your budget and for city usage. You will only get a base model Maruti Suzuki Brezza LXi in your budget, and while a high-spec Tata Punch will fall in your budget, it isn't particularly smooth, refined or fuel-efficient.
The Hyundai Exter, which has just been given a mild facelift, offers a smooth and refined 1.2-litre petrol engine and a relatively smooth AMT gearbox. The AMT is preferable over the MT gearbox as the majority of your driving is in the city, and the convenience of not having a clutch will be appreciated. It's well-equipped at this price, and running costs will be relatively reasonable as well.

I am planning to buy a car with a budget of 15-17 lakh. My average monthly running is 1500 km. I have short-listed the Grand Vitara Zeta mild hybrid variant. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Zeta (O) MT is a good choice that meets most of your needs. It comes in under Rs 17 lakh, and its excellent fuel economy should be good for your relatively high running of 1,500km per month. This is a Maruti car, so maintenance will be easy on the pocket too, estimated at Rs 4,000-6,000 per service, which happens at 10,000km intervals. It's reasonably comfortable too, with a well-sorted suspension.
The only downside is the driving dynamics, which aren't geared to enthusiastic driving. While the chassis is well-engineered, the steering feels light and slow. Most of all, though, the 105hp petrol engine isn't particularly exciting, tuned as it is for fuel economy.
For a more engaging drive, consider the Skoda Kushaq, though bear in mind you'll only get a low-spec Signature 1.0 TSI MT variant at your budget, and it won't be as good as the Maruti on running costs.

I own a 2019 Baleno top model, which is in perfect condition. Recently, I got an offer from a Hyundai dealer for a last-year manufactured i20 Magna model at โ‚น7 lakh on-road. I am confused about whether I should buy the i20 or continue with the Baleno.

If the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is in good condition and serving you well, there's no real need to switch to the Hyundai i20. The i20 Magna is a low-spec variant and misses out on many features that are part of the package on your Baleno Alpha trim model. Among the features on the Baleno Alpha that are not on the i20 Magna are auto climate control, keyless entry, touchscreen infotainment system, etc.
In essence, the switch will feel like a downgrade and is not recommended.

My yearly running is 15,000 km, mainly on highways. I am searching for a car that provides good safety and very comfortable rear seats for long journeys, as I have elders who travel with me. Good thigh support for long journeys is important. My budget is โ‚น12 lakh. Which car should I consider, and which fuel type?

There are quite a few options within your budget, but we'll trim the list down to the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (and its twin, the Toyota Rumion).
The Mahindra XUV 3XO is a tough compact SUV with a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. It is quite roomy for its size with ample space at the back. Good ride comfort is also a plus. Punchy engines also make it well-suited to highway drives.
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza isn't as punchy as the Mahindra XUV 3XO, but it has very comfortable rear seats, good ride comfort, and is very easy to get into and out of, which your parents will appreciate.
If you are open to a larger vehicle, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga VXi (or higher spec) ZXi is an option. The large rear doors and elevated seating position make getting in and out very comfortable. The large rear windows, backrest adjust, and soft seat cushioning are other aspects your parents will like. Performance isn't great, but power is enough for relaxed highway drives.

Which car to buy, Jimmy or Skoda Kushaq? I live in Manali and want to have some luxury too.

The choice of model depends on your usage. If you go for trips outside Manali and need off-road ability, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny is the right pick for you. It is a superb off-roader and will let you explore trails around Manali. The 4x4 capability will also come very handy in the rain when it tends to get slushy and in the winter when you'll have snow to deal with. The Jimny's narrow width also makes it manageable on tight, hilly roads. On the flipside, the turning circle is large, so you'll need to put in more effort on narrow winding roads. What also works against the Jimny is its engine's performance. It lacks punch and can feel frustratingly underpowered.
If you don't intend to use your vehicle for off-road adventures and will only use your car in fair weather, the Skoda Kushaq is easily the better everyday choice in terms of performance, comfort and features. Its turbocharged 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines deliver punchy performance, which you will appreciate on hilly roads. The Kushaq is also significantly roomier than the Jimny.
Do note, the Jimny is a four-seater while the Kushaq can accommodate five passengers in reasonable comfort. The Kushaq also packs in more features and technology, giving it a more premium feel.

Suggest a car under โ‚น10 lakh. My requirements are at least 350 litres of boot space, comfort for all passengers, rear AC vents, cruise control, awesome stability on highways, and low outside noise in the cabin. My running is 40% city and 60% highway, including hills. I am planning to upgrade from an i10 1.1 iRDE2, which delivers around 12-14kpl fuel efficiency in the city and 17-19kpl on highways. So fuel efficiency should be more or less similar. I am not prepared for a major drop.

We would recommend you look at the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. You will need to opt for the top-end ZXi Plus model, which is right around your budget and will come equipped with the features you want, such as cruise control and rear AC vents. The car is also fairly spacious at the front or the rear, though taller folks - those nearer to 6 feet, will fit headroom tight. The Dzire's fuel efficiency is very good, in our standard tests, the manual car returned 14.5kpl in the city and 20kpl in our highway cycle, while the automatic returned 11.6kpl in the city and 19.22kpl on the highway.
Thus, your requirement for fuel efficiency will also be met. Ride and stability at highway speeds are also good, and boot space stands at 382 litres, which is more than your stated requirement, though the wheel wells do intrude a fair bit, and the rear seats do not fold down; thus, examine this closely to see if it meets your requirements.

I am planning to buy the Kia Sonet 1.0-litre turbo petrol HTK(O) DCT. My monthly running will be around 300 km, mostly within Delhi city. However, I have come across several videos mentioning issues with turbo engines and DCT transmissions. This has made me concerned about long-term reliability and suitability for city driving. For your usage of around 300 km per month, purely in city conditions, it makes more sense to go for a simpler and more fuss-free setup rather than a turbo petrol with a DCT.

The Kia Sonet 1.0 turbo DCT is a good car. But this combination is better suited for higher usage and mixed driving, where you can actually enjoy its performance. In heavy city traffic, especially in Delhi, DCT gearboxes can feel a bit sensitive in slow crawling conditions, and with your low running, you wonโ€™t really benefit from what it offers.

In comparison, the Maruti Fronx 1.2 AMT is a simpler and more reliable option for your kind of usage. It is easier to live with in the long run, especially since your running is low and mostly in stop-go traffic. While the AMT is not as smooth as a DCT and performance is modest, it is perfectly adequate for daily city use.

Overall, for your usage, the Fronx AMT is the more practical and stress-free choice. The Sonet turbo DCT makes sense only if you specifically want better performance and are comfortable with a more complex setup.

While there's a whole host of compact SUV options within your budget, it's the Maruti Suzuki Brezza that fits your needs best. Sure, it's not an exciting choice, but it is a very sensible one.
Comfort is a highlight. The suspension setup and the soft seat cushioning come together to deliver good comfort, something you'll appreciate over Mumbai's pothole-laden roads. The easy-going 1.5-litre petrol engine is also well-suited to city use with smooth power delivery and ready power at low speeds. Since the bulk of your usage is in the city, you should consider the Brezza automatic. The 6-speed automatic transmission isn't sporty by any means, but it is smooth and adds greatly to convenience in chock-a-block city driving.
The Brezza is also known to be a very reliable product without irritating software glitches that plague some rival models. Of course, there's also Maruti's widespread service network, which comes with the promise of a stress-free ownership experience. Our suggestion would be to choose between the Brezza VXi AT or ZXi AT.
