This Hyundai car is spacious, feature-rich and feels like a huge step up over your outgoing car. And it will easily fit your Rs 10-12 lakh budget.However, since you've mentioned that you want a car of a similar size to the Santro, we'd advise you to opt for the Grand i10 Nios instead. It is more compact in size than an i20, which makes it easier to drive and manage. It is powered by the same engine as the i20, although it's mated to an AMT, which gets you the convenience of an automatic, but is not as smooth as the i20's transmission. The automatic is fine for the city, just know that at crawling speeds it can feel a little jerky if you stomp the accelerator - be gentle, and it’s smooth enough.If you want something closer to your Swift in size and feel, and can stretch a bit, the new Swift VXi automatic or Hyundai Grand i10 Nios automatic feel nicer inside and rides better, but you will spend a bit more.

We are planning to buy a car and are confused between the Hyundai i20 Asta Optional and the Hyundai Venue HX6T 1.2-litre NA petrol. Our budget is up to Rs. 12.5 lakh, and we drive around 8,000km annually, mostly in the city with light to moderate traffic. We occasionally take highway trips. We currently own a 2015 Wagon R VXi. It offers the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine as the Venue, but being lighter, it should feel a little more responsive and should also be slightly more fuel-efficient. Considering you're comparing the top-spec i20 Asta (O) with a mid-spec Venue HX6, the i20 also offers a more premium cabin, a richer feature list and, at over Rs 2 lakh less, represents significantly better value for money.The Hyundai Venue HX6 is worth considering if you specifically want the higher seating position and SUV styling. However, with the same engine, the extra weight means it is unlikely to offer any performance advantage, and you'll be paying a significant premium primarily for the SUV body style.Coming from a 2015 Wagon R, both cars will feel like a substantial upgrade in terms of refinement, comfort and features. Unless the higher driving position is a non-negotiable requirement, we'd save the money and choose the i20.

Buy a simple petrol automatic hatchback or compact sedan with a naturally aspirated engine. It suits your 200 km a month, occasional 400 km trips, and makes learning easy. Diesel won’t pay back for your usage and can hate short runs. CNG saves only with high km and is a pain on highway trips with long queues and a small boot. Budget electric cars under Rs. 15 lakh can work only if you have home charging and don’t mind planning stops on those 400 km runs.Stick to a naturally aspirated petrol. It’s smoother at low speeds, simpler for 8-10 year ownership, and real-world mileage is steadier than small turbos that tempt you to drive harder and are sensitive to driving style. Get the automatic to reduce stress; you’ll drive more often because it’s easy.Models that fit your plan and budget now and should still be around in 2027 (if that is what you mean): Maruti Suzuki Baleno or Toyota Glanza automatic for top mileage and easy city manners, Honda Amaze automatic if you want a comfy sedan with a big boot for trips, or Tata Punch automatic if you like a higher seat and extra ground clearance. You’ll give up a little mileage with an automatic, but the ease is worth it.

Hi Autocar team, I need your help in choosing an automatic family car that is reliable, safe and builds confidence in a new driver. I am planning to replace my 2017 Maruti Baleno Alpha petrol as it feels flimsy and dents very easily. Further, it no longer inspire confidence on highways and its braking confidence is also not great. I would appreciate your recommendations for another car. I am currently based in Pune and have planned for BH registration because there is a reasonable possibility of moving to another state in the future (most likely among Madhya Pradesh, Bangalore or Delhi). I will be primarily using it for city driving (90%) with occasional highway trips that may be very long (up to 1,000 km) sometimes. I usually travel with 2 adults and 1 child. I am looking for a car that can comfortably accommodate 4 adults and 1 child whenever required. My annual running is currently under 8,000 km, but it could increase significantly because there will be two drivers and an automatic car is likely to be used more. There will be one experienced driver who is comfortable with car of any size. Second driver is relatively new and gets intimidated by judging front-left corner and vehicle dimensions. I am looking for features such as rear camera that can help in significantly building confidence. I want to first look for a car in Rs. 10 lakh on-road mark but am comfortable with spending around Rs. 14 to 16 lakh if the car offers more safety, confidence and better ownership experience. I am looking for the best overall fit rather than trying to maximize budget. My priorities are reliability and hassle-free ownership, safety, easy maneuverability and confidence in city traffic. I value predictable ownership, service quality and peace of mind more than outright performance. I am comfortable with either petrol, hybrid or EV car with automatic transmission. EV seems interesting because I have a dedicated parking and home charging is possible. My area has mostly good roads with occasional monsoon-related road damage. More importantly, which body style would you choose among premium hatchback, compact SUV, midsize SUV, hybrid SUV or EV? Which popular models you will not choose despite their popularity, and why? How much importance should I give to reliability versus crash safety while choosing a family car that will mostly be driven in the city but I make take it occasionally for long highway trips? Resale should be decent too, since Tata EVs are in high demand.For daily 60-70 km, the Tiago EV 24kWh will handle a full day with AC on and still have a buffer. Pick the Maruti Fronx turbo within your Rs. 12 lakh budget, because it stays easy to park in the city yet feels secure on a 900 km run with enough room for five. The 1.0 turbo has decent mid-range for quick overtakes, and the suspension is absorbent and yet keeps the car steady at highway speeds. If you are opting for the automatic, then the Fronx torque converter auto is a very smooth unit and will make life much easier in the city.If you want an even smaller, lighter car with lower running costs, go for the Maruti Swift. It is smooth in the city, easy on fuel, has a usable boot for three, and will cruise comfortably at 100. It can take five in a pinch, but it will feel tight on shoulder room and lack the highway punch of the turbo Fronx.

I am a first-time car buyer with a family of four. I am looking for a car with a maximum budget of Rs 12 lakh in Bangalore. I am considering automatic compact SUVs or hatchbacks that have 5-star crash ratings and decent mileage. Go for the Honda Amaze sedan. For mostly city use, it is easy to drive and park, yet the 420 litre boot makes those 4-5 road trips far simpler than a hatchback. Coming from a Mobilio, you will also like the comfy ride and the familiar Honda smoothness. Pick the automatic, which will be friendly and easy to use in the city where you spend most of your time.One honest catch is power. It is fine in the city and steady at 90-100 km/h, but quick highway overtakes with a full load will need some planning.If you are set on a hatchback, the Maruti Baleno or Fronx are the most sensible city choices thanks to light controls, good space and very good mileage, and they are calmer on highways than most small hatches. If safety and rough-road stability matter more than mileage, the Tata Altroz is the sturdier hatch, though its petrol feels just okay.Overall, for your usage mix and past MPV ownership, the Amaze fits best.

I am looking for a manual petrol hatchback (preferably non-Maruti) within 10 lakhs on road price in Thrissur. Priorities (in order) are road visibility comparable to Wagon R, short turning radius, airbags for driver and front passenger, rear camera with sensors, central locking, tinted glass, decent infotainment unit, and reasonable seating for 3 abreast in the back seat. Also, how does the Citroen C3 measure for the above requirements and against the Punch & i10?

Given your comfort with the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, we'd advise you against a conventional hatchback and recommend you look at a sub-compact SUV. The high seating is a boon and will put you at immediate ease in the car. Options that meet your requirements within a Rs 10 lakh budget include the Hyundai Exter, Tata Punch and Citroen C3. The Tata Punch offers more of what you need. It's got the widest cabin (though it's still not ideal as a 5 seater) and packs in all the features that you need, and then a whole lot more. The Citroen C3 makes a compelling case for itself with the best engines, well-sorted ride and handling and the cabin experience is also vastly improved with the recent feature update. However, it's not quite as roomy as the Punch, and Citroen's service network is also not as widespread as Tata or Hyundai's.The Hyundai Exter is an easy-going option that's also worth a look.
