The all-new Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 wears a fresh and cheerful design that bears little resemblance to its predecessor. Built on the Heartect platform shared with the S-Presso, it has a large hexagonal grille, slim headlamps and a gently raked C-pillar that give it a more modern and slightly sporty silhouette for this segment. A high beltline and 13-inch wheels tailored to compact proportions keep the stance balanced, even if the wheels do look small under the tall greenhouse.
The body structure feels solid for a budget hatch and engineering priorities clearly aim at easy daily mobility, lightness and straight-forward simplicity rather than high-speed stability or sporty handling.
6
The cabin is simple but well sorted for its class. A digital instrument cluster mounted behind the wheel is basic yet clear, offering only the essentials in terms of speed and fuel level, but suits the Alto’s no-nonsense character. Controls are easy to reach, and the steering wheel carries convenient volume and phone buttons.
Materials are hard but durable, appropriate for long-term use, and packaging gains meaningful legroom and headroom in what remains a compact footprint. The rear bench will comfortably seat two adults, three abreast is a squeeze and under-thigh support is well judged given the Alto’s small cabin space. Boot capacity is 214 litres, useful for daily luggage, though the load lip sits a little high.
8
Under the hood sits a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AGS (automatic gear shift) transmission. The engine produces about 67 hp and 89 Nm, and delivers brisk low-speed performance that makes the Alto K10 feel eager in city traffic. Acceleration is strongest in the upper half of its rev range, and the motor never feels strained even when worked hard.
Refinement is surprisingly good for a small three-cylinder unit. The engine gets audible when revved hard but lacks harshness or strain, and part-throttle responses in urban flow are smooth. The AGS, while smooth and responsive to kicks when needed, is slightly slower than the manual at overtakes due to distinct pauses between gear shifts, typical of single-clutch automatics.
8
Fuel efficiency continues to be a key strength of the Alto K10. Official ARAI figures are around 24.39 kmpl for the manual and 24.90 kmpl for the AGS, making it one of the most fuel-efficient budget cars available. These returns align with expectations for an entry-level hatchback and are likely to appeal to cost-conscious buyers seeking low running costs.
7
Ride quality is well attuned to urban conditions. The Alto’s light steering and compact dimensions make it nimble in tight traffic and easy to park. Its short wheelbase and high ground clearance help it handle typical city potholes with aplomb, and wider pavement breaches often pass through with minimal fuss.
At higher speeds, however, the steering feels vague and lacks confidence, and the ride becomes choppier over uneven stretches. Body motions are palpable when pushed hard, and the Alto lacks the planted feel of larger cars, so it’s best enjoyed at moderate speeds.
6
Equipment is basic, though the digital cluster and steering-mounted controls elevate the experience for an entry-level hatch. Connectivity and convenience features such as a touchscreen system appear only in higher trims, and essentials like power windows and mirrors vary by variant. Safety kit includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and front pretensioners, plus rear parking sensors in top variants — adequate for this segment.
7
Priced from around Rs 4 lakh to about Rs 5.8 lakh ex-showroom, the Alto K10 occupies the heart of India’s budget hatch segment. It stays true to the Alto’s original philosophy - simple, dependable and ultra-practical, while adding modern touches such as the digital cluster and efficient powertrain. Its suitability as an urban commuter with excellent fuel efficiency, easy manoeuvrability and low running costs makes it especially compelling for first-time buyers and city dwellers alike.

•1dI primarily drive within Delhi city and am usually the sole occupant of the car. I am confused between the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 AMT and the Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT. Which one would be the better choice for my needs? Please suggest.

Autocar India
Get the Alto K10 AMT. For solo Delhi city use, its small size is the real win - it squeezes into tight gaps, parking won't be an issue, and the light steering makes driving in traffic easy. It uses the same engine and automatic as the Celerio, but the Alto is lighter, so it feels a touch nippier off the line and returns better mileage in stop-go runs. In Delhi heat, the smaller cabin cools quicker too, which you will appreciate. One honest downside: the Alto’s cabin is narrower, the boot is smaller and ride over bad patches is okay, not great. The Celerio has a softer ride and roomier cabin. So if you often carry passengers or luggage, or want a slightly cushier ride, the Celerio is nicer. But if it’s mostly you, the Alto K10 AMT is the smarter, more affordable choice.

•2dDoes the Alto K10 VXI+ variant justify the incremental cost of 50 thousand over the Alto K10 VXI Variant? Which variant is the most value for money?

Autocar India
Go for the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 VXI. For most buyers, the VXI+ doesn’t justify the extra Rs. 50,000 because the big add-on is the 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and some minor trim bits, while everything that matters for daily use stays the same. You get the same engine, safety kit, AC, power steering, front power windows and remote locking, so the drive and ownership feel do not change. If you want phone mirroring, a good coupler-to-coupler head unit from Maruti Genuine Accessories or a reputed brand will cost far less than Rs. 50,000, still keep things neat, and you can even add a reverse camera within that budget. Resale difference between VXI and VXI+ on this car is usually small, so you won’t “recover” that extra spend later.Buy the VXI+ only if you specifically want a factory-fitted screen and seamless integration with no fiddling, or you hate aftermarket work. It looks cleaner, and you avoid any chance of wiring errors. Otherwise, the VXI is the clear value pick and lets you spend the savings on better tyres or accessories you will actually use.

•3dFirst-time car buyer on a tight budget of 5 lacs. Confused between the Alto K10 VXI variant and the Celerio LXI variant. I run 1000- 1500 kms monthly on Rural roads & highways. Which car will be more suitable for me?

Autocar India
The Maruti Celerio LXI would be the better choice for your usage. Since both the Alto K10 and Celerio use the same 1.0-litre petrol engine, there is very little to separate them in terms of outright performance. Both are adequately powered for city use and can handle occasional highway runs without feeling strained.Where the Celerio pulls ahead is in its overall package. It is a larger car with a more spacious cabin, a bigger boot and a more comfortable ride. It also feels more settled on highways and copes better with rough rural roads, which is particularly relevant given your monthly running and usage pattern. The Alto K10 VXI counters with a lower price and a better feature list than the Celerio LXI. It is also easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces. However, it feels more like an entry-level hatchback, whereas the Celerio feels a class above in terms of space and comfort.

•2wHi, I am looking to buy either the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 or the Renault Kwid AMT. My budget is around ₹6 lakh, and my daily usage will be approximately 25–30 km in Bengaluru traffic. Could you please suggest which would be the better option for city driving, comfort, fuel efficiency, reliability, and ease of use in traffic? Also, which of these cars comes with hill hold assist? Thank you.

Autocar India
Daily 25-30 km in slow Bengaluru traffic and a Rs. 6 lakh cap - in this use, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 AMT is the better pick. It feels smoother and easier in stop-go than the Kwid’s gearbox, so your right foot and left shoulder will both work less in jams. It also tends to use less fuel, and Maruti’s service reach in Bengaluru is wide, which helps keep running simple. The small size makes tight parking and narrow lanes less stressful.Trade-offs you should know: the cabin and boot are smaller than the Renault Kwid’s, and the ride feels basic on broken roads. The Kwid sits higher and gives a bit more space, so pick the Renault only if you really want the higher ground clearance and a larger-feeling cabin. But be ready for a gearbox that feels slower to respond in traffic. Both the Alto K10 automatic and the Kwid automatic offer hill-start assist. Overall, for your city commute and budget, the Alto K10 automatic fits best.

•5wI am planning to buy my first car. My net annual income is around ₹5 lakh, and this car is for my parents. Kindly suggest which brand and model I should consider. My main criteria are fuel efficiency (petrol), ride comfort, and safety.

Autocar India
With your income and priorities, you should focus on low cost, high fuel efficiency and ease of driving. The Alto K10 fits this perfectly. It is one of the most affordable cars in India, delivers excellent mileage and is extremely easy to drive in the city, which is ideal for your parents. It is also inexpensive to maintain and backed by Maruti’s wide service network, which keeps ownership stress very low. Over time, this matters more than anything else.If you want more space and a slightly more premium feel, then the Maruti Suzuki Celerio is the next step. It offers better cabin space, a more comfortable ride and still maintains strong fuel efficiency and low running costs. It feels like a more complete car, especially if your parents value comfort.

•6wHi Autocar Team, I am planning to buy my first car and am new to driving. I live in Chennai and will primarily use the car in city traffic on weekends (around 80% city and 20% highway). I have shortlisted the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Automatic (top model). My maximum budget is ₹7 lakh (on-road). We are a family of four, all under 5'6" in height. My key requirements are: Easy drivability Decent driving dynamics Peppy performance Hassle-free ownership experience I was advised to consider a used car within this budget, but I am unsure due to the uncertainty involved, especially as I am new to car buying and have not found a satisfactory used option yet. Could you please suggest suitable alternatives to the Alto K10 within my budget? Also, should I go ahead with a new car like the Alto K10 or wait and look for a good used car instead?

Autocar India
You are new to driving, you want hassle-free ownership, and you are unsure about evaluating used cars. In this case, a new car gives you peace of mind, a warranty and zero uncertainty, which is far more important than getting a bigger used car. A used car can be a good value, but only if you know what to check or have a trusted source, which you currently don’t.The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 AMT is actually a very good starting point. It is compact, extremely easy to drive, has light controls and is very forgiving in traffic, which is exactly what a beginner needs. It is also very efficient and cheap to maintain, which is why it is often recommended as a first car. However, since you are a family of four and will use it on weekends too, you can do slightly better within your budget. The Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT is the stronger recommendation. It gives you more space, a more comfortable rear seat and a slightly more stable feel on highways compared to the Alto. It is still very easy to drive, has light controls and excellent fuel efficiency, and Maruti’s service network keeps ownership stress low.

•7wI’m looking for a compact mini SUV or a small car with a petrol automatic. My daily usage is under 25 km, and my monthly usage is under 1,000 km. My budget is a maximum of Rs 6 lakh, and my priority is the best fuel economy.

Autocar India
The Maruti Alto K10 VXI AMT is the only one that fits your requirements. It suits your use because the car is small and light, so the 1.0 petrol delivers excellent fuel efficiency. In our experience, this Maruti 1.0 engine paired with the AMT is among the most fuel-efficient petrol automatics you can buy. It is also simple to own, with low service costs and a wide dealer reach, which will make your ownership experience stress-free. Do note the trade-offs. The back seat and boot are small, on rough roads it can feel a bit bouncy, and it's not best suited to highway duties. If you really want a taller, mini SUV look, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso VXI AMT is the closest match, but in many cities, its on-road price will cross Rs. 6 lakh.

•7wI want to buy a small car with AMT. My budget is 6 lakh. Please advise.

Autocar India
City use on a tight Rs 6 lakh cap, and you want an automatic that shifts on its own, in that case, the Maruti Alto K10 VXi (O) AT is the one that fits best. The automatic is smooth as far as AMTs go, and it makes stop-start traffic easy without pushing the price too high. The engine feels lively at city speeds, so you do not have to work it hard to keep up. It also uses less fuel in daily use, and Maruti’s wide service network keeps upkeep simple and affordable. As for the trade-offs, the back seat and boot are small, so it is best for one or two people. Also, the AMT has a brief pause when it changes gears, so shifts are not as smooth as a costlier full automatic, though you get used to it quickly. If you prefer a higher driving position and can stretch a bit, check the Maruti S-Presso VXi (O). In some cities, it may cross Rs 6 lakh on-road, so confirm local prices. Overall, for mostly city driving at this budget, the Alto lines up best with what you want.

•10wI’m looking to buy my first car. Usage is 90% city and 10% highway. Budget under ₹5 lakh.

Autocar India
Go for the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 VXi (O) MT as it fits your requirements. At roughly 3.5 m long with a tight turning radius, it will be ideal for driving in congested city traffic and will fit into small parking spots. As a first-time buyer, you’ll appreciate the light steering and clutch in stop‑and-go traffic and being a Maruti car, you'll also appreciate the stress-free ownership experience it comes with. The one thing you give up is high‑speed composure. Above about 90kph, it feels light and gets noisy, so highway stints are best kept calm and brief. If you prioritise stronger crash safety or expect more highway runs later, consider a well‑kept pre‑owned 2021-22 Tata Tiago XZ instead. It scored 4‑star adult protection in NCAP tests.

•13wSuggest a good automatic car petrol within 6 lakh.

Autocar India
Unfortunately, you don't have too many automatic options within Rs 6 lakh (on-road). Your options are Maruti Alto, Maruti S-Presso, Renault Kwid, and thanks to some on-going discounts, you could even manage to get a Celerio VXi AMT, which is the nicest and most premium option among the ones listed.
