I want to buy an SUV-type CNG car in a budget of Rs 12-13 lakh. It would be ideal if I could get a CNG model with an automatic transmission. What are the good options for me?
If you want a CNG SUV with an automatic gearbox, the options are limited. In your budget of Rs 12-13 lakh, the Tata Punch CNG AMT is the best option. It is a well-rounded sub-compact SUV with a dual-tank CNG system, good ride comfort and the AMT you want. The drawback is that the powertrain isn't the most refined, and the AMT has a noticeable pause between shifts. If you are open to a manual, then the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG is a better bet. Its engine is more refined; it is a larger car, so it feels roomier inside, and it has an underfloor CNG tank, so boot space is not affected.
Hello Autocar Team, I would appreciate your expert advice in choosing my second car. Please suggest the top three recommendations under Rs 12 lakh, automatic, and comfortable for a family of five. I previously owned a Fiat Punto Dynamic Diesel. I used it daily for around 70km, plus one outstation trip every month. Now I've relocated to Pune, and my running has reduced substantially to under 500km per month, with occasional trips. My requirements are: Budget: Rs 10-12 lakh on-road (slightly flexible). Type: Automatic family car, comfortable for five adults. Priorities: Value for money, low running and maintenance costs, safety, features, good boot space, reliability, and hassle-free long-term ownership. Given my reduced usage, I'm open to petrol, EV, or CNG as well. Please suggest the best options that would suit my requirements. Looking forward to your guidance.
We'd recommend stretching your budget slightly for the new Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi Automatic.Although it's priced just above your stated budget of Rs 10-12 lakh on road, the extra spend is justified. The recently launched Brezza brings a more modern package while retaining its proven 1.5-litre petrol engine and smooth automatic gearbox. It comfortably seats five adults, offers good ride quality, generous ground clearance, a practical boot and low maintenance costs. Combined with Maruti Suzuki's extensive service network, it makes for one of the most hassle-free family cars you can own over the long term.If you prefer to stay strictly within budget, the Toyota Taisor S AMT is another sensible option. It offers Toyota's reliable ownership experience, good fuel efficiency and decent space for a small family. The Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro Automatic is also worth considering if you prioritise performance, although its boot is among the smallest in the segment.
I have a Honda BRV automatic that is now almost 8 years old. I installed an aftermarket CNG kit about 3.5 years ago because of my high mileage of around 2,000km per month, and it has helped immensely. The urge to upgrade is growing, although the options I am considering are all in the Rs. 25-30 lakh bracket. The XL6 is cheaper, but I am not sure if it is a suitable replacement. Please advise.
When you factor in inflation and how the segments have moved, a 7-seat SUV like the BR-V would cost Rs 25 lakh today, so your estimate is spot on there. The Maruti Suzuki XL6 is an excellent MPV, but might not feel like a sufficient upgrade from your BR-V in terms of size, space, quality and creature comforts. Plus, to match the running costs of your CNG BR-V, you'd have to choose a CNG version of the XL6, which is only officially available in a low-spec Zeta spec, and only in manual-gearbox guise. Our recommendation would be the Hyundai Alcazar diesel automatic. It's smooth, efficient and spacious, while also giving you the SUV body style with arguably greater road presence than your BR-V, and will thus feel like a proper upgrade. You will get a fully loaded variant for around Rs 26 lakh, which offers plenty of creature comforts and tech.If your budget is tighter than that, also consider the Kia Carens Clavis diesel AT. It costs a little less, and doesn't get you the SUV body style, but it's actually more spacious than the Alcazar, with the same efficient powertrain, and a similarly high-quality cabin.Overall, however, we feel the Alcazar diesel AT is the best bet for you.
My daily commute is 100-125 km, with 50% city traffic and the remaining 50% on state highways where speeds do not exceed 80-90 km/h. I am currently using a 2018 Swift AGS with no issues. With a budget of Rs. 15 lakhs, please suggest an EV or any CNG car with automatic transmission. My main purpose is to reduce fuel expenses.
With 100-125 km a day and Rs. 15 lakh budget, the Tata Nexon EV Creative 45kWh fits your brief best. It will cut your running cost sharply, stays in budget, and the single-gear drive feels far smoother than your Swift’s automatic in stop-go traffic. For your mix of city and 80-90 kph state roads, it moves easily at low speeds and stays steady at cruise. The higher seat and comfortable ride also help on broken patches and speed breakers.Do check two things: you should be able to park at home and plug in overnight, and at 80-90kph with AC the range will drop a bit, so keep some spare range in hand. In our real world tests, we managed 355km on a single charge so you will need to charge it once every two days. If you must go CNG, consider the Tata Altroz iCNG automatic. It lowers fuel spend and keeps the easy drive, but it feels slower on CNG, the boot is smaller, and CNG pump queues can eat time. For your daily run and savings goal, go with a Nexon EV.
I am a senior citizen and have been driving manual cars for several decades. I am now looking for a compact automatic SUV-type car (no AMT) with a high safety rating, easy city handling, and the ability to do weekly road trips of about 200 km. The car should also offer good mileage, and either CNG or petrol automatic is fine. Once or twice a year, I also go on long multi-day road trips. Please suggest a suitable car.
The Skoda Kylaq would be a good option for you. This Skoda car is compact and thus easy to use in the city, while its ride and handling are safe and stable for your occasional highway runs too. It's safe and secured a 5-star rating in the BNCAP tests. The automatic gearbox is a torque converter unit, which is the smoothest type of autobox you can get this side of an EV.The only negative is a cramped rear for tall adults; if this is an issue for you, consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. While the new model is yet to be crash tested, the previous version, on which it is based, had received a strong 4-star safety rating.
