The Mahindra 3XO RevX would be the right choice for you. It's the roomiest of the vehicles on your shortlist and the most spacious for three adults to sit at the back. Boot space isn't great but is manageable. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine is punchy, and you will appreciate the power it offers on your highway and hill drives. Performance is good, though fuel economy entirely depends on your driving style. Drive with enthusiasm and fuel economy will drop quite dramatically. The 3XO also feels tough in its build and will be comfortable over the potholes and bumps that you regularly encounter. It also helps that the 3XO has a five-star NCAP rating. If ease of use is an absolute priority, the Tata Altroz AMT makes sense.

The best replacement for a 2009 Maruti Wagon R will be a 2024 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, for its tall stance, great visibility, ease of driving and affordabilty. For less than Rs 8 lakhs on-road, you should get the top-spec petrol-AMT version. The only downside being, its rear seat isn't wide enough to accommodate three adults.An automatic car with great visibility under Rs 12 lakh on-road with a backseat wide enough for three adults is the Mahindra XUV 3XO RevX M (O) turbo-petrol-automatic. The Mahindra XEV 9e is the best electric vehicle for your needs at the moment. It offers the best package with good ride quality, great refinement, and a loaded feature set. Alternatively, you could also look at the Mahindra XEV 9S that offers the added flexibility of third-row seats, in case that is something you value. The Tata Harrier EV is the other electric vehicle that you should have in mind. It offers really cushy ride quality at low speeds and excellent performance. The Mahindra BE07 is scheduled to debut in early 2027, but could be on the pricey side and just out of your budget. There is no confirmation on when Skoda will bring the Elroq to India, though it is on the cards for an India launch.

Given that you seem to be able to increase your budget, we would definitely recommend you do so as you are looking for a car for your family of 5 and you yourself are very tall. The compact SUV's would thus not be very comfy whereas the mid-size SUV's would be far better in this regard. Your choice of the Kia Seltos is a very good one, there's more space in the new Seltos and this Kia car is a very good all-rounder delivering a good ride, decent performance and enough space for you and your family. You would miss a few features compared to the top variants of the compact SUVs however the added space would go a longer way in keeping you all happy and comfortable.

Both models are good in their own meaning. However, it is the Kia Seltos that we'd recommend for your usage. It's built on a newer and superior platform that delivers a more refined experience with better noise insulation. Ride comfort is also better on the Seltos and there is ample space for five members of the family to sit in comfort. Further because it uses a new electronic architecture, it gets the latest software and hardware, including wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which is missing on the Carens Clavis. There is also some comfort in knowing that the new Kia Seltos is a five-star Bharat NCAP-rated car. The 160hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and 7-speed dual-clutch transmission are common to the two so performance-wise there is not going to be much difference.The Carens Clavis makes more sense if you have a genuine need for a third row of seats or if you will be carrying more luggage. With the third row folded, the Clavis is more accommodating than the Seltos.
