Tata Tiago
The Tiago is Tata Motors’ smart and likeable city hatchback. What makes it more likeable still is its competitive pricing. 2020's update brings in refreshed styling and a BS6-spec petrol engine that is available with manual and AMT gearbox options. The Tata Tiago diesel has been discontinued. Impressively, the Tiago has been rated 4 stars by Global NCAP on adult occupant protection.

Tata Tiago Quick Review
The Tiago looks chic and is rather nice on the inside, as well. The cabin is well-laid-out and also looks relatively upmarket with elements like textured plastics on the dash and a knitted roof-lining doing much to improve the ambience. Drivers will like the view out while passengers at the rear will be happy with the space and comfort on offer.
Tata has also worked on the engines since the Tiago's launch and they do feel much better calibrated today. The 85hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine can get thrummy but performance is more than adequate and its drive modes further help fine-tune the experience. The petrol-AMT works well for the most part but shifts are not always smooth or timely. A light steering makes the Tiago easy to steer and while set to the firmer side, the suspension delivers good ride quality on the whole.

Tata Tiago Variants: Our Choice
With three engine-gearbox options and multiple trims, there are lots of versions of the Tiago to choose from. The diesel-manual Tiago is decent but the substantial price difference to the petrols make it the right choice only for buyers with high monthly running. The AMT auto, on the other hand, makes for the most city-friendly version of the Tiago.
Petrol-manual or petrol-auto, the Tiago feels its premium best in XZ+ trim. Part of the XZ+’s kit are attractive alloy wheels, auto climate control and a 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto. And all at a reasonable price.
