I want to buy a new car and have shortlisted the Tata Tiago CNG AMT and the Hyundai Exter CNG Manual. My primary requirements are fuel efficiency and driving comfort. I also considered the Tata Tiago EV, but I am somewhat apprehensive about buying an EV due to range anxiety and the relatively limited driving range. I do not have the budget for higher-range EVs. My usage will be predominantly in the city, with an expected daily running of around 30-40 km. I would appreciate your suggestions on which option would be the better choice for my needs.

autocar.india
If you can arrange for home charging, the Tiago EV is an excellent pick. It is very user-friendly, and its driving dynamics are very sorted. Expect around 200km on a single charge with the 24kWh battery version, and around 150-160km with the smaller battery version, so with 30-40km daily usage, you will barely need to charge the vehicle twice or thrice a week. However, in the absence of home charging, we'd recommend you to opt for the Exter instead, simply for its smoother and refined engine, lighter controls, and higher seating. Sure, the Tiago CNG is likely to be more efficient, but the Exter CNG doesn't fall behind. Expect the Exter CNG to return around 22km/kg in the city and 30km/kg on the highway.

I am planning to upgrade from my Tata Tiago and am considering the Maruti Suzuki Brezza (2026) and the new Kia Seltos. My key requirements are good fuel efficiency, affordable service and maintenance, and comfort for city driving. My usage will mainly be city driving in Navi Mumbai, around 75 km per day, three times a week. Could you please suggest which would be a better fit for my needs? Also, let me know if there are any better alternatives I should consider.

autocar.india
Consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi automatic for your Navi Mumbai city use, it will be easier to live with, use less fuel than a Kia Seltos, and keep service costs lower. Coming from a Tata Tiago, you will like the higher seat and wide view out, the light steering, and the 6-speed automatic is a torque convertor unit. It is the smoothest type around, which will make stop-go traffic far less tiring. The Brezza’s suspension handles speed breakers and rough patches very well at low city speed and the ride is nice and plush. Maruti’s service network is huge with quick turnarounds and easy-on-the-pocket parts. It is also shorter and easier to park than a Seltos, which matters in tight city spots. One thing to consider, the Brezza is not as quick on highways as the Seltos, and its cabin does not feel as rich. In all other aspects, though, the Brezza will do well.

Hi Autocar, I need your valuable opinion on purchasing a new car. My priorities are: safety, a comfortable ride (50% on highways and city roads and 50% on village roads), and a budget of around ₹5-6 lakh. Fuel efficiency is also important, as my daily run is 100 km.

autocar.india
For your requirement of safety, comfort on mixed roads and very high daily running of 100 km, we would suggest going for the Tata Tiago iCNG.The Tiago is a good fit because it offers a comfortable ride over bad village roads, along with a stable feel on highways. It is also a safe and well-built car for its price, which aligns with your priority.More importantly, with your kind of usage, running cost becomes critical, and this is where the CNG version makes a big difference. Compared to petrol, CNG will be significantly more economical, which will save you a lot of money over time, given your daily 100 km usage. In your budget, you can go for the base XE variant.

Hi team, I am planning to buy a new car and the Wagon R CNG is on my mind. Because of travelling for the job and personal work, I am focused on mileage. The Wagon R CNG also fits my budget of ₹6.5 lakh, and I do not wish to spend more, although I can stretch my budget to ₹8 lakh. However, my family does not like the Wagon R CNG and wants me to consider the Fronx or other options. Kindly suggest.

autocar.india
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG is a practical choice. However, if your family wants a different car, you can consider the Tata Tiago CNG XT MT. It will cost less than 8 lakhs on road and will still give you the benefit of CNG, and offers more equipment than the Wagon R. Fronx is not recommended, as in the budget, you will have to pick the base variant. It will not have many of the features which add to the convenience. Another, more practical option is to explore the second-hand market. This opens up access to a wider range of cars within your budget. With online platforms like Spinny, etc., the pre-owned buying process is now pretty transparent than earlier.

Sir, I am planning to buy a new automatic car for my sister. The priorities are budget-friendliness, safety, good mileage, and ease of driving, as she is a new driver. The budget is ₹7 to 7.5 lakh. I am considering the Tata Tiago, but am open to other suggestions. Please advise.

autocar.india
Given that your sister is a new driver, we'd recommend a car with an elevated seating position that would give greater visibility. While the Tata Tiago is good, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is a better option for your sister. This Maruti car has a superior engine and smoother AMT gearbox than the Tiago, and is generally better to drive. You should try to get the Ignis 1.2 AMT Zeta, which, with some bargaining, will fit within your budget.

Please suggest a good CNG car with an AMT automatic gearbox within a budget of Rs 15 to 17 lakh, along with reasonable fuel efficiency.

autocar.india
Since you want a CNG-AMT car, your options are limited. Currently, only three models in our market come with a CNG-AMT automatic powertrain - the Tata Tiago hatchback, the Tata Tigor compact sedan and the Nissan Magnite compact SUV. All fall within your budget, so choose depending on which body style you prefer. The Tata Tiago CNG AMT price starts at Rs 7.23 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.10 lakh, while the Tigor CNG AMT is priced from Rs 8.19 lakh up to Rs 8.74 lakh. Nissan Magnite CNG AMT prices range from Rs 6.89 lakh to Rs 9.70 lakh (ex-showroom).

I commute approximately 90 km daily, primarily on city and outer roads, and prefer a CNG vehicle with an automatic transmission for better fuel efficiency. Could you recommend a reliable and low-maintenance car that suits my daily driving needs?

autocar.india
The only CNG-automatic options currently available in the market are the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor. The Tata Tiago, a hatchback, is priced from ₹4.57 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Tata Tigor, a compact sedan, ranges between ₹5.48 lakh and ₹8.73 lakh (ex-showroom). Choose the body style that best suits your needs.

Tata Tiago FAQs
During our time testing the Tata Tiago CNG equipped with the AMT gearbox, it returned an average of 33.33km/kg. With twin 30-litre tanks, this comes out to expected range of over 320km. With a claimed ARAI mileage of 17.63kpl, the Renault Kiger CVT is less frugal than the Hyundai Venue DCT. However, when compared to the turbo-manual variant of the Venue, the Kiger turbo-manual is more fuel efficient.
