Purely as a sensible, practical option, it is hard to beat the Clavis' proposition.Alternatively, Syros is an excellent, well-packaged car that's surprisingly spacious despite its sub-4-metre footprint. While its design isn't universally appealing, if you don't mind its styling, this is an excellent choice. You will get a well-equipped HTK+ turbo-petrol manual version.The Seltos and Tekton belong to a segment above and are larger cars. Only their entry-level variants will fall within your Rs 13 lakh budget. So you need to decide whether you need a seven-seater, a well-equipped sub-4-meter car, or an entry-level five-seater mid-size SUV from a segment above.

Pick the Hyundai Creta diesel. For your mix of long highway runs and city duty, it gives the most complete package right now - a strong diesel engine for easy cruising on the highway, light controls for city driving, good mileage, and a big boot that fits in more than the Hyryder strong-hybrid. On the highway, the diesel’s easy torque makes overtaking simple and relaxed, and it rides comfortably too. In the city, the light steering and the torque converter automatic work smoothly, so it never feels tiring to drive.The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is the best for city use if you choose the strong-hybrid, but you get less boot space, and it feels a bit strained when loaded at highway speeds. Buying a new car should be an exciting experience, and if the ownership journey has started on the wrong note, there's little reason to rush into it.By the time you're ready to buy again, you'll have more options to consider. The Honda Elevate facelift is expected to arrive soon, while the recently launched Nissan Tekton also looks promising. Diwali is traditionally a period when manufacturers and dealers offer attractive discounts and schemes, so you may be able to offset some or even all of the recent price increase.

The Tata Sierra EV has already been launched, while the Renault Duster Hybrid and Nissan Tekton are still some time away. The Duster Hybrid is expected to offer an excellent balance of performance, efficiency and practicality, but you'll have to wait longer for it.The choice really comes down to whether you're ready to make the switch to an EV. If you have access to reliable home charging and your driving pattern suits an EV, the Sierra EV is a very compelling option. It offers a spacious cabin, a premium interior, and a large battery pack, and should make for an excellent family SUV.Verdict: Since you've mentioned that you prefer to buy the earliest available car, we'd recommend going ahead with the Tata Sierra EV. It is already on sale, and if an EV fits your usage pattern, there's little reason to wait for the Duster Hybrid.

Pick the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel automatic. The steering still feels natural, the ride stays calm at speed, and the 2.2 diesel has effortless shove for quick highway passes while returning impressive mileage. Sure, being much larger in size, it might not feel as agile or as convenient to drive as your Figo, but that's something you will have to get used to.Alternatively, you could consider the Honda City hybrid too. It is a very efficient sedan which recently got a mid-life makeover and some new features. Yes, the City is expensive, but it is the only hybrid sedan on this side of Rs 30 lakh.If you're not in a hurry to buy, the strong-hybrid versions of the Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton could be worth waiting for.

The next-gen Tata Nexon is still on the drawing board and is unlikely to be launched in 2026. At best, the Nexon could see some refreshes next year. The Nissan Tekton is due in Feb 2026, and it is worth waiting. But it is unlikely to come with a DCT and will instead get a torque converter (AT) automatic, which, in our view, is more suitable for Indian conditions. We are not sure about the list of features for the Tekton, but it is likely to be well-equipped and will include most of the features on your list.

The Nissan Terrano is essentially a rebadged Renault Duster, and both models are now quite old. If you are happy with the car and its performance, you can consider upgrading to a new one. However, the Renault Duster will be making a return next month, and Nissan will also have its own version, which it calls the 'Tekton'. We would recommend you wait to see those SUVs and then plan your new purchase.

The new Nissan Tekton is expected to launch in India around June 2026. It will be Nissan’s version of the upcoming Renault Duster. If the old Terrano and Duster are anything to go by, this will be an exciting addition to an already fiercely competitive segment. We expect the new Nissan Tekton price to fall between ₹11 lakh and ₹19 lakh (ex-showroom).
