Maserati GranTurismo expert review
We like
Identical seating position in ICE and EV
Comfortable and premium interiors
Trofeo and Folgore are brilliantly quick
We don't like
Engine sounds gruff at low revs
Ride not compliant enough for a GT
Despite the resemblance to the original, the new GT is noticeably updated. The headlights are vertical, inspired by the MC20, and the bonnet integrates the fenders for a sleek look. The Folgore retains a grille, skipping the blanked-off EV look. From the side, the GT maintains a classic grand tourer silhouette, with illuminated fender vents on the Folgore. Its long bonnet hides a front-mid mounted engine for better balance (52:48 weight distribution). At the rear, clean lines, sleek tail-lights, and EV-specific cues like a charging flap complete the design.
9
Inside, the GT is all-new. Three digital displays replace the analogue setup, though the HVAC and clock would have been better in analogue. The cabin feels rich, using recycled materials. However, some switchgear feels low-rent. The drive selector and gear lever are absent on both cars and instead have buttons on the dash which do not feel engaging. Seating is spacious and comfortable, with good headroom even for a low-slung car. The Folgore’s boot space drops from 310 to 270 litres due to dual rear motors, and there’s no front trunk.
8
The 3.0L twin-turbo V6 comes in 490hp (Modena) and 550hp (Trofeo) variants. The Trofeo hits 100kph in 3.5 seconds and sounds throaty, though not as rich as the old V8. The Folgore, with 1,200hp from three electric motors, delivers only 761hp due to battery limits. Still, 0-100kph takes just 2.7 seconds—blistering for a GT. Artificial sound is present though.
8
The Folgore’s claimed 450km range is modest, though fast charging gives 100km in 5 minutes.
6
While fast and grippy, the ride is firm over poor roads, which is disappointing for a GT. The handling, however, is excellent, aided by AWD and near-perfect weight balance. The Folgore's regenerative and friction braking struggle slightly under heavy loads.
7
Highlights include electric door releases, HUD, a digital rearview mirror, connected tech, and voice assistant.
8
With prices expected between ₹2.5–2.9 crore, the GT isn't cheap. But it delivers on looks, performance, and modern tech, making it a compelling luxury-sport blend.
