8.0
The Jetour T2 follows the classic rugged SUV formula with a flat bonnet, upright stance, chunky tyres, body cladding and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Its Defender-like silhouette still gives it a distinctive identity, while the clean bodywork and 20-inch wheels add plenty of road presence. JSW is expected to make changes to the grille, headlamps and bumpers for the Combat, but the overall design should remain similar. Ground clearance is an impressive 201mm in laden condition, although the India-spec version will be front-wheel drive.
8.0
The T2’s cabin feels solid and spacious, with upright windows, a panoramic sunroof and a dashboard pushed far forward. Material quality is generally impressive, while the front seats offer good support. The rear bench is wide enough for three adults and the flat floor adds to practicality. The 580-litre boot is cavernous, with useful storage touches and a side-hinged tailgate.
However, the lack of lumbar adjustment, reflective gear selector and dashboard, and ineffective seat ventilation are minor drawbacks. The air-conditioning also struggled to cool the large cabin quickly in hot conditions.
8.0
The India-spec T2 will use a plug-in hybrid setup with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, two electric motors and an 18.4kWh battery, with power sent to the front wheels. The China-spec version tested here uses three motors and a larger 43.24kWh battery, producing 462hp and 700Nm.
The powertrain feels smooth and effortless, with EV and hybrid modes offering relaxed yet strong performance. In testing, the China-spec T2 completed 0-100kph in 6.35sec. However, the throttle response in Normal and Sport modes can feel too aggressive, while Eco mode offers a more natural calibration. Regenerative braking is well judged, and the transition between regenerative and friction braking is almost imperceptible.
6.0
The T2 prioritises comfort, with high-profile tyres doing a good job of absorbing smaller imperfections. However, the suspension can bounce over speed breakers and undulations, while the ride feels less settled at higher speeds. The tall body also exhibits noticeable roll through quick corners, and the light, disconnected steering encourages a more relaxed driving style.
Despite this, the T2 remains easy to drive, with good visibility, three steering-weight settings and a smooth hybrid powertrain.
8
The T2 has the ingredients to make a strong entry for JSW in India, with rugged styling, a spacious cabin, strong equipment levels and the added appeal of plug-in hybrid technology. Its smooth powertrain and strong performance further add to its appeal.
However, the touchscreen experience, throttle calibration, air-conditioning and ride and handling still need some refinement for Indian conditions. Its success will ultimately depend not just on aggressive pricing but also on JSW delivering a reliable ownership and service experience.

Questions you may find useful
I just found out JSW is actually launching a car in india called the Combat. It's a rebadged Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid, apparently doing over 1200km combined range.
I own a 2018 Hyundai Creta 1.6 diesel manual and have been very happy with it. It suits my family of three for city use as well as long road trips, including journeys from Kashmir to Kerala and Jaisalmer. However, I now want to upgrade to something bigger. I don't like the looks of the Toyota Innova HyCross, Mahindra XUV 7XO or Tata Safari. I also have reservations about ladder-frame SUVs I test-drove the Mahindra Scorpio N briefly in traffic and found it moved around more over bad roads than my monocoque Creta. I want something imposing, like the Toyota Fortuner, but am unsure about moving to a ladder-frame SUV. Should I wait for the JSW Combat, which will have monocoque construction, or would that be a risk in terms of reliability? Please advise.
The Kia Sorento seems to be an ideal fit for you. It is a feature-loaded offering with hybrid and diesel engine options, and it comes with the flexibility of three rows of seats. Being a monocoque, ride quality is good, the engines are smooth and refined, and its cabin feels richly appointed. The JSW Combat is set to make its debut in India in December. It is a butch-looking plug-in hybrid, five-seater SUV, and is likely to be stuffed with features. You will have to wait to find out how it drives and performs, but on first impressions at least, it seems like a promising option. The Toyota Fortuner is the obvious choice if you want a butch, imposing SUV with proven reliability and a strong ownership track record. It is a proper ladder-frame SUV with excellent road presence, and Toyota's reliability is a major advantage for long-term ownership. The downside is that it is expensive for what it offers, and the ride is not as composed as a monocoque SUV.
I drive Kodiaq L&K (2020 model, diesel). I want to sell it and buy another SUV that may not be a 7-seater. My budget is approximately the same. What are my best options? My annual running is approximately 18,000km.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO Diesel AT is the most sensible recommendation. It delivers strong performance, excellent highway manners and overall, it's a refined, sophisticated drive experience. The diesel engine is well suited to your running, and the car loaded with technology and features. If you're open to EVs, you could consider the BYD Sealion 7 Dynamic variant is a solid option at around Rs 45 lakh (on-road). The XEV 9S or XEV 9E are excellent options around Rs 30-35 lakh.JSW will be launching the Chery Jetour T2 based SUV which will be launched in India as JSW Motors Combat based SUV in December. It will be a 5-seater, front-wheel drive plug-in hybrid SUV that's rugged, refined, spacious and is likely to be well-equipped too. If you aren't in a hurry, we'd recommend waiting for this one.Other petrol-powered SUVs in that price range include the Tayron and Kodiaq. But given your 18,000km annual usage, fuel bills will be high by opting for these.
I have a 2024 XUV700 AT petrol. I want to upgrade it. I want an SUV with a turbocharger and, if possible, a hybrid, with a budget of max Rs 37 lakh. Pls suggest one.
Wait for the upcoming JSW Jetour T2-based SUV. If your priority is specifically a turbo-petrol hybrid, this is the most interesting option to wait for. JSW is expected to bring the Jetour T2 to India as a locally assembled plug-in hybrid, using a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with electric motors. It is expected around late 2026/early 2027, and we expect JSW to price it at around Rs 35-40 lakh ex-showroom price bracket. If you want to buy right now, the choices become more limited because most hybrids in this price range use naturally aspirated petrol engines. The Toyota Innova HyCross is the obvious option if you want a proven hybrid and maximum practicality, although it won't give you the turbo-petrol character you're looking for.The newly launched MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV is another interesting option. It uses a plug-in hybrid system with a 20.5kWh battery and offers over 115km of claimed electric range.
Does a plug-in hybrid combine an ICE and an EV? Can it run on the ICE for long journeys and as an EV for local driving? Which cars are available in this segment?
Yes, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is exactly that - a combination of an internal combustion engine (ICE) and an electric motor with a battery that can be charged from an external source. The idea is that you can use the electric-only mode for short local trips, and then the car seamlessly switches to the petrol engine for longer journeys, so you never have to worry about range. In India, however, the options are quite limited. You have the Mercedes S 450e at the top end as the only plug-in hybrid available at the moment. However, JSW MG is launching the MG Hector Tomahawk later this week, a plug-in hybrid, and next year you will get a Jetour T2-based SUV from JSW, also a plug-in hybrid. Other than these, there are no PHEV options for now.
