Jsw Motors Cars in India (2)
JSW Motor is set to enter the Indian passenger vehicle market before Diwali 2026. As of now, there are no JSW cars on sale in India, and the brand’s debut will begin with a single SUV. The first JSW car will be based on the Jetour T2, a rugged, boxy SUV that will be locally assembled and sold under a JSW badge, independent of the JSW-MG Motor India partnership.
In line with its SUV positioning, the T2 is expected to offer a rotary drive mode selector with off-road-focused modes. JSW is likely to finalize the feature list closer to launch, depending on localization levels and market positioning. Pricing-wise, JSW has officially stated that its first car will be positioned in the ₹15 lakh to ₹30 lakh range.
The T2 is sourced from Jetour, an SUV-focused brand launched in 2018 by Chinese automaker Chery. Jetour operates across China and multiple global markets, like the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America, with a portfolio centred primarily on SUVs.

•2wRegarding the JSW Jetour T2 PHEV (380 hp variant), when the battery charge level drops to around 20%, how much power and torque does the vehicle deliver in real-world conditions? Please clarify.

Autocar India
There isn’t an official power or torque figure published for the JSW Jetour T2 PHEV (380 hp) at 20% battery, and this model is not officially on sale in India right now, so data here is limited. What you can expect in the real world is this: The headline 380 hp is the combined output when the engine and the electric motor work together with a healthy battery. At around 20% charge, most plug-in hybrids keep a small reserve so the motor can still help with quick starts and short bursts. But the car will not hold peak power for long. In steady driving or repeated hard pulls, output will feel much closer to the engine’s own power, and torque will drop as the motor’s boost is reduced. So, for a ballpark, look up the engine-only power and torque in the brochure - that is roughly what you’ll get once the battery is low, with a brief extra shove from the motor when you press hard.

•2wWhat is the expected price of the upcoming JSW SUV based on the Jetour T2?

Autocar India
The Chery-based Jetour T2 will be the first product from JSW Auto, and it is expected sometime before the festive season this year. JSW is planning to launch the Jetour T2 with a fairly high spec, so it won't be cheap and is expected to cost around Rs 38-40 lakh. For that money, you get a 380hp plug-in hybrid variant with around 610 Nm of torque. It is larger than both the Mahindra XUV 7XO and the Tata Harrier/Safari in most dimensions and boasts a 580-litre boot. So if you are looking at the Jetour T2, you need to put aside a budget of Rs. 40 lakh

•3wHi, I would like to know whether JSW will sell the Jetour T2 through existing MG dealerships, or will they wait to launch it after setting up a dedicated dealer network. I am keen to buy it early and am willing to wait for the launch.

Autocar India
JSW Auto will begin selling the Jetour T2 through its own dealerships, not via MG showrooms. The company is aggressively setting up a dedicated dealer network and aims to have it ready in time for the Jetour T2’s launch. It is expected sometime between September and November this year. Also, keep in mind that, although this SUV is known globally as the Jetour T2 and will be JSW Auto’s first product here, it will not be sold under the Jetour name in India. It will carry a different market name and wear a JSW badge when it goes on sale.

•3wI am looking for a 7-seater car with a lower running cost. I think Mahindra XEV 9S is satisfying the need. Can I purchase it, or should I wait so that Plugin Hybrid EVs or Safari EV might be launched? Need your advice. Thanks.

Autocar India
The Mahindra XEV 9S is currently one of the most complete 7‑seater EVs you can actually buy, and if it fits your budget and usage, you don’t need to overthink it. It’s built on Mahindra’s new INGLO EV architecture (shared with the XEV 9E), offers multiple battery options, genuinely low running costs, proper three‑row space and a decent boot with the third row down. The sliding second row gives you useful flexibility to balance legroom between the second and third rows. The suspension is tuned on the softer side, which makes it very comfortable in the city, even if it can feel a bit floaty at higher highway speeds. If you have reliable home charging and your running is mostly city with the occasional highway trip, the XEV 9S is already a very sensible future‑proof pick. Real-world ranges of over 420km on the larger batteries mean that you are not going to be range‑anxious on typical family runs.JSW Motors’ first plug‑in hybrid SUV and the Tata Safari EV are both interesting, but they are still some distance away. JSW’s PHEV, based on the Jetour T2, is only expected towards the end of 2026, and will likely be priced much higher and positioned more upmarket. The Safari EV is also targeting a late‑2026 launch window, and real‑world pricing, range and third‑row comfort are still unknowns. So, unless you specifically want to wait for 6-8 months for more options and are okay with higher likely prices, the XEV 9S is a safe and sensible choice today, especially if low running cost is your top priority.

•5wI am considering buying an SUV car, and my critical criteria are: 1) Performance, 2) Safety and 3) Boot space. A few options I was considering are: Tata Safari and Mahindra 7XO, but then I came across the upcoming SUV from JSW, the Jetour T2. I need advice on whether it is worth waiting for the Jetour by the end of this year.

Autocar India
Go for the Tata Safari Accomplished+ diesel automatic. It best matches your performance, safety and boot-space needs today, with a strong 170 PS/350 Nm motor and a 5-star crash rating. For performance, the 170 PS/350 Nm diesel pulls cleanly from low revs, so highway overtakes feel easy even with 5–7 people on board. For safety, the new-gen Safari has a 5-star Global NCAP rating (2023), which gives more confidence than an untested newcomer. For boot space, with the third row folded, you get over 400 litres, enough for 4 medium bags. The wide opening also makes loading simpler. On waiting for the Jetour T2, there’s 0 India crash-test ratings published, no confirmed service footprint, and the launch/price by year-end isn’t firm, so you’d be betting on unknowns. The one thing you give up is a petrol option; the Safari is diesel-only, so if you want a high-rev turbo-petrol feel, this won’t suit.If outright acceleration becomes your top priority or you prefer petrol, consider the Mahindra XUV 7X0 AX7 petrol AT instead. Its 200 PS motor does 0-100 kph in under ~10 seconds. When you test drive, do a brisk 80-0 kph stop to judge brake bite and stability, and ask the dealer to fold the third row and load two 28-inch suitcases to verify real boot depth and loading height.

•8wHello, currently I am using a Nexon and wish to upgrade my car within a price range of up to ₹35 lakh. Driving comfort is my top priority, and my usage will be around 70% city and 30% highway, with an average of 30km per day. My personal choices are, looks-wise, the Harrier (new petrol), and engine-wise, the XUV 7XO. Are there any other options in this price range, or should I wait for any new releases like JSW’s rumoured cars?

Autocar India
The Tata Harrier's road presence is impressive, and its 1.5-turbo-petrol engine is surprisingly powerful too. If you're in the market for one, it is a capable, well-rounded car. However, as you rightly mentioned, the Mahindra XUV 7XO's larger 2.0-litre turbo-petrol has an edge in terms of performance, smoothness and refinement. It also has an edge in terms of ride comfort, and its lighter steering makes it easier to drive in the city, too.JSW is likely to introduce its version of the Jetour T2 i-DM (plug-in hybrid) in the latter half of 2026, so you could wait for that if you'd like. That aside, there aren't any more new options expected in that price range.
