Trending Questions on BMW Cars - Answered by Autocar Experts
I am planning to buy a car within a budget of 90 lakhs and am choosing between the Mercedes E 200 and the BMW 530Li LWB. The E-Class has a feature-rich backseat, but it is not as comfortable as the 5 Series on bad roads. Sometimes I have a driver, and sometimes I drive the car myself. The car will run about 15,000 km per year, with 70% on local bad roads and 30% on the highway. The car is for my father, who prefers Mercedes for its brand value, but I personally like the BMW more despite it having fewer features. I need a suggestion.
The two long-wheelbase luxury limousines are closely matched. Unlike previous iterations of the BMW 5 Series that created more of an emotional connection, this new G68 long-wheelbase model is actually the more rational choice, even compared to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
It's got (slightly) more space in the rear seat, better ground clearance and, as you've pointed out, more comfortable ride quality. Yet it also remains the better of the two to drive, thanks to a more powerful four-cylinder petrol engine and sharper dynamics.
However, despite all this, the E-Class remains the superior choice, if only slightly. That's because where it lags behind the 5, it does so by the smallest of margins.
And where it excels, it goes far ahead. More than brand value, it's the sense of luxury in the E-Class that's far greater. Especially in the rear seat with power-reclining seat backs, softer seats and powered window blinds (a sore miss on the BMW).
As the car is for your father, and presuming he is primarily chauffeur-driven, this will prove far more appealing. And for the times when you have to drive, the E-Class is no slouch either.
I am confused between the BMW 320d and the Audi A6. Please help me choose one. My monthly commute will be 500-800 km.
I want to buy a premium 5- or 7-seater, and my budget is around 50 lakhs. I am open to both EVs and ICE vehicles. Though I have thoroughly considered the BYD Sealion 7 as one of the best picks, I would love to know what other premium cars I could get at this price.
Hello Autocar India, I want to buy the most powerful diesel SUV in India. My budget is between โน1 crore and โน1.5 crore, with about 50 % city and 50 % highway usage. Iโm confused between the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450d and the BMW X5 - which one should I choose?
Firstly, there is no Mercedes GLE 450d variant. There is a diesel 400d, but the variant you must be meaning is the Mercedes GLE 450 4MATIC petrol, which compares with the BMW X5 xDrive40i petrol.
Both the Mercedes-Benz GLE450 and the BMW X5 are very closely matched in power, using 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engines with 48V mild-hybrid systems. The GLE 450 4MATIC produces 375-380hp whilst the BMW X5 xDrive40i produces a near identical 375-380hp. Top of Form
The BMW X5 has slightly higher torque at 520Nm to the GLE 450โs 500Nm, which contributes to a more sporty feel.
In fact, the BMW X5 is known for a more sporty, engaging driving character, with quicker acceleration. Whilst the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 delivers power in a very linear, smooth manner, prioritising comfort and luxury.
Please suggest a luxury electric car within a budget of Rs 1 crore.
I am looking to buy an SUV to drive myself on the weekends but I am confused between BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS and Range Rover Sport
While the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X7 are spacious, practical and big on road presence, since you will just be driving yourself on weekends, their added size holds no value and simply makes them more cumbersome. As such, we'd recommend the Range Rover Sport, which has the added benefit of greater snob value than the Merc or BMW. Both its straight-six engines - petrol and diesel - are powerful and refined; in fact, they sound really nice.
And though this is a big car for a five-seater, it's reasonably fun to drive. Additionally, consider the Porsche Cayenne, which, though not quite as big and imposing as the Range Rover, is even more fun to drive.
Hi Autocar, this might be a long shot. Iโm working as an Associate Director on an upcoming Tamil filmโa much-awaited pan-India project with a multi-star cast. Weโre looking to feature a supercar in the film and would love guidance on connecting with supercar owners, clubs, or brands that might be open to collaborating on a shoot. Would you be able to suggest any supercar clubs, owner groups, or manufacturers who could help us feature a car? Any advice or leads would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
In general, supercar owners would be reluctant to give their cars away as they would be worried about how their precious cars would be used.
Also, supercar owners are very wealthy in their own right and unlikely to be enticed with a shooting fee for their car. Your best bet would be to contact supercar dealers in your area who may have some stock in hand, and they may be willing to rent the car to you before it gets sold on.
Which one would you suggest between the BMW 330Li, Mercedes-Benz C300 and Audi A6? I want a performance-oriented and fun-to-drive car. Rear seat space is not a priority as the car will not be chauffeur-driven, though the family will sit behind on highway drives. I am not considering the M340i due to its lack of practicality. Based on test drives, 330Li is preferred currently. Please advise.
I want to buy a new car with a budget of โน62 to 63 lakh. I am confused between the BMW 3 Series LWB and the Mercedes-Benz C 220d. My monthly running will be around 700-800km, mostly on highways.
I want to buy a Porsche GT3. I have not driven a sports car before, and I currently drive a Jeep Compass. How can I gradually move into the sports car segment?
