Nissan Tekton scores 5 stars in Bharat NCAP crash tests

The Tekton is Nissan's version of the Renault Duster, which has also received 5 stars from BNCAP.

Like the Renault Duster, its badge-engineered sibling, the Nissan Tekton has secured a full 5-star safety rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) crash tests. The Nissan SUV scored 30.49 out of 32 points in adult occupant protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 points in child occupant protection (COP) tests, matching the Duster's scores exactly. The safety rating applies across the entire Tekton range.

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Tekton scored 14.49 out of a maximum of 16 points. It also received a 'Good' rating for protection offered to the driver's head, neck, pelvis and thighs, while protection for the driver's chest, tibia and feet was rated as 'Adequate'.

For the front co-driver, the Tekton received a 'Good' protection rating, including for the chest and lower-leg regions. It scored the maximum 16 points in the side-movable deformable barrier test, while earning an 'OK' rating in the side-pole-impact test.

Coming to child occupant protection, the SUV was tested using rearward-facing dummies, representing 18-month-old and 3-year-old children. It scored the maximum 24 points for both age groups in the frontal and side protection dynamic tests.

The Tekton's child restraint system (CRS) also received the maximum 12 points. However, its vehicle assessment score stood at 9 out of 13 points, taking its overall child occupant protection score to 45 out of a maximum of 49 points.

Nissan Tekton safety features

The Tekton comes with standard safety features such as six airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system and three-point seatbelts for all occupants. The top-spec Tekna+ trim comes equipped with a Level 2 ADAS suite, which includes features such as adaptive cruise control, collision detection with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and blind-spot detection, among others.

The Nissan Tekton is priced from Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 18.59 lakh, ex-showroom. In addition to the Duster, it competes with other midsize SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, Tata Sierra, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.

The Tekton is being offered in six trims: Visia, Visia+, Acenta, N-Connecta, Tekna, and Tekna+, with a choice between a 1.0L or a 1.3L turbo-petrol engine.
