Mahindra Scorpio N price & variants

The Scorpio N price starts at 13.69 lakh for the Z2 Petrol MT and goes up to 25.49 lakh for the Z8L ADAS Diesel 4WD AT, both ex-showroom. There are 31 variants in all, across seven trims. You can pick a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol or a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, each with a manual or automatic gearbox, and either two-wheel or four-wheel drive.

  • The petrol manual is the sportier choice. We timed it at 10.83 seconds to 100kph, and it avoids the diesel's higher running costs.
  • The diesel automatic is better if you often carry a full load or drive long distances, as it pulls harder and feels more relaxed.
  • Mid variants cost less than the older Scorpio Classic and come with more features, as we found in our comparison review.
  • Be ready for a long wait, as delivery times are long.
  • EMIs for the Z2 Petrol MT start from 23,329 a month.

Exterior Design And Engineering

8

The Scorpio N retains its tall, upright SUV stance with a long bonnet and two-box shape that screams ‘Scorpio’, but it’s now smoother and more premium-looking. Slimmer full-LED headlamps, a 3D-effect grille, and LED fog lamps shaped like a scorpion’s sting modernise the front. The plastic cladding is toned down to a thin black strip, and design flourishes like the chrome strip above the rear wheel arch add flair. The 18-inch wheels look rugged yet stylish, and while the SUV has grown significantly in size, the rear design feels flat and a bit nondescript, with Volvo-esque tail-lamps and minimal detailing.

Interior Space And Comfort

7

Inside, quality has taken a big leap. Materials feel premium, with brown faux leather, soft plastics, and well-damped switchgear. The upright dashboard suits the SUV’s tough image, and the driving position is now more relaxed and comfortable. You can opt for captain’s seats or a bench in the second row; the former offers better access to the third row. Middle-row space is ample, with USB-C ports and AC vents, but the third row, while safer with front-facing seats, is tight on knee room and lacks basic amenities. Boot space with all rows up is minimal, though Mahindra has now added a false floor to improve usability.

Performance And Refinement

8

Both engines — a 203hp turbo-petrol and a 175hp turbo-diesel — are paired with 6-speed torque-converter automatics. The petrol is punchy but a bit jerky at low speeds, while the diesel suits the SUV better with smoother, more relaxed power delivery. Drive modes are available on the diesel, and performance is strong despite the SUV’s weight.

Mileage / Range And Efficiency

7

In real-world tests, the petrol auto returned 7.9kpl in the city and 9.4kpl on the highway, while the diesel auto managed 8.6kpl and 11.7kpl respectively — expected figures for a heavy ladder-frame SUV.

Ride Comfort And Handling

7

The Scorpio N feels far more refined now, with lighter construction, a stiffer frame, and modern suspension. Ride quality is better, handling is more composed, and off-road capability is strong thanks to the 4Xplor system with terrain modes and a low-range gearbox.

Features And Safety

8

An 8-inch touchscreen running AdrenoX software is the highlight, offering wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, connected tech, and Alexa integration. Other features include wireless charging, sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and powered driver’s seat adjustment. Safety is a priority with six airbags, ESC, all-wheel disc brakes, hill assist, TPMS, ISOFIX mounts, and a drowsiness detection system. Camera feeds are included but lack clarity.

Value For Money

8

Priced between Rs 13.99 lakh and Rs 25.15 lakh (ex-showroom), the Scorpio N delivers big on features, comfort, and rugged capability. It retains its iconic identity while evolving into a far more complete SUV — with no real rival in its niche.

Mahindra Scorpio N FAQs

The Scorpio N offers 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options. If you want outright performance and can contend with single-digit mileage, the turbo-petrol is the one to pick.

However, if you frequently go on highway trips and value fuel efficiency, the Scorpio N diesel is the better choice.

4WD is available only with the Scorpio N diesel. If you frequently drive on loose, broken roads or like to go off-roading, you should opt for 4WD.

The third row of the Scorpio N best suited for kids only.

The Scorpio N is built on a ladder-frame chassis, making it a capable off roader. It's among the few mass-market ladder-frame cars still on sale.

Both the Scorpio N and XUV 7XO are three-row SUVs with lots of pricing overlap and identical powertrains. The Scorpio N is more capable off-road, while the XUV 7XO is better for city and highway driving.

I’m confused whether I should choose the Mahindra Scorpio N petrol or the Tata Safari petrol?

Verified
2d

Since your daily driving is mostly in the city, we would recommend the Tata Safari petrol over the Scorpio N petrol. While the Safari is a slightly larger vehicle overall, it is easier to drive than the Scorpio N thanks to its electric power steering and, if you opt for the manual, lighter clutch and gearshift too. The Scorpio N's ladder-frame chassis gives it a toughness that's beneficial on rough roads, but for city use, the downside is that it's nowhere near as comfortable as the monocoque-chassis Safari, whose Omega Arc platform is derived from Land Rover. The Safari is also more spacious, with greater room in the second, and especially the third row. And finally, while the Scorpio N petrol is more powerful with monstrous 203hp from its 2.0-litre engine, it is nowhere near as fuel-efficient as the Safari's 170hp 1.5-litre turbo petrol, which is also more refined and powerful enough. Based on our real-world tests, Mahindra Scorpio N mileage averaged 8.65kpl for the petrol automatic and 10.15kpl for the diesel automatic, while the petrol manual returned 7.3kpl.For your usage, the Safari is the better option. The Tata Safari price starts at Rs 13.40 lakh and goes up to Rs 26.76 lakh (ex-showroom).

I’m now using a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga VDI 2016 shvs and a Honda Jazz i-vtec. I’m planning to sell both the cars and buy a single one. I’m looking for options between 20L to 30L onroad. I’m interested in XUV 7x0, scorpio n, Thar Roxx from Mahindra. But I am little confused about the Service quality of Mahindra.I avoided Innova Crysta as it doesn’t give the value for the amount which I’m paying. Also, my father does not prefer Safari as its third draw is not usable at all. Is there any other alternative for me in this price range?

I'm 34 year business owner Yearly running 25k Often go for a meeting I like ladder frames SUV. Toyota products seems overpriced and not value for money. I like Creta and Kia smoothness but they don't have any excitement and lower seating position. I like Scorpio N but it has a facelift coming. I like Thar Roxx but a bit confused about the image. Will have to have a lite secondary car as well. Kindly suggest.

Hi, I currently own a 2016 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga VDI SHVS and a Honda Jazz i-VTEC. I’m planning to sell both cars and buy a new one. My budget is between Rs. 20 lakh and Rs. 28 lakh (on-road). The cars I’m considering are the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Scorpio N, and Thar Roxx. However, I’m a little concerned about Mahindra’s service quality. I ruled out the Toyota Innova Crysta because I don’t think it offers enough value for the price. My father also does not prefer the Tata Safari, as its third row is not very usable. The Tata Harrier is also on my list, but I’m concerned about Tata’s service quality. My usage is mixed. Is there a better option available in this price range?

Based on your requirements, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is the most sensible choice. It offers a good balance of space, comfort and performance, and is a significant step up from both your Ertiga and Jazz. The Scorpio N is a more rugged, body-on-frame SUV and is better suited to rough roads and occasional off-roading, but it is not as comfortable as the XUV 7XO for everyday use. It is a similar story with the Thar Roxx, which is more of a lifestyle vehicle. The Thar Roxx price starts at 12.52 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)Mahindra service has made significant improvements in recent years, and service quality is now largely dependent on the dealership. It is worth checking the reputation of your local dealer before making a decision. The Toyota Innova Crysta is still the benchmark for reliability and long-term ownership, but it is expensive for what it offers and does not feel as modern or feature-rich as the XUV 7XO. Alternatively, consider the Kia Carens Clavis diesel. The engine is refined, it is premium inside, and the third row is better than the 7XO or Safari, though it lacks their SUV-like appeal. Kia service is also amongst the best in the country. Overall, the XUV 7XO is the best fit for your needs and budget.

Hello Autocar team I have a few questions on the Mahindra Scorpio N In the initial review of the Scorpio N, I had noticed that the 4x4 variants come equipped with a MLD (Mechanical Locking Diff.) for the rear and BLD for the front. Lately in the brochures I have noticed that only BLD is mentioned in variants with 4xplor system. a) So, is the MLD still available in 4xplor system? b) Is the Z4, 4x4 variant equipped with any sort of differential locks? If not, can it be installed as an aftermarket accessory. c) I have also read on Autocar website that the Scorpio N facelift was expected in Feb or Mar 26. Can you throw some light as to when can we expect the facelift. d) Does it make sense to go ahead and book a new Z4 4x4 now, given that I have to do mild off roading in mud and slush on inclines. I also have a request that, in the event of cars having 2 different drive trains not just Petrol/Diesel or Manual/Auto but something like 4xplor and regular 4x4 systems, Autocar reviews all of them comprehensively. Looking forward to hearing from you Best Regards Ajay J
