cars with 6 airbags not standard

Given the unpredictable nature of Indian roads and motorists, safety has become increasingly important to the average car buyer in recent years. Initiatives like Bharat NCAP enable standardised crash-testing and certification, and features such as Level 2 ADAS act as an additional safety net while driving.

The number of airbags has also increased to six in many cars (two for the driver and co-driver, along with two curtain and two side airbags), and that too from the base variant itself. However, while even models such as the humble Maruti Suzuki Eeco and Alto K10 now get six airbags as standard, many still make do with two airbags in their entry-level variants. Listed below is every car currently sold in India without six airbags as standard, ranked in ascending order of price.

1. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso

Price: Rs 3.50 lakh to Rs 5.25 lakh

Driver and co-driver airbags only

Following the price cuts after GST revisions in September 2025, S-Presso has become the most affordable car currently on sale in India, but it remains one of the few Maruti Suzuki models not to be updated with six airbags as standard. Across its entire range, the S-Presso comes equipped with only two airbags.

2. Renault Kwid

Price: Rs 4.30 lakh to Rs 5.88 lakh

Six airbags in top-spec trim only

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

Renault updated the Kiger and Triber with six airbags as standard this year. But the French carmaker’s entry-level model, the Kwid, gets only two airbags as standard, except for its range-topping Climber trim, which starts at Rs 5.47 lakh and bumps the count to six.

3. Citroen C3

Price: Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 9.6 lakh

Six airbags in higher trims

The C3 range received a substantial ‘X’ update in August 2025, but its entry-level Live and Feel trim levels still offer just two airbags. Citroen equips the C3 with six airbags from the Feel(O) trim onwards, which starts at Rs 6.95 lakh.

4. Tata Tigor

Price: Rs 5.55 lakh to Rs 8.84 lakh

Driver and co-driver airbags only

While its hatchback sibling, the Tiago, has been updated with six airbags as standard, the Tigor compact sedan still comes fitted with two airbags across all variants. However, the Tigor also holds a 4-star Global NCAP rating (prior protocol), which inspires some confidence.

5. MG Comet EV

Price: Rs 7.63 lakh to Rs 10 lakh

Driver and co-driver airbags only

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

The Comet is the most affordable EV you can currently buy in India, and it’s available with two airbags across all variants. Contrary to a majority of the cars on this list, the Comet EV is very compact and is a 2-door, which somewhat limits the case for six airbags. However, four airbags could still have been offered in the Comet EV for better protection.

6. Mahindra Bolero

Price: Rs 8 lakh to Rs 9.9 lakh

Driver and co-driver airbags only

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

Despite being updated in 2025, the Mahindra Bolero still doesn’t get six airbags as standard, offering just two airbags irrespective of the variant. This is likely a result of the ladder-frame-based Bolero being rather long in the tooth; the current-gen Bolero launched over a decade ago.

7. Mahindra Bolero Neo / Neo+

Price: Rs 8.85 lakh to Rs 13.09 lakh

Driver and co-driver airbags only

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

Updated alongside the Bolero, the Bolero Neo still comes equipped with only two airbags throughout the range, even though the ladder-frame-based compact SUV is a newer model. The same holds true for its 9-seater derivative, the Bolero Neo+.

8. MG Astor

Price: Rs 9.79 lakh to Rs 15.3 lakh

Six airbags in higher trims

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

The Astor is the only midsize SUV on this list, and its entry-level Sprint and Shine trims come equipped with two airbags. Starting from the Astor Select trim (Rs 12.4 lakh), though, six airbags are standard fit.

9. Mahindra Thar

Price: Rs 10 lakh to Rs 17.63 lakh

Driver and co-driver airbags only

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

Though it received an update very recently, the 3-door Thar continues to be offered with just two airbags. Much like the Comet, the Thar’s body style may make six airbags a bit challenging to install, but there’s still the argument for four.

10. Tata Tigor EV

Price: Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh

Driver and co-driver airbags only

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

The most expensive Tata model on this list is the Tigor EV, which does not get six airbags across its variant line-up. Like its ICE-powered sibling, though, the Tigor EV holds a 4-star Global NCAP safety rating.

11. Citroen eC3X

Price: Rs 11.99 lakh to Rs 13.26 lakh

Four airbags as standard, six in top-spec trim

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

With the 2026 update for the eC3, now called the eC3X, Citroen added curtain airbags as standard, bumping the EV’s overall airbag count from two to four in the base Live and mid-spec Live(O) variants. The top-spec eC3X Shine variant additionally packs front side airbags, bringing the total to six.

12. Mahindra Scorpio Classic

Price: Rs 13 lakh to Rs 17 lakh

Driver and co-driver airbags only

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

The Scorpio Classic is effectively an updated rebrand of the facelifted previous-gen model, but Mahindra continues to sell the SUV with just two airbags across both variants, which isn’t ideal given it’s a 7-seater. Like with the Thar, this could be a limitation of Mahindra’s older ladder-frame platforms.

13. Mahindra Scorpio N

Price: Rs 13.49 lakh to Rs 24.95 lakh

Six airbags in higher trims

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

Entry-level variants of the Scorpio N come with two airbags only, but from the Z8 S trim (Rs 17.25 lakh) onwards, the ladder-frame SUV gets six airbags. Moreover, the Scorpio N holds a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating.

14. Force Gurkha

Price: Rs 16.31 lakh to Rs 17.63 lakh

Driver and co-driver airbags only

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

As is the trend with ladder-frame SUVs on this list, both the 3-door and 5-door versions of the Gurkha off-roader come fitted with two airbags only. They’re also sold in one variant each, so there’s no scope for additional airbags.

15. Jeep Compass

Price: Rs 17.99 lakh to Rs 30.70 lakh

Six airbags in higher trims

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

The Compass may be Jeep’s entry-level model for India, but the SUV ranks as the third-most expensive car on this list. Despite that, the Compass comes fitted with two airbags as standard in entry-level variants. Six airbags are included from the Compass Limited (O) trim (Rs 24.58 lakh) onwards.

16. Toyota Innova Crysta

Price: Rs 19.72 lakh to Rs 26.63 lakh

Three airbags as standard, seven in top-spec trim

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

Though the Innova Crysta is one of the most revered MPVs in India, Toyota doesn’t offer it with six airbags as standard. However, the Innova Crysta stands out as the only model here to be equipped with three airbags as standard – two for the front passengers and a knee airbag for the driver. Starting from the one-below-top Innova Crysta VX variant (Rs 24.93 lakh onwards), the count increases to seven airbags.

17. Isuzu D-Max V-Cross

Price: Rs 25.5 lakh to Rs 30.28 lakh

Six airbags in top-spec trim only

Every car that does not have 6 airbags as standard

Of the two Isuzu models on sale in India, the D-Max V-Cross pickup is the one that doesn’t get six airbags as standard, as well as the most expensive car on this list. Six airbags are available only in the top-spec D-Max V-Cross 4WD AT Z Prestige variant, with all others making do with just two.

All prices are ex-showroom, India.
