Citroen C5 Aircross expert review
We like
Plush ride, space and comfort
Chic, standout style
We don't like
Missing some equipment
Individual rear seats not ideal
The C5 Aircross continues to stand out with its distinct French flair. The facelift brings a bolder double-chevron logo, redesigned grille with twin DRLs, and a new single-unit headlamp setup with layered casings. The redesigned front bumper features grey or blue highlights depending on the body colour. At the rear, tail-lamps now get LED elements. Its SUV-like presence is amplified by the concave bonnet, roof rails and new 18-inch dual-tone alloys.
8.0
The cabin retains its unique layout but now features a slick new 10-inch touchscreen. While it looks premium, it lacks wireless connectivity and a branded sound system. The centre console is more driver-friendly, featuring a new toggle-style gear selector and a rotary mode controller. Front seats are plush, though lumbar support might feel excessive. The flexible three-seat rear layout can be adjusted individually, but lacks comfort for two adults due to no central armrest and limited stretch-out space. Boot space is generous at 580 litres, with an electric tailgate and full-size spare.
7.0
Powered by a 177hp 2.0-litre diesel with an 8-speed automatic, the C5 is smooth and refined. Cabin insulation is excellent thanks to double-glazed windows, and performance is brisk (0-100kph in 9.61sec). Drive and traction modes are present, but differences between them are minimal. No petrol or AWD options limit its appeal.
8.0
Fuel efficiency stands at 10.3kpl (city) and 12.6kpl (highway), with potential for more on longer runs. The stop-start system works smoothly, though its early activation can feel abrupt.
8.0
The standout feature remains its ‘progressive hydraulic cushions’ that offer unmatched ride comfort, soaking up potholes with ease. It’s composed around corners but best enjoyed at a relaxed pace. The soft suspension and light steering make for a soothing drive.
9.0
While the C5 offers a large 12.3-inch digital cluster and retains physical shortcut buttons, it misses key features like ventilated seats, memory functions, and a 360-degree camera, which are available in much cheaper cars.
6.0
At Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom), the C5 is expensive for what it offers. While it delivers unbeatable ride comfort, strong diesel refinement, and distinct styling, its high price, limited features, and quirky rear seat layout hold it back. It’s a car that shines when experienced, but one that will remain a niche choice in India.
6.0

•14wI am planning to buy a new car with an on-road budget of ₹40 lakh. I prefer sedans like the Octavia or Superb and can wait a year or two for the right car. What are my best options?

Autocar India
Sadly, there are no longer any sedans available near the Rs 40 lakh mark, thanks to low demand and a shift in preference to SUVs, and it's unlikely any will launch in the coming years as well. In fact, the ₹30-40 lakh segment has effectively become a dead zone in the market. As for other body styles, you could look at two Stellantis SUVs - the Citroen C5 Aircross and the Jeep Meridian - which are very different takes on the premium SUV.The Citroen is more fun to drive and comfortable with a smooth diesel engine, soft seats and excellent suspension. The Jeep feels more rugged and upmarket with great off-road ability, should you need it, and a luxurious cabin with the option of a third row. You could stretch your budget a bit and get a Skoda Kodiaq, which is the closest thing you'll get to a Superb for the time being.

•22wI want to buy a new car in Mumbai. My priority is ride quality on Mumbai roads, including comfort in the rear seat, along with driving pleasure for occasional long trips. I’ve shortlisted the Citroen C5 Aircross, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Range Rover Evoque, Tata Harrier and Tata Sierra, but I’m open to other options. Please suggest.

Autocar India
Your shortlisted cars vary widely in price and category, ranging from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 75 lakh, including ICE as well as electric cars, so it's hard to pinpoint exactly what you are shopping for. If you plan to do long trips, avoid an EV, as it is just not worth the hassle, given the current state of charging infrastructure. The Citroen C5 Aircross has astonishing ride quality, since that is your primary requirement, but bear in mind that dealerships are few and far between, and the model itself is now dated and due for a replacement. If you move to the upper end of your budget, consider the Audi Q5, which, though also a bit long in the tooth, has excellent ride quality and is an excellent value for money.Similarly, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a full-size SUV with excellent ride quality, with prices from a segment below, and is also definitely worth check out.
