Citroen Aircross
The Citroen Aircross is the French brand’s bet in India’s super competitive midsize SUV segment. The Citroen Aircross price in India starts at ₹8.89 lakh and goes up ₹14.37 lakh, (ex-showroom). At this price point, the Aircross rivals the other midsize SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, Duster, Tata Sierra and Tata Curvv, among others. What’s really unique about the Aircross is that it is the only SUV in its segment that offers the option of a 7-seat configuration, while all other rivals are 5-seaters only.
The Citroen Aircross is available in 7 variants. It is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that offered in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged guises. In naturally aspirated guise, the engine produces 82hp and 115Nm, and is offered with a 5-speed MT gearbox. In turbocharged guise, it produces 110hp and 190Nm (205Nm with AT) and is offered with either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
On the equipment front, the Aircross X Turbo Petrol Max 7 Seat AT comes equipped LED daytime running lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, auto engine start/stop, connected car tech, cruise control, leatherette upholstery, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, Cara digital assistant (AT only) and optional 360-degree camera.
As standard, all variants of the Citroen SUV come with six airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, electronic stability control, a tyre-pressure monitoring system and hill-hold assist.
Citroen Aicross highlights
- The Aircross is positioned in the extremely crowded midsize SUV segment where it rivals the Hyundai Creta, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and Honda Elevate.
- The Aircross has a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP with 27.05 out of 32 points in adult occupant protection (AOP) and 40 out of 49 in child occupant protection (COP).
- The Aircross is the only SUV in its segment to offer the option of 7-seats on the X Turbo Petrol Max 7 Seat AT trim, which are also removable and can be stowed away when not in use.
- In our fuel efficiency test, the real world Citroen Aircross mileage was rated at 9.76kpl in the city and 14.04kpl on the highway with the manual gearbox. As for the automatic, it was slightly less efficient, managing 9.46kpl in the city and 13.62kpl on the highway.
- The Citroen Aircross has a generous ground clearance of 200mm which is sufficient for Indian roads. It also has a cavernous boot that offers between 444-litres and 839-litres of space, depending on the seating configuration.
- Citroen Aircross gets dual-tone colour options only on the X Turbo Petrol Max 7 Seat AT trim for an additional premium.
- The Aicross was originally launched as the C3 Aircross in India. It was later renamed as just the Aircross, and then again as the Aircross X.

Citroën has given the Aircross a distinct design that helps it stand out. Sharing its C-Cubed platform with the C3 hatchback, the front end up to the B-pillar is similar, but the Aircross gets a unique lower bumper, wide air intake, and blacked-out chevron grille. DRLs are LED, but other lighting remains halogen.
The 2,671mm wheelbase—one of the longest in the segment—gives it a well-proportioned stance. Plastic cladding, sharp creases, dual-tone roof options, and 17-inch alloys add style. At the rear, the wraparound glass, C-shaped tail-lights, faux skid plate, and spoiler complete the look, though the absence of LED tail-lamps and a single reversing light are drawbacks.
8.0
The cabin is spacious and comfortable, featuring a dual-tone dashboard with bronze accents. The digital cluster and steering-mounted controls are intuitive. Storage is practical, though the phone slot lacks a lip, and there’s a mix of quality and flimsy materials. Early rattles in our test car suggest fitment issues.
Seats are a highlight—well-cushioned and supportive, with a comfortable driving position aided by height and reach adjustability. The middle row offers good space, though underthigh support is short and the 5-seater misses a three-point belt and centre headrest. The 5+2 variant adds roof-mounted rear AC but loses an armrest and recline.
The removable third-row seats are best for kids and short trips. Their real appeal is versatility—they can be taken out in seconds, freeing up to 839 litres of boot space when the second row is folded.
8.0
Powered by a 1.2L turbo-petrol, the Aircross delivers 110hp and 190Nm (MT) or 210Nm (AT). The engine is smooth and responsive, with minimal turbo lag and impressive midrange grunt. The manual gearbox is crisp, though the springy clutch takes getting used to. The AT is smoother and faster overall but not lightning quick to downshift. The absence of diesel or hybrid options limits appeal in a competitive segment.
8.0
The manual returned 9.76kpl in the city and 14.04kpl on the highway. The automatic managed 9.46kpl and 13.62kpl, respectively. Both get start/stop tech, though it rarely activated due to high ambient temperatures during testing.
8.0
Ride quality is excellent—soft, cushy at low speeds, and planted on highways. There is some vertical movement at high speeds, and suspension noise is noticeable. Handling is tidy, with precise steering, good body control, and reassuring brakes. It’s genuinely enjoyable to drive.
9.0
Feature-wise, the Aircross is basic. It offers a 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, six airbags, TPMS, hill-hold, and traction control. However, it misses push-button start, sunroof, wireless charger, cruise control, ADAS and more.
Cost-cutting is evident: no auto-up windows, rear window switches awkwardly placed, and a basic key fob. The infotainment is user-friendly but lacks physical controls.
6.0
Priced from ₹8.62–14.27 lakh (ex-showroom), the Aircross stands out for its design, ride comfort, and seating flexibility. Its smooth drivetrain and affordability are positives, but cost-cutting and lack of features and engine options are major letdowns. With more thoughtful product planning, the Aircross could have been a stronger contender in the midsize SUV space.

Citroen Aircross mileage
The Citroen Aircross has an ARAI-claimed average mileage of 17.5kpl for the 82hp, 1.2-litre petrol-manual powertrain, while the 110hp turbo-petrol engine returns a claimed 18.5kpl and 17.6 kpl with the manual and automatic gearbox options, respectively.
However, in our real-world mileage tests with the turbo-petrol engine, the Citroen C3 Aircross MT returned 9.76kpl in the city and 14.04kpl out on the highway, resulting in an average of 11.9kpl. As for the automatic, it was slightly less efficient than the manual, managing 9.46kpl in the city and 13.62kpl on the highway for an average of 11.54kpl. The Aircross has a typical upright and boxy SUV stance, but it still has a certain amount of French flair which is what Citroen is known for. There’s also some resemblance with other cars in Citroen’s range, bringing about a family look for the SUV. On the inside, the Aircross isn’t the best-equipped SUV in its class, but it feels well put together and scores well on practicality.

•1dShould I go for the Hyryder or the Aircross X (facelift expected in June)? I mostly drive long distances on highways and want good rear-seat comfort.

Autocar India
We have not heard of any confirmed facelift for the Citroen Aircross X in June, so that seems unlikely for now. Based on your needs, the Citroen Aircross X 1.2 turbo automatic would suit you better than the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder for long highway trips. The Citroen Aircross offers a noticeably more comfortable back seat. It’s wide, has good thigh support, and the backrest angle is spot-on for long journeys. Ride quality is supple even on uneven surfaces, and the car stays planted at highway speeds, so rear passengers don’t get tossed around. The 1.2‑litre turbo engine has enough punch for easy overtakes, and the automatic gearbox shifts smoothly. As a five-seater, the boot is also generous, which makes it ideal for road trips. The only real drawback is Citroen’s inconsistent sales and service network. Before buying, gauge how proactive your local dealer is. If they’re indifferent during the sales process, expect even less enthusiasm during service visits. If that’s the case, it’s best to walk away.Opt for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder only if you prioritise Toyota’s bulletproof reliability and after-sales support. But for your stated priorities, which are highway comfort and rear-seat space, the Citroen Aircross remains the more enjoyable and relaxed choice.

•1dI own a 2022 Volkswagen Taigun 1.0 Highline and am planning to buy a new car within a budget of ₹15-18 lakh. My priority is maximum space along with premium features. Please suggest suitable options.

Autocar India
You can opt for Kia Carens Clavis in your Rs 15-18 lakh budget; it gives you the most space and the most upmarket feel for the money. You already have a Volkswagen Taigun, which is a great driver’s car, but the Clavis will feel far roomier the moment you get in. The second row has lots of knee room, the third row is usable for adults on short trips, and with the last row folded, the boot is huge for airport runs or a long holiday. Plus, Kia’s service reach in most cities is strong, so upkeep is simple. One thing to be aware of: it won’t feel as lively to drive as your Taigun, and the steering feels lighter, so cornering won’t be as engaging. Moreover, within your budget, you'll get the mid-range HTK+ variant, which, though it has more than just the basics, doesn't offer the full suite of features you get higher up the range. Much better value for money is the Citroen Aircross, which comes in a 7-seat variant with a flexible third row of seats that can be removed when you don't need it. It has a supremely comfortable ride, and for under Rs 17 lakh, you will get the top-spec X Max 7-seat automatic variant. Just bear in mind, Citroen's service network isn't as wide as Kia's, so make sure there's an outlet near you.

•6wI am 6 ft 2 in tall and want to buy an SUV. I am a bit confused between the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Mahindra 7XO/Scorpio, Honda Elevate, Suzuki Victoris, Grand Vitara, Hyryder, and Skoda Kushaq. Please suggest a suitable choice based on better ride quality and comfort, for city traffic, budget around 15L, 30km daily driving, and seating for 5/7.

Autocar India
Do note that you will only get the base models of most of these SUVs in your budget of Rs 15 lakh (the two Mahindra cars are entirely out of your budget), so be prepared to increase your budget if you want more features or a more powerful engine. That being said, among your chosen options, the Tata Sierra is the most spacious and comfortable, and best suited for tall passengers, so that should be your choice from the five-seaters.If you want a seven-seater, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the best value-for-money option you could pick, and it meets all your requirements, including the budget. However, another car worth considering is the Citroen Aircross X, which comes in both 5- and 7-seat options, and is priced really well. It's spacious, comfortable and gets a punchy engine with a smooth 6-speed automatic gearbox.

•6wI wish to buy a new mid range automatic petrol SUV. Had been owner of Honda Amaze for 11 yrs. Low maintenance, less service costs, happy ownership. So planned to buy Elevate CVT but found it lagging in power. Test drove Citroën Aircross/Basalt Turbo AT, found them to be more powerful. But lack confidence to buy due to other ownership reasons. Can you suggest a Automatic SUV in range of 17 to 19 with usage of 80% Bangalore city drive?

Autocar India
If you are looking for something with similar performance to the Citroen Basalt/Aircross, you should consider the Volkswagen Taigun or the Skoda Kushaq with the 1.0 TSI and torque converter automatic. The facelifted Kushaq now gets an 8-speed automatic replacing the old 6-speed unit, and the Taigun will get the same when it is facelifted later this year. The 1.0 TSI makes a healthy 115hp and 178Nm, which delivers better performance than the naturally aspirated engine in the Elevate and is on par with the Basalt. The 6-speed torque converter automatic was also smooth-shifting and very convenient to use, and we expect the 8-speed to be more of the same. With 80 percent of your driving in heavy Bengaluru traffic, this transmission will be a boon.Prices for the facelifted Kushaq will be announced later this month, and we expect our first drive reviews to drop around the same time. Before you decide, take a test drive, of course.

•7wI have been driving a Honda Amaze petrol for the last 10 years and am now planning to switch. I have shortlisted the Basalt X/Aircross X automatic transmission. Will it be a good option considering their good ride quality, or are there any better options available between ₹13 to 14 lakh?

Autocar India
Yes, the Citroen Basalt X or Aircross X would make great upgrades from your Honda Amaze. For one, they are a size larger, and secondly, they are very well priced - although consider upping your budget very slightly to get a higher-spec automatic variant. Both cars have excellently calibrated suspension, which gives them superb ride quality as well as sharp handling. This is only complemented by their smooth yet punchy 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and 6-speed torque converter automatic. Considering your requirements, either of these would be a great option for you.

•9wI own a 2011 Vento 1.6 MPI. In a few years, I want to upgrade to a bigger SUV like the Kodiaq, Meridian, or a pre-owned 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan. Which one will be more reliable and offer a peaceful after-sales experience? I live in Pune, so the service network is good for most brands. If buying new, I have the Citroen C3 Aircross in mind.

Autocar India
Finding a genuinely good, sparingly used example of the Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq, or Volkswagen Tiguan isn’t always easy. These are relatively expensive SUVs, and many owners tend to keep them. If you do find a 2024 model with low kilometres, full service history and no accident record, reliability shouldn’t be a major concern. They’re still relatively new and based on proven platforms and engines.Between the three, VW and Skoda’s dealer networks tend to be more consistent than Jeep’s when it comes to the aftersales experience. Since you’re in Pune, network strength isn’t a problem, but service attitude and technical depth do matter, especially with turbo-petrol, DSG-equipped European SUVs. On that front, the Kodiaq and Tiguan usually inspire a bit more confidence. Ultimately, though, condition, service history and how the previous owner has treated the car should be your top priority when buying pre-owned.For peace of mind, you could also explore our partner channel Spinny, which has a good reputation for selling quality pre-owned vehicles that have been inspected and come with warranty support. That reduces risk compared to buying from an unknown individual seller. If you’re considering a new one instead, the Citroen Aircross is a very different proposition. It’s not in the same league as the Kodiaq or Tiguan in terms of outright performance, cabin plushness or road presence. Performance, too, is not in the same league. That said, buying new has its own advantages - full warranty, zero history risk and predictable maintenance. If you’re happy with the space and don’t mind that it’s not as premium or powerful as the larger German SUVs, it can be an easy car to live with. One word of caution: Citroen dealer experience can vary. If you find yourself having to chase the dealership repeatedly just to get a test drive or basic information, take that as a red flag.

•10wI’m looking for a mid-size petrol SUV with an automatic transmission for a family of five. Good driving comfort, suspension, spaciousness, and ease of maintenance are my key requirements. My budget is ₹13-15 lakh. Please advise.

Autocar India
For a mid-size SUV in your budget, you would mostly get base to low variants of most vehicles, so prepare to miss out on some features and equipment. However, there is one exception, which handily serves your other requirements nicely as well. The Citroen Aircross X is exceptional value for money, offering both 5- and 7-seat layouts with lots of space for passengers and luggage. Its suspension is superbly tuned and offers possibly the best ride comfort in the segment, and its 6-speed torque converter automatic is smooth and pairs well with the punchy 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. While service costs are reasonable, Citroen's service network isn't as wide as other brands', so make sure there is a service centre close enough to you.

•10wI am looking forward to the Citroen C3 Aircross, but am a little concerned regarding its mileage. As one of my friends said, the average of turbocharged engines is very low. They will give an average of only 10 kmpl. Is this true? What is the real-world mileage of the Citroen C3 Aircross?

Autocar India
The Citroen Aircross has a turbo petrol engine, so relatively lower mileage is not surprising. In our tests, the Aircross returned around 9.5 kmpl in city conditions for both the manual and automatic variants. For reference, the Kia Sonet, which is similarly priced but smaller in size, returned around 11.5 kmpl in the city, giving it an advantage of almost 2 kmpl in efficiency. The main reason for that is the Aircross’s larger size and weight. That said, since our efficiency test was carried out in Mumbai, in cities with more free-flowing traffic, you can expect a bit more mileage from the Aircross.

•10wMy budget is within Rs 14 lakh. My first preference is a smooth, quiet, and non-bumpy ride on our roads. I do not mind having fewer tech features. I travel on both city roads and connecting village roads. Which car would be a good choice for me?

Autocar India
You should consider buying the Mahindra XUV 3XO. It offers good ground clearance and excellent ride quality, especially over rough roads. You will not be skimping on features either, as within your budget, you can get the AX7 petrol manual, which is very well equipped. If you want an automatic, you can opt for the AX5 variant. If you want a larger car with a bigger boot, you can also consider the Citroen Aircross or the Basalt. In your budget, you will get the mid-variant of either of these cars, which are decently equipped. The highlight of both these cars is the fact that you get a midsize SUV for the price of a compact SUV, and their ride quality, too, is right up there with the very best in the segment. We would also suggest waiting for another two months for the new generation Renault Duster, which is slated to launch in March. The Duster has traditionally offered excellent ride quality and strong rough-road ability.

•11wI want to buy a 7-seater, and my choices are the Kia Carens Clavis and the Citroen Aircross X. Petrol is the only option I can choose due to NCR restrictions. The Citroen has a torque converter automatic and good ride quality, but I am concerned about its service network and long-term trust. The Citroen also offers better mileage than the Carens. My budget is around ₹17 lakh. Please suggest which one to choose. Usage will be mostly city driving, with hill trips once every quarter. Thanks.

Autocar India
The Kia Carens Clavis has a plusher cabin and a stronger 160hp 1.5 turbo petrol engine, which gives it better acceleration for quick overtakes in the hills and on the highway. The overall cabin is also more spacious than that of the Citroën Aircross X.Where the Citroen scores in sheer comfort, thanks to its brilliant suspension and very well-cushioned seats. The Aircross’ 110hp 1.2 turbo petrol engine is also quite capable, and for city driving, its 6-speed torque converter is smoother than the Carens’ DCT.Overall, the Citroen Aircross X is the better bet. It makes a great everyday car, has superb suspension for bad roads, offers adequate power for hill driving, and is significantly cheaper than the Carens, which starts at around ₹19 lakh for the DCT variants and is over your budget.
