Citroen Aircross
The Citroen Aircross is the French brand’s bet in India’s super competitive midsize SUV segment. The Citroen Aircross price in India starts at ₹8.89 lakh and goes up ₹14.37 lakh, (ex-showroom). At this price point, the Aircross rivals the other midsize SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, Duster, Tata Sierra and Tata Curvv, among others. What’s really unique about the Aircross is that it is the only SUV in its segment that offers the option of a 7-seat configuration, while all other rivals are 5-seaters only.
The Citroen Aircross is available in 7 variants. It is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that offered in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged guises. In naturally aspirated guise, the engine produces 82hp and 115Nm, and is offered with a 5-speed MT gearbox. In turbocharged guise, it produces 110hp and 190Nm (205Nm with AT) and is offered with either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
On the equipment front, the Aircross X Turbo Petrol Max 7 Seat AT comes equipped LED daytime running lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, auto engine start/stop, connected car tech, cruise control, leatherette upholstery, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, Cara digital assistant (AT only) and optional 360-degree camera.
As standard, all variants of the Citroen SUV come with six airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, electronic stability control, a tyre-pressure monitoring system and hill-hold assist.

- Citroen Aircross gets dual-tone colour options only on the X Turbo Petrol Max 7 Seat AT trim for an additional premium.

8.0
Citroën has given the Aircross a distinct design that helps it stand out. Sharing its C-Cubed platform with the C3 hatchback, the front end up to the B-pillar is similar, but the Aircross gets a unique lower bumper, wide air intake, and blacked-out chevron grille. DRLs are LED, but other lighting remains halogen.
The 2,671mm wheelbase—one of the longest in the segment—gives it a well-proportioned stance. Plastic cladding, sharp creases, dual-tone roof options, and 17-inch alloys add style. At the rear, the wraparound glass, C-shaped tail-lights, faux skid plate, and spoiler complete the look, though the absence of LED tail-lamps and a single reversing light are drawbacks.
8.0
The cabin is spacious and comfortable, featuring a dual-tone dashboard with bronze accents. The digital cluster and steering-mounted controls are intuitive. Storage is practical, though the phone slot lacks a lip, and there’s a mix of quality and flimsy materials. Early rattles in our test car suggest fitment issues.
Seats are a highlight—well-cushioned and supportive, with a comfortable driving position aided by height and reach adjustability. The middle row offers good space, though underthigh support is short and the 5-seater misses a three-point belt and centre headrest. The 5+2 variant adds roof-mounted rear AC but loses an armrest and recline.
The removable third-row seats are best for kids and short trips. Their real appeal is versatility—they can be taken out in seconds, freeing up to 839 litres of boot space when the second row is folded.
8.0
Powered by a 1.2L turbo-petrol, the Aircross delivers 110hp and 190Nm (MT) or 210Nm (AT). The engine is smooth and responsive, with minimal turbo lag and impressive midrange grunt. The manual gearbox is crisp, though the springy clutch takes getting used to. The AT is smoother and faster overall but not lightning quick to downshift. The absence of diesel or hybrid options limits appeal in a competitive segment.
8.0
The manual returned 9.76kpl in the city and 14.04kpl on the highway. The automatic managed 9.46kpl and 13.62kpl, respectively. Both get start/stop tech, though it rarely activated due to high ambient temperatures during testing.
9.0
Ride quality is excellent—soft, cushy at low speeds, and planted on highways. There is some vertical movement at high speeds, and suspension noise is noticeable. Handling is tidy, with precise steering, good body control, and reassuring brakes. It’s genuinely enjoyable to drive.
6.0
Feature-wise, the Aircross is basic. It offers a 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, six airbags, TPMS, hill-hold, and traction control. However, it misses push-button start, sunroof, wireless charger, cruise control, ADAS and more.
Cost-cutting is evident: no auto-up windows, rear window switches awkwardly placed, and a basic key fob. The infotainment is user-friendly but lacks physical controls.
7.0
Priced from ₹8.62–14.27 lakh (ex-showroom), the Aircross stands out for its design, ride comfort, and seating flexibility. Its smooth drivetrain and affordability are positives, but cost-cutting and lack of features and engine options are major letdowns. With more thoughtful product planning, the Aircross could have been a stronger contender in the midsize SUV space.

However, in our real-world mileage tests with the turbo-petrol engine, the Citroen C3 Aircross MT returned 9.76kpl in the city and 14.04kpl out on the highway, resulting in an average of 11.9kpl. •6dI actually do not want an Ertiga, XL6, or Kia Carens. I am looking for something a bit different with better road presence and a more premium comfort feel. Can you suggest some good used 6-7 seater options in the Rs 7-12 lakh range? Also, considering that my usage is mostly city driving with occasional highway trips and not very high running, should I go for a petrol or diesel car? Which option would make more sense in terms of maintenance, reliability, fuel efficiency, and long-term ownership?

Autocar India
In that price bracket, your other 6-7-seater options are Renault Triber and Nissan Gravite. These offerings are surprisingly spacious and practical, and since your usage is limited to the city, they will feel very user-friendly, with their light controls and relatively compact dimensions.Alternatively, you could consider a Citroen Aircross. Being a rare sight on our roads and having proper SUV credentials, it delivers in terms of road presence. However, its third row is not as spacious as other seven-seaters listed, and you will have to stretch your budget by a few lakhs to get this, since the seven-seater is available with the more powerful turbo-petrol engine.Taking all things into consideration, we'd urge you to reconsider and opt for the 1.5 petrol Kia Carens or Maruti Ertiga if you want a comfortable seven-seater.

•1wI am planning to buy a new car mainly for long-distance travel comfort. Which would be the better option among the Elevate, Hyryder, and Citroen Aircross? My priorities are comfort, power, and performance.

Autocar India
Being a Fiat Punto Evo owner, you're likely to lean towards the Citroen Aircross for its outstanding ride-handling balance, overall comfort, and its strong turbo-petrol powertrain. Fundamentally, it is excellent, and with the new interiors and feature set, it does make you feel like you've spent your money well. The only downside and perhaps the biggest deal-breaker for many is that its sales and support network is limited, compared to other brands. But if you have a Citroen touchpoint close to you, this is a car you must surely consider. In comparison, the Honda Elevate will be a more conventional option. What's nice is that its ride quality and long-distance comfort are quite good too, and its 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol engine delivers strong performance.

•4wHi, which 6-seater SUV should I buy around 15 lakh in Pune? I am looking for good safety, average performance with around 15+ kmpl mileage, a sunroof, and an automatic with decent power.

Autocar India
The Kia Carens diesel automatic is the closest match to your brief. It is not an SUV in shape, but it gives you the space, easy access to the third row, and the features you want at this price. Pick the diesel with the automatic gearbox, because that is the one most likely to meet your 15kpl goal in real-world use while still feeling strong enough with a full load. The Carens also offers important safety gear across trims like multiple airbags and stability control, and mid-to-higher trims offer a sunroof, which makes long trips nicer for the second row.Two things to keep in mind for your budget. The exact Carens trim that bundles diesel, automatic and a sunroof may sit a bit above Rs 15 lakh on-road in Pune, so you may need a small stretch of the budget. Also, it feels more like a family car than a tough SUV, so if you want a high, rugged feel, this will not give you that.If the sunroof is not a must and you want to stick closer to Rs 15 lakh, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 automatic 6-seater is the value pick. It is smooth in the city, uses less fuel than most petrol rivals, and is easy to live with, but it does not offer a sunroof, and its engine isn't punchy. If you must have an SUV, there is the Citroen Aircross, which also offers smoothness and punch. That said, its third row is not as spacious as the others, and it also doesn't offer a sunroof.

•5wHi, currently, I am using a Tata Altroz petrol manual XZ (2020). Now, I want to upgrade to a mid-size SUV. My driving is 50% in the city and 50% on highways. My budget is ₹15 lakh. My priorities are safety, space, comfort, mileage as well as a smooth and powerful engine. I prefer a manual car. Kindly suggest.

Autocar India
Given your requirements, you could shortlist Skoda Kushaq Classic+, Citroen Aircross X Max and Honda Elevate V MT. All of these are excellent options with powerful engines and manual transmission. The Kushaq has been updated recently, and its entry-level Classic+ variant covers the basics well, and is the most affordable of the bunch. The Citroen car that we have mentioned has an excellent turbo-petrol engine, and the nicest ride quality. It is also gives you the option of seven seats at this price. The Elevate is a no-nonsense SUV with a strong, high-revving naturally aspirated petrol engine and an excellent ride-handling balance. We'd recommend you drive all three and pick the one that meets all your requirements.

•6wShould I go for the Hyryder or the Aircross X (facelift expected in June)? I mostly drive long distances on highways and want good rear-seat comfort.

Autocar India
We have not heard of any confirmed facelift for the Citroen Aircross X in June, so that seems unlikely for now. Based on your needs, the Citroen Aircross X 1.2 turbo automatic would suit you better than the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder for long highway trips. The Citroen Aircross offers a noticeably more comfortable back seat. It’s wide, has good thigh support, and the backrest angle is spot-on for long journeys. Ride quality is supple even on uneven surfaces, and the car stays planted at highway speeds, so rear passengers don’t get tossed around. The 1.2‑litre turbo engine has enough punch for easy overtakes, and the automatic gearbox shifts smoothly. As a five-seater, the boot is also generous, which makes it ideal for road trips. The only real drawback is Citroen’s inconsistent sales and service network. Before buying, gauge how proactive your local dealer is. If they’re indifferent during the sales process, expect even less enthusiasm during service visits. If that’s the case, it’s best to walk away.Opt for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder only if you prioritise Toyota’s bulletproof reliability and after-sales support. But for your stated priorities, which are highway comfort and rear-seat space, the Citroen Aircross remains the more enjoyable and relaxed choice.

•6wI am planning to buy a new car around August 2026 with a budget of ₹15-17 lakh. I am currently confused between the Toyota Hyryder and the upcoming/facelifted Citroën Aircross X (expected around June).

Autocar India
Go for the Citroen Aircross if comfort and space are your priority; otherwise, pick the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder for a more well-rounded ownership experience. The Citroen has a more spacious rear seat, better cushioning and a softer ride, which makes it noticeably more comfortable over long drives and bad roads. If you are often travelling with family or prioritise back seat comfort, this is the car that will feel better day to day.The Hyryder takes a different approach. It is not as spacious or plush at the rear, but it feels more complete overall, with better features, refinement and a stronger ownership experience thanks to Toyota’s reliability and service support. It is the easiest car to live with long-term.

•6wI own a 2022 Volkswagen Taigun 1.0 Highline and am planning to buy a new car within a budget of ₹15-18 lakh. My priority is maximum space along with premium features. Please suggest suitable options.

Autocar India
You can opt for Kia Carens Clavis in your Rs 15-18 lakh budget; it gives you the most space and the most upmarket feel for the money. You already have a Volkswagen Taigun, which is a great driver’s car, but the Clavis will feel far roomier the moment you get in. The second row has lots of knee room, the third row is usable for adults on short trips, and with the last row folded, the boot is huge for airport runs or a long holiday. Plus, Kia’s service reach in most cities is strong, so upkeep is simple. One thing to be aware of: it won’t feel as lively to drive as your Taigun, and the steering feels lighter, so cornering won’t be as engaging. Moreover, within your budget, you'll get the mid-range HTK+ variant, which, though it has more than just the basics, doesn't offer the full suite of features you get higher up the range. Much better value for money is the Citroen Aircross, which comes in a 7-seat variant with a flexible third row of seats that can be removed when you don't need it. It has a supremely comfortable ride, and for under Rs 17 lakh, you will get the top-spec X Max 7-seat automatic variant. Just bear in mind, Citroen's service network isn't as wide as Kia's, so make sure there's an outlet near you.

•9wCan you suggest the best value-for-money mid-size SUV for usage in Bangalore city? The car will mainly be used within the city, along with occasional road trips. My budget is Rs. 15-20 lakh.

Autocar India
In terms of outright value for money, two midsize SUVs stand out above the rest, at your budget, albeit for very different reasons - the Honda Elevate and Citroen Aircross. Both have fully loaded top-spec petrol automatic variants that come well within your budget and though they might not get all the high-tech features or wow factor some newer rivals do, they have all the essentials and then some. The Citroen scores high on space and comfort, even giving you the option of a third row of seats. Its turbo-petrol engine is punchy, its 6-speed AT is smooth and its ride is super comfortable, with fun driving dynamics too. However, quality isn't quite a strong as others, and Citroen's service network is quite small. Honda's, on the other hand, is not, and its products have been known to be reliable and easy on maintenance. Its CVT auto is smooth, as is its naturally aspirated i-VTEC petrol engine. Refinement, however is not great, and while it's competent, it's not particularly exciting to drive. Between the hassle-free Honda and the quirky Citroen, we would recommend the latter, as its turbocharged engine's punch will be appreciated on your occasional road trips. A third option is the newly launched Renault Duster, but you won't get a top-spec variant in your budget.

•12wI am 6 ft 2 in tall and want to buy an SUV. I am a bit confused between the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Mahindra 7XO/Scorpio, Honda Elevate, Suzuki Victoris, Grand Vitara, Hyryder, and Skoda Kushaq. Please suggest a suitable choice based on better ride quality and comfort, for city traffic, budget around 15L, 30km daily driving, and seating for 5/7.

Autocar India
Do note that you will only get the base models of most of these SUVs in your budget of Rs 15 lakh (the two Mahindra cars are entirely out of your budget), so be prepared to increase your budget if you want more features or a more powerful engine. That being said, among your chosen options, the Tata Sierra is the most spacious and comfortable, and best suited for tall passengers, so that should be your choice from the five-seaters.If you want a seven-seater, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the best value-for-money option you could pick, and it meets all your requirements, including the budget. However, another car worth considering is the Citroen Aircross X, which comes in both 5- and 7-seat options, and is priced really well. It's spacious, comfortable and gets a punchy engine with a smooth 6-speed automatic gearbox.

•12wI wish to buy a new mid range automatic petrol SUV. Had been owner of Honda Amaze for 11 yrs. Low maintenance, less service costs, happy ownership. So planned to buy Elevate CVT but found it lagging in power. Test drove Citroën Aircross/Basalt Turbo AT, found them to be more powerful. But lack confidence to buy due to other ownership reasons. Can you suggest a Automatic SUV in range of 17 to 19 with usage of 80% Bangalore city drive?

Autocar India
If you are looking for something with similar performance to the Citroen Basalt/Aircross, you should consider the Volkswagen Taigun or the Skoda Kushaq with the 1.0 TSI and torque converter automatic. The facelifted Kushaq now gets an 8-speed automatic replacing the old 6-speed unit, and the Taigun will get the same when it is facelifted later this year. The 1.0 TSI makes a healthy 115hp and 178Nm, which delivers better performance than the naturally aspirated engine in the Elevate and is on par with the Basalt. The 6-speed torque converter automatic was also smooth-shifting and very convenient to use, and we expect the 8-speed to be more of the same. With 80 percent of your driving in heavy Bengaluru traffic, this transmission will be a boon.Prices for the facelifted Kushaq will be announced later this month, and we expect our first drive reviews to drop around the same time. Before you decide, take a test drive, of course.
