Hi team, I am planning to buy a new car next year. I currently own a Kia Sonet GTX Plus and now want to move to a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine option. My budget is around ₹30 to 35 lakh maximum. I want strong performance, a good suspension setup, good handling and, most importantly, comfort for rear passengers and long drives. Kindly suggest which SUVs fit my budget. I have shortlisted the Jeep Compass Model S for its 4x4 option and the Mahindra XUV700 for its AWD option. I am open to other suggestions as well.

The Jeep Compass Model S is the more premium option, with a higher-quality interior and stronger badge value. However, it's also quite a bit more expensive when you consider the top 4x4 version, and most of all, for your requirements, the rear seat isn't all that spacious.
You should definitely go with the Mahindra XUV700 AWD, as it offers more space in the back as well as more features. Its 2.2-litre diesel engine is strong (and so is the 2.0 petrol, in case you're interested), and ride quality and handling are very good too.
If you can wait a little bit, a facelifted version of the XUV700 is arriving in early 2026, which should be improved in many areas, especially when it comes to features. In the meantime, check out our Tata Harrier vs Mahindra XUV700 vs Jeep Compass video.

I've been using a Creta automatic for the last 8 years, and now I want to upgrade to a premium automatic SUV (diesel or petrol) under ₹40 lakh. Could you please suggest the best vehicle for me? My priorities are safety, features, and brand value, and I am not worried about the resale value. Also, a small sub-question: When can I expect the 3rd generation Jeep Compass to launch in India?

The next-gen Jeep Compass will not come to India. Sources tell us that the new STLA Medium platform failed to meet the commercial viability for the Indian market, forcing Stellantis to cancel it. Your best option within the budget would be the Toyota Innova HyCross in the ZX (O) guise.
The top-spec strong-hybrid option gets the Ottoman seats in the middle row, which offer a very comfortable experience and with soft-touch material used in abundance, the cabin feels plush as well.
Also, being a Toyota car, it has strong reliability backing it, and it will hold its value very well throughout its lifetime. It is high on safety, has a well-equipped cabin and plenty of features and has strong brand value too.

I’ve been driving a Grand i10 Nios for the past 5 years. I want to upgrade to a Jeep Compass for its space and premium feel, especially since our family is growing from 4 to 5 (three children, all under 5 years). Is this a good decision, or should I consider alternatives like the Creta, Hyryder hybrid, or other models? My daily office commute is ~30 km, with little to no traffic, and I occasionally take long trips of over 600 km every alternate month.

The Jeep Compass is a very well-built and tough SUV, and also very good off-road; however, it is now quite old and rear space is not very good. This could be a problem with your family growing, as you have said.
You would be better off with a Hyundai Creta, which is a good all-round SUV, spacious, well-equipped and with good engine options. If you are concerned about fuel efficiency, then opt for the Toyota Hyryder strong hybrid as the fuel efficiency will be much better.

Just bear in mind that luggage space is compromised with the battery being placed in the boot; this could be an issue if you carry a lot of luggage on your weekend trips.

We need your advice on purchasing an SUV within a ₹30 lakh budget. I have previously owned a Ford Endeavour. My top priorities are ride stability with minimal body roll in city conditions, along with spaciousness and good cabin comfort. Please advise.

In the ₹30 lakh budget, the three best options for you are the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, and Mahindra XUV700. Each of these SUVs is very capable and has its own set of strengths, including your main requirement of good and stable ride comfort

However, we would recommend the Mahindra XUV700. It offers multiple engine and gearbox options, including optional AWD for better control.

I'm seeking a car that suits my driving style, which can be a bit rough at times. My requirements include strong pickup and torque, and ample boot space. I drive approximately 30 km daily in the city and undertake highway drives of around 100 km twice a week. My budget is between ₹8 lakh and ₹15 lakh, and I'm open to both new and used options. Could you recommend suitable models?

If by rough driving you mean regularly encountering bad roads, you can consider the Citroen Aircross X - it has a brilliant suspension setup. However, choose it only if a Citroen service centre is available in your city. The Mahindra XUV3XO and Tata Nexon are also rugged compact SUVs with turbo petrol engines - the Mahindra offers a stronger engine, while the Nexon comes with a relatively bigger boot. Among used options, the Jeep Compass is worth considering.
