Treat this as a serious safety issue and do not drive the car. Get it flatbed-towed to an authorised Jeep Compass workshop, keep the broken bolt with you, and click clear photos of the part, the area it came from, and the car’s VIN and odometer. Ask the workshop to open and check the full steering and front suspension on both sides, not just the one bolt. That means the steering rack mounts, tie-rod ends, lower arms, subframe mounts and all related fasteners. Ask for a written report that explains what failed, why it failed, and what they will change.Insist that all affected parts and bolts are replaced, not reused, and that they do a full torque check with markings you can see. Its 2.0‑litre diesel engine paired with a 9‑speed automatic makes it a solid long‑distance cruiser, and its suspension handles rough roads with ease. The best bet in your budget is the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel-AT in fully loaded AX7 T form. It's got a strong diesel engine, smooth gearbox, and, as someone used to a Yeti, you'll appreciate the ride and handling balance too. The XUV 7XO is also packed with lots of tech and features, which really make it feel like a good value even at its price.Alternatively, you could consider the Jeep Compass, which, like your Yeti, comes across as a solidly engineered product. It has been around for quite some time now, but there's a toughness that shines through, and ride and handling are also really good. The 9-speed gearbox dulls some of the engine's performance, though. The Compass is also not very large for its price - something that also worked against the Yeti.

Yes, the Jeep is an excellent long-distance cruiser; it is well-equipped, too, and if you are absolutely smitten by the Jeep Compass, the attractive buyback plan is something you could opt for.However, if you are not a die-hard Jeep fan and are open to options, you could consider a Mahindra XUV 7XO or Tata Harrier instead.

The Jeep Compass was an excellent offering a few years ago; however, there are way better options in the market now. The Mahindra XUV 7XO, as an example, is smoother, more refined and significantly more spacious. Its ride and handling balance is also excellent. Additionally, for similar or even lower money than the Compass, the XUV 7XO offers the flexibility of three-row seating, which makes it an incredible value for money.If you want something that is relatively more compact, the Tata Sierra is worth considering. It has a similar character to the Compass but is more modern, better equipped and more affordable.
