Iโ€™m upgrading from a Tata Nexon petrol. I have a family of four (two adults and two kids) based in Gurgaon. My average running is around 1,600 km per month, with a higher share of highway driving and long road trips every alternate month. Iโ€™m looking for a safe, comfortable, spacious, and fun-to-drive automatic car. Iโ€™ve shortlisted the following options: Jeep Compass Limited (O) Diesel - I love its driving dynamics, premium interior feel, and overall design. My main concerns are Jeepโ€™s service experience and long-term reliability. MG Hector Plus Petrol - I like almost everything about it, except the driving experience, which doesnโ€™t feel engaging - likely due to the CVT. Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7L Diesel - It ticks most boxes, but Iโ€™m concerned about the slightly cheap interior feel and potential tech-related issues over time. Iโ€™d appreciate help in narrowing down the best option for my use case.

Go for the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7L diesel. It is the most complete upgrade from your Tata Nexon, balancing performance, space, comfort and safety for your kind of long-distance usage. The reason is simple. Your driving is highway-heavy with frequent road trips, and that is exactly where the XUV stands out. The diesel engine is strong and effortless, the ride is stable and comfortable over long distances, and it is one of the few in this segment with a proven 5-star safety rating . It also offers you the proper space for a family of four with flexibility for luggage, which becomes important on longer trips. Yes, the interior does not feel as premium as the Compass, and Mahindraโ€™s tech can be a bit hit or miss, but overall, it delivers the most well-rounded experience for your usage. The Jeep Compass diesel is great to drive and feels the most premium inside, and if your usage was more solo driving or shorter trips, it would be very tempting. But as a family car, it falls short on space and practicality, and Jeepโ€™s reach, too, is limited as compared to Mahindra. The MG Hector Plus petrol is the comfort-focused option. It is spacious, feature-rich and very easy to live with, but the CVT and petrol combination means it does not feel engaging to drive, and efficiency will be noticeably lower, which matters for your monthly running.

My Jeep Compass recently experienced a critical steering failure while I was parking. There was a loud noise, immediately followed by a complete loss of steering control. Upon inspection, a broken bolt from the front assembly was found detached. This appears to indicate a serious manufacturing or component defect and raises significant safety concerns.

Treat this as a serious safety issue and do not drive the car. Get it flatbed-towed to an authorised Jeep Compass workshop, keep the broken bolt with you, and click clear photos of the part, the area it came from, and the carโ€™s VIN and odometer. Ask the workshop to open and check the full steering and front suspension on both sides, not just the one bolt. That means the steering rack mounts, tie-rod ends, lower arms, subframe mounts and all related fasteners. Ask for a written report that explains what failed, why it failed, and what they will change.Insist that all affected parts and bolts are replaced, not reused, and that they do a full torque check with markings you can see. If the car is in warranty, this should be free. Even if it is out of warranty, please ask Jeep for a goodwill repair, as this is a safety issue. Request a loaner car until your car is fixed and tested.Email Jeep India customer care with a simple timeline, photos, VIN, and copies of the job card, and cc the dealerโ€™s service head. Check Jeep Indiaโ€™s recall page for your VIN. If you donโ€™t get a clear answer or a proper fix, you can write to us at [email protected], and we will escalate it further.

I am planning to buy a new SUV and am confused between the Jeep Compass (2026) and the new Renault Duster (2026).

The Jeep Compass (2026) is offered only with a diesel engine, while the new Renault Duster comes only with a petrol engine. So your choice really begins with the powertrain, depending on the kind of driving you do.The Dusterโ€™s 1.3โ€‘litre turboโ€‘petrol and 6โ€‘speed automatic make it the better urban SUV. Itโ€™s smooth, refined, and quite efficient in stop-and-go traffic, while also capable on highways. For its price, it offers impressive comfort and a wellโ€‘rounded driving experience. The Compass, on the other hand, has stronger offโ€‘road credentials and feels more rugged overall. Its 2.0โ€‘litre diesel engine paired with a 9โ€‘speed automatic makes it a solid longโ€‘distance cruiser, and its suspension handles rough roads with ease. The cabin quality and premium feel are clearly a notch above the Duster. However, the gearbox can feel a little lazy in city driving, and itโ€™s not as nimble or responsive as the Duster at low speeds.Do note that the Compass is significantly more expensive to buy and maintain, and its rear seat and boot arenโ€™t the most spacious in this segment. If your priorities are value, urban comfort, and practicality, the new Duster is the smarter choice. Itโ€™s roomy, easy to live with, and offers great bang for the buck. But if youโ€™re willing to spend more for a tougher, more premium SUV that shines on highways and bad roads, the Compass still has strong appeal.

I am a retired person and currently own a Jeep Compass Limited Plus diesel manual, which I am planning to replace. My driving is about 5% in Chennai city and the rest on highways. Once every two months, I go on long road trips, mainly on highways and rural roads. Most of the time, it will be just me and my wife, with occasionally two additional passengers. I am considering the diesel Kia Seltos or Mahindra 7XO within a โ‚น16-18 lakh on-road budget. Kindly suggest which vehicle and model would be most suitable for my needs.

For your usage, which is mostly highway driving with occasional rural roads and long trips, the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel manual is the better fit. It offers a more relaxed and effortless driving experience, especially over long distances. An important point in your case is what you are upgrading from. Your Jeep Compass diesel uses a 2.0-litre engine, and moving to the Kia Seltos diesel, which has a smaller 1.5-litre engine, will not feel like an upgrade in terms of performance. It will feel adequate, but not significantly stronger than what you are used to.The XUV 7XO, on the other hand, also uses a larger 2.0-litre diesel engine, and despite being a bigger car, it will feel like a proper step up. You will notice stronger pulling power, more effortless highway cruising and better overall performance. It also feels more stable and composed at speed, which suits your kind of long-distance driving. Refinement levels are also good, making it a comfortable car for extended journeys. The Seltos diesel is easier to drive in the city and feels more compact and user-friendly, but on highways and rough rural roads, it does not feel as robust or as planted as the 7XO.One important point is the budget. The 7XO diesel variants may go slightly above your Rs 18 lakh on-road range, depending on the variant and location, so you will need to check exact pricing.

Hi, I am a doctor by profession and, of course, a car enthusiast. I own a 2022 Jeep Compass 4x4 top model. I am planning to upgrade to a luxury petrol car. My Running is around 800km a month. Which do you think is the best petrol luxury car under a 70 lakh budget? Thank you.

Choose the BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine 330Li M Sport (petrol). It delivers engaging dynamics and a clear luxury upgrade over your Compass, while staying under Rs 70 lakh. With your 800 km/month, petrol is the right pick for smooth, quiet performance and low hassle. As an enthusiast, youโ€™ll feel the step up in steering feel and balance compared to the Jeep Compass 4x4, yet the longโ€‘wheelbase cabin keeps it comfortable for daily use. Within your Rs 70 lakh budget, the M Sport trim delivers the premium fit-finish youโ€™d expect from a top model, along with 6 airbags and strong active safety features. BMWโ€™s warranty can be extended to 6 years, which keeps ownership predictable. Confirm current pricing and package availability with your dealer. The 330Li also rides quite well and doesn't have the hard-edged ride of your Compass. You do have to watch out for speed breakers, though, as the ground clearance is low.If you expect frequent rough roads or prefer a higher seating position, consider the Audi Q5 45 TFSI Technology instead. It rides quite well, has good ground clearance, and its quattro traction inspires confidence without crossing your Rs 70 lakh cap.

Hello Autocar Team, we are a family of four, and all of us are around 6 feet tall. We have been loyal Honda owners for over 15 years, having driven the Honda City and Jazz extensively. While those cars suited us earlier, we now require a more spacious SUV due to our height and growing needs. We have shortlisted the Jeep Meridian, Toyota Innova Hycross, Mahindra XUV700, and Skoda Kodiaq. However, we have concerns about space in the Meridian, size and safety ratings of the Hycross, interior quality of the XUV700, and maintenance costs of the Kodiaq. Our top priorities are safety, sturdiness, dependability, comfort, and a premium feel. We are not considering Kia, Tata, or MG models. The car will be used for Mumbai city driving as well as long highway trips, and we prefer a petrol automatic. Resale value is not a priority-we value driving pleasure as we will be self-driving. Our maximum budget is โ‚น50 lakh. Could you please advise which of these options would be the best choice for our requirements?

For your requirement of a spacious, premium, driver-focused SUV for a tall family of four, the Skoda Kodiaq is the best fit among your shortlisted options. It offers a solid build, premium cabin quality and a genuinely engaging driving experience, which aligns well with your priority of driving pleasure. For 6-footers, the front and second rows are comfortable with good headroom and support. Also, with the third row folded, you get excellent luggage space for long trips. The petrol automatic is refined and smooth in the city, while also feeling very stable and confidence-inspiring on highways. The Jeep Meridian, while rugged and solid, does feel tight on space, especially for taller passengers, which you have already noticed. The Mahindra XUV 7XO is a strong all-rounder, but as you pointed out, the interior quality does not feel premium enough for your budget. The Toyota Innova Hycross is extremely comfortable and reliable. But it is more comfort-oriented than driver-focused, and the interior look, feel, and quality may not meet your expectations of a premium experience. You can also consider the Volkswagen Tayron, which is essentially Volkswagenโ€™s version of the Kodiaq. Both cars share the same platform, engine and core mechanicals, with the Tayron offering a slightly different design and more features. However, it is slightly more expensive, and the overall ownership experience will be very similar to the Skoda.
