Average fuel economy (petrol)
The Tata Tigor stands out in the sub-4 m saloon segment with a distinctive sloping roof and fastback-like profile. The recent design refresh enhances its premium appeal with a sharper grille, chrome accents and crisp headlamps, though a thick A-pillar slightly hampers visibility at intersections.
Engineering for both petrol and iCNG remains rooted in simplicity and practicality. The CNG variant retains the same sturdy platform and adds a semi-independent rear suspension with dual path struts and a twist beam to handle the extra weight of the CNG cylinders. This keeps the car confident and composed on urban roads while contributing to a slightly firmer ride.
7.0
Inside, the Tigor feels spacious and well-finished for its class. The front seats are comfortable with good support, and clever use of textured plastics lifts perceived cabin quality. The sizable 419-litre boot is a strong suit, though in the iCNG the usable cargo space roughly halves to about 205 litres due to the CNG tank, still enough for a couple of soft bags. Access to the spare tyre is awkward in this layout.
Rear passengers enjoy adequate headroom and knee space, making the Tigor a practical choice for city journeys and occasional highway trips. Light steering and a tight turning radius further enhance urban usability.
7.0
Both petrol and CNG Tigor use Tataโs 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron engine tuned for drivability. In petrol form, the engine feels familiar and adequate for daily use, though the lack of outright urge means youโll work the gearbox to keep momentum alive.
The iCNG version produces slightly lower output (around 73 hp and 95 Nm) yet manages day-to-day performance without a perceptible deficit compared to petrol for typical driving. Engine vibrations are present at idle and under hard acceleration, but refinement is acceptable for the segment and smoothens out on the move.
7.0
Fuel efficiency is a clear strength of the iCNG. Real-world CNG figures hover around 16.85 km/kg in the city and 25.86 km/kg on the highway, closely matching claimed figures. Running costs on CNG are a fraction of petrol, with cost per kilometre roughly one-third of petrol expenditure. Although the additional weight and shorter gearing temper performance slightly, the trade-off for low operating cost is substantial.
Petrol economy is modest in comparison, averaging around 12.7 kmpl in mixed conditions.
7.0
The Tigor feels planted and confidence-inspiring in everyday driving. Suspension absorbs urban bumps well, and despite the firmer ride in the CNG due to extra mass and modified suspension, comfort remains acceptable. Steering is light and accurate at lower speeds, adding to city ease, and the car holds itself well on highways for its class.
Braking performance is slightly compromised by the added weight of the CNG setup, showing longer stopping distances than the petrol in panic scenarios.
8.0
The Tigorโs feature list is competitive for its segment. A touchscreen infotainment system, Harman Kardon audio with excellent sound quality, and practical storage enhance cabin appeal. Safety includes multiple airbags, ABS with EBD and stability aids, and Tataโs robust build adds peace of mind.
8.0
Priced attractively within the compact sedan segment, the Tigor offers strong value โ especially the iCNG for buyers prioritising lower running costs backed by OEM-integrated safety and warranty. While not class-leading on dynamics or tank range versus some rivals, its combination of space, comfort, efficiency and robust package make it a sensible choice for daily commuters and cost-conscious families.

Sameer
โข4wHi Autocar Team, first of all, I would like to thank you for your excellent service. I own a Tata Tigor CNG AMT, purchased in 2024. At the time of purchase, my expected usage was quite high, which is why I chose this model. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, my usage has now reduced significantly to around 50 km per month or even less. The car has been driven approximately 12,000 km so far, mainly due to a few trips and family events. There are also periods when the car is not used at all for 4โ6 weeks continuously. I am concerned about whether such low and irregular usage could negatively impact the carโs long-term health, especially since I plan to keep it for many years. Could you please advise: Whether keeping the car with such low usage is advisable What precautions or maintenance steps I should follow Or whether it would be better to consider selling the car under these circumstances

Autocar India
For your situation, there is no need to worry or consider selling the car. Your current usage of around 50 km per month, even with 4-6 weeks of no driving, is not harmful as long as you follow some basic precautions.Modern cars like your Tata Tigor CNG AMT can handle low usage, but they do need to be run periodically to stay healthy. The main things affected by long idle periods are the battery, tyres and fluids, not the engine itself. You should make it a point to drive the car once every 2-3 weeks for about 15-20 minutes, and occasionally run it on petrol as well, not just CNG. It is also important to stick to annual servicing, even if the running is very low, and keep an eye on battery condition and tyre pressure. There is no real downside to keeping the car, apart from following basic maintenance. Selling it now does not make financial sense either, since the major depreciation has already happened and replacing it will only add more cost.Overall, it is perfectly fine to continue using your current car, and with simple care, it will remain reliable for many years.

โข14wPlease suggest a good CNG car with an AMT automatic gearbox within a budget of Rs 15 to 17 lakh, along with reasonable fuel efficiency.

Autocar India
Since you want a CNG-AMT car, your options are limited. Currently, only three models in our market come with a CNG-AMT automatic powertrain - the Tata Tiago hatchback, the Tata Tigor compact sedan and the Nissan Magnite compact SUV. All fall within your budget, so choose depending on which body style you prefer. The Tata Tiago CNG AMT price starts at Rs 7.23 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.10 lakh, while the Tigor CNG AMT is priced from Rs 8.19 lakh up to Rs 8.74 lakh. Nissan Magnite CNG AMT prices range from Rs 6.89 lakh to Rs 9.70 lakh (ex-showroom).

โข20wI am looking for a CNG automatic gearbox car under โน10 lakh, 5-seater. Please advice the best car to buy as per my requirements.

Autocar India
There are currently three CNG-automatic models on sale in India, in three different body styles. The Tata Tiago CNG AMT (Rs 7.23 lakh-8.07 lakh, ex-showroom) is a hatchback, the Tata Tigor CNG AMT (Rs 8.19 lakh-8.74 lakh, ex-showroom) is a compact sedan, while the Nissan Magnite CNG AMT (Rs 6.89 lakh-9.70 lakh, ex-showroom) is a compact SUV. All fall within your budget, so choose the one which best suits your needs.

โข21wIโm really impressed with the practicality of CNG cars, even though they require compromising on boot space. But why are there no automatic variants in CNG cars? Please correct me if Iโm wrong, in case any models are available. Is this because of the power loss in CNG mode?

Autocar India
CNGs cars and SUVs have come a long way in the past few years. Carmakers like Tata, Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki all offer models with underbody CNG tanks, which means you don't have to compromise on boot space. As for CNG automatics, there are currently three models for sale in India in three different body styles.

โข22wI currently drive a Swift Dzire and cover approximately 4,000 km/month. Please suggest the best automatic car with great mileage for this usage.

Autocar India
Since you are already using a Dzire, upgrading to a new Maruti Suzuki Dzire AMT would make sense for you. It is feature-loaded, offers a comfortable ride, and the Dzire mileage of 25.71 kmpl is impressive for the AMT variants. However, if you want even lower running costs, consider getting a CNG-automatic. Your options include the Tata Tigor CNG AMT and the Nissan Magnite CNG AMT.

โข23wIโm looking for an automatic car in the โน10-12 lakh range - I drive approximately 1,000 km and want reliable, low-maintenance options. Please suggest suitable models. Also, explain the types of automatic transmissions available (and their order of technological advancement), and tell me whether automatic cars with factory-fitted CNG are available and which models to consider.

Autocar India
Tata offers the Tiago and Tigor with a CNG and automatic combination. Both cars fit well within your budget and are convenient, pocket-friendly options. The only downside is their automated manual transmissions (AMT), they tend to feel a bit slow and arenโt as smooth as conventional automatics. To know more about the different types of automatic transmissions, you can check this detailed podcast: Deep Drive - All You Need to Know About Automatic Gearboxes.

โข24wMy monthly running is around 1,500 km, mostly in the city. Iโm looking for an automatic CNG car with sufficient boot space for occasional trips. My budget is โน10-12 lakh, and my priority is driving comfort and mileage.

Autocar India
There are very few CNG-automatic cars on sale currently, so your choice narrows down to the Tata Tigor and the Nissan Magnite. Both fit within your budget. The Magnite has a roomier cabin, while the Tigor offers more boot space since its CNG tanks are placed under the boot. The Tataโs CNG kit is also factory-fitted, unlike Nissanโs dealer-level installation.
Bhavikkumar
โข24wI want to buy a CNG automatic car. Please suggest available options.

Autocar India
Currently, there are only three CNG-automatic cars on sale: the Tata Tiago, Tata Tigor, and Nissan Magnite. The Tata cars offer usable boot space since their CNG tanks are placed under the floor, while the Magniteโs tank eats into the boot space. However, the Magnite is larger and has a more spacious cabin. In terms of pricing, the Tiago is the most affordable, while the Magnite is the costliest.

โข27wI am upgrading from a 2017 Tata Tigor XT petrol manual and am considering the Honda Elevate VX CVT because I like its road presence and reliability. Is this a good choice, or are there other suggestions?

Autocar India
The Honda Elevate VX CVT is certainly a good upgrade over your Tata Tigor. It is priced well, has a good road presence, and, being a Honda, it is also reliable.Alternatively, you could consider the Hyundai Creta, which is more feature-rich and comes with a smoother CVT compared to the Elevate. Another option is the new Maruti Suzuki Victoris, which is more fuel-efficient and comes with a conventional 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
MATHURASWAMY P P
โข27wI commute approximately 90 km daily, primarily on city and outer roads, and prefer a CNG vehicle with an automatic transmission for better fuel efficiency. Could you recommend a reliable and low-maintenance car that suits my daily driving needs?

Autocar India
The only CNG-automatic options currently available in the market are the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor. The Tata Tiago, a hatchback, is priced from โน4.57 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Tata Tigor, a compact sedan, ranges between โน5.48 lakh and โน8.73 lakh (ex-showroom). Choose the body style that best suits your needs.
