Hyundai Aura expert review
We like
Cabin quality, fit-finish
Light controls
Smooth and refined engine
We don't like
Not as spacious as rivals
While the Aura’s design has aged, the 2023 facelift brings some freshness. A new slim grille, inverted trapezoidal air dam, inverted L-shaped LED DRLs, and vertical air vents lend it a sportier front. Hyundai’s satin-finished 2D logos replace the older 3D ones. The new ‘Starry Night’ paint shifts between dark blue and black depending on the light. A rear spoiler adds flair, though the large LED tail-lamps remain unchanged and continue to divide opinion.
6
The interior scores high on quality and rear seat comfort. Copper accents around the dashboard and gear console add uniqueness, though taste may vary. Traditional analogue dials replace the older part-digital cluster, accompanied by a monochrome MID with a digital speedometer and tyre pressure monitoring. Front seats feel narrow and firm with fixed headrests, but the rear offers good support and space for two adults. The 402-litre boot is practical.
7
Powered by an 83hp 1.2L petrol engine, the Aura is available with a 5-speed manual or AMT, and also comes in a petrol-CNG manual variant. Though the diesel and turbo-petrol options are gone, the petrol unit remains smooth and refined—ideal for urban use. It’s responsive to light throttle inputs but lacks the punch for spirited driving.
7
Efficiency figures stand at 17kpl for petrol versions and 28.4km/kg for CNG. These are impressive, though the Maruti Dzire edges ahead in both fuel types.
8
With light controls, plush low-speed ride and a smooth clutch-gear combo, the Aura is a relaxed city commuter. While it isn’t dynamically sharp, its overall comfort suits a laid-back driving style.
7
Six airbags are now standard, with top variants also getting ESP, hill-start assist, and auto headlamps. Convenience features include an 8-inch touchscreen (wired), wireless charging, cruise control, push-button start, rear AC vents, and more, though some segment rivals offer a more extensive list.
7
Priced from Rs 6.5–9.11 lakh (ex-showroom), the Aura isn’t the cheapest or most spacious, but it’s refined, safe, and well-equipped. Ideal as a fuss-free, feature-rich urban commuter, it remains a competent compact sedan choice.

•6wI want to buy a base-model car for city use. Please suggest which is better between the Hyundai Aura and i20 Era, or recommend another car in the same price segment.

Autocar India
The Hyundai Aura and i20 are powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol engine, which is refined, peppy and fuel-efficient. They also use the same smooth 5-speed manual gearbox with a light clutch and steering. Both of these Hyundai cars are equally easy to drive too.Go for the Aura if you need a big boot. Otherwise, the Hyundai i20 is the one to pick - it is well-built, its interior is nicer, the cabin is more spacious, and overall it is the better car.

•7wI need an automatic sedan with a limited budget and essential features. I am confused between the Maruti Dzire and the Hyundai Aura for 90% city use.

Autocar India
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire is a better option than the Hyundai Aura. The Dzire is more spacious and comfortable, and its 1.2-litre petrol engine is a lot more efficient than the Aura's 1.2-litre petrol unit. Both compact sedans get an AMT gearbox, but the Dzire's unit is a bit nicer in the city. Feature-wise, both compact sedans offer a decent equipment list. But the Dzire has the advantage with wireless connectivity and a sunroof for a more premium experience. Moreover, the Dzire will hold its value a lot better, and it is the most economical car to own, especially for the city. The ride comfort is very good, the steering is light, and the efficiency is segment-best.
