I'm planning to replace Hyundai i10 with a petrol automatic car under 15 lakh that should be compact-sized due to limited parking space. The car should be suitable for long weekend drives, and comfortable for rear-seat occupants.
Coming from an i10, the Kia Syros would be a good step up without becoming difficult to manage in tight parking spaces. It remains relatively compact, but its tall, boxy cabin makes excellent use of the available space and the sliding, reclining rear seat is particularly useful for passengers. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol with the DCT also gives it the performance needed for comfortable weekend highway trips. The HTK+ DCT is priced at Rs 11.94 lakh ex-showroom, so it fits comfortably within your Rs. 15 lakh budget. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx 1.0 turbo AT is another option if you want something smaller and easier to park.
Hi Autocar Team, I’m looking to replace my current Tata Punch Accomplished Dazzle Sunroof AMT. I’m not very happy with the AMT gearbox and specifically want to move to a smoother automatic for Hyderabad traffic. My hard on-road budget is Rs 15 lakh. The car will mainly be used by my wife and me, along with our kid, so I’m looking for something that offers good safety, comfort, an automatic transmission, and a sunroof. My biggest priority is long-term ownership and reliability. I plan to keep the car for at least 6-8 years, so it should be reasonably easy and affordable to maintain, with good parts availability and decent resale value. Could you please suggest which car and variant you would personally recommend within a Rs 15 lakh on-road budget in Hyderabad? I’m currently considering cars such as the Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, Škoda Kylaq, and other compact/mid-size SUVs, but I’m open to better options. If you had Rs 15 lakh as a hard maximum budget and were replacing a Punch AMT, which car would you shortlist and why?
Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi AT. It is the most sensible upgrade from the Tata Punch AMT and fits your priorities perfectly. The Brezza uses a 6-speed torque converter automatic, which is significantly smoother and more refined than the AMT in the Punch, especially in stop-start Hyderabad traffic. It is also one of the most reliable and easy-to-maintain cars in the segment, with excellent parts availability and a strong service network, which is important for a 6-8 year ownership plan. The ZXi variant sits in the sweet spot of the range, offering good safety equipment, a comfortable cabin and the features you are looking for, including a sunroof, without stretching your budget. You could stretch for the ZXi+, which costs about Rs 2 lakh more, but that pushes it outside your Rs 15 lakh budget and we feel the additions aren't worth the extra outlay. This Maruti Suzuki car is also a genuinely comfortable 5-seater with a well-sorted ride and a proven ownership track record. The Skoda Kylaq is a good driver's car, but fuel efficiency can take a huge nosedive if you're not careful; the Kia Sonet is feature-rich, but cramped on space and with a firm ride. The Brezza is not the most exciting car in the segment, but it is the one you are most likely to be happy with after 6-8 years of ownership.
I'm looking for an SUV car but my budget is 15 lakh on-road price with automatic for a comfortable family and long trip.
Go for the Mahindra XUV 3XO automatic. It is one of the most spacious compact SUVs in the segment, with a wide rear seat that makes it a genuinely comfortable five-seater for family use. The ride quality is well suited to long trips, and the automatic gearbox is smooth and easy to live with. It also comes with a strong safety package and a good set of features for the price. The only real compromise is the boot, which is on the smaller side for the segment, but overall it offers the best balance of comfort, space and value within your Rs 15 lakh on-road budget. If boot space is a priority, the Maruti Brezza automatic is a good alternative.
I’m planning to buy my first car, and my primary goal is daily office commuting. The distance from home to office is 30 km one way in Mumbai, which is roughly 1,000 km a month. My requirement is an automatic car. Which fuel type should I choose - petrol or diesel? My budget is Rs. 10-15 lakh.
At around 1,000km a month, with a 30 km each-way commute in Mumbai traffic, petrol is the better choice. The running is not high enough to make a diesel automatic's higher purchase price and more complex emissions system worthwhile, particularly when much of the driving will be in stop-start traffic. For a first car under Rs 15 lakh, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza 1.5 AT would be a sensible choice. Its naturally aspirated petrol engine and torque converter automatic are smooth and well suited to Mumbai traffic, while Maruti's service network and generally low maintenance costs make it an easy car to live with. The automatic's certified efficiency is also a respectable 20.17kpl.If you want something more fun to drive, the Kylaq 1.0 TSI AT and XUV 3XO 1.2 turbo AT are worth considering, although their turbo petrol engines and overall ownership proposition are different from the Brezza.
Hi, I have a budget of around Rs 15 lakh. I drive around 180km a week. For two days, I would have to drive on highways for around 80km, while the rest of my driving is a mix of city and local needs. I am a bit confused between the automatic Brezza ZXi and the automatic Grand Vitara Delta. Both have a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine. Could you please suggest?
With around 180km a week, including regular highway use, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara makes more sense if the price difference is manageable. Both use the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a six speed torque converter automatic, so performance is broadly similar. This Maruti Suzuki car is the larger car, with a longer wheelbase, more rear legroom and a larger 373-litre boot. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi AT does have advantages. It is more compact, easier to manoeuvre and park, and its 328-litre boot is still adequate. If most of your driving were urban and you wanted a more convenient, compact SUV, the Brezza would be the sensible choice. However, with two 80km highway runs every week, the Grand Vitara's additional cabin space and longer wheelbase make it better suited to your usage. Its 1.5-litre engine is not particularly powerful, so neither should be chosen for outright performance, but it is adequate for relaxed highway cruising.
