I am planning to buy a new SUV that should be an automatic petrol (not AMT). My monthly running is only about 2000 km, and my budget is ₹ 20-25lakh. Please suggest an automatic SUV with top features that fits my requirements.
For a monthly usage of 2000km, a hybrid option would be cost-effective. You could consider the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, or Maruti Grand Vitara, all of which share their underpinnings and feature-set. Besides being very fuel-efficient, these cars are equipped with all the modern features like ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, etc., with the only missing feature being ADAS.
The only differentiating factor between the three cars is their looks and interior colour theme, so pick the one that attracts you.

Hi, I am looking for a mid-size automatic SUV mainly for city use. It should comfortably seat 5 adults and offer decent boot space. My budget is ₹10-15 lakh on-road. I like the Kia Seltos and Maruti Grand Vitara, and I am not keen on Mahindra or Tata vehicles. Which one would you recommend?
You should know at the outset that both these SUVs will only be available in their base and lower variants at your budget of Rs 10-15 lakh on road; top variants cost more than Rs 20 lakh. But with that in mind, of your shortlisted two, we would recommend the Kia Seltos.
While the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is efficient and smooth, its rear seat feels too cramped for five, and its boot is not huge, either. The Kia Seltos, being a much larger car, offers noticeably more rear-seat space and a bigger boot. It's also better built and has more modern tech on the inside.

I am planning to upgrade my car from Maruti Ciaz and am considering the Maruti Victoris, Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate or Kia Seltos, with a maximum budget of ₹ 20 lakh. I need an automatic transmission and features such as a panaromic sunroof, good infotainment system, speakers, alloy wheels and ventilated seats. Which car and which variant should I opt for with a petrol automatic transmission? Is there any other apart from the one mentioned above? My weekly running will be around 250 km at max in Delhi NCR region.
Given your requirements, you should consider the Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Victoris strong hybrid. Since your usage is high, you'll benefit from the exceptional fuel efficiency of the same strong hybrid-petrol powertrain that powers all three. The Hyryder and Grand Vitara mileage is 27.97kpl, while the Victoris mileage is 28.65kpl, which is slightly higher (claimed).
All three SUVs also come equipped with all the features you want in their respective top-end trims - a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, alloy wheels, a touchscreen infotainment system and much more.
We would recommend you go for the Maruti Victoris since it's the newest of the lot. It has the most features and also a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash safety rating, which the other two don't have.
As for pricing, the top-spec Victoris ZXI+ (O) string hybrid is priced at Rs 19.99 lakh, while the Grand Vitara Alpha+ (O) costs Rs 19.72 lakh and the Hyryder V is priced at Rs 19.76 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

I have a 2015 Fiat Linea T-Jet sedan petrol car. Now I want to switch to an automatic SUV. My budget is ₹12-15 lakh. My monthly driving is about 150 km in the city and up to 250 km on the highway. I am unable to decide between the Maruti Brezza automatic and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Please suggest which car I should choose.
The Maruti Brezza and Toyota Hyryder are in two different segments, and which one you buy really depends on your specific requirements. The Brezza is a compact SUV that sits within the 4 meter length. Also, it is good for cities with its compact dimensions and a nice, cushy, low-speed ride.
However, since you drive more on the highway, the Hyryder would suit you a little better as highway stability is very good, and the ride and handling balance is well set up. Both cars, however, aren't punchy out on the highway. Also, do bear in mind the Toyota Hyryder is essentially the Maruti Grand Vitara, so you could also consider this in case you get a better deal.

I am planning to buy a midsize SUV with a budget under ₹15 lakh. I have shortlisted the petrol variants of the Grand Vitara Delta and the Creta E, with aftermarket accessories for basic features. Please suggest which one I should choose.
Both these SUVs are closely matched, but the Hyundai Creta H has the edge thanks to a more responsive engine and a cabin that feels more upmarket than the Grand Vitara’s. The Maruti-Suzuki Grand Vitara has a marginally better ride and feels more composed over potholes than the Creta. Overall, we would choose the Creta as the better all-rounder between the two.

I own a hybrid Grand Vitara and would like to know whether the electric cells in a hybrid also serve the needs of air-conditioning and other electrical peripherals. If there is a separate battery for these functions, does it get charged automatically by the engine when the car is in idle condition?
In the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara hybrid, the air-con and most electrical systems are powered by the main hybrid battery. There is also a small 12-volt battery, but it only runs basic electricals and electronics like the dashboard and locking.
When you are stopped with the air-con on, the car uses the hybrid battery first. If that battery level drops, the petrol engine automatically starts. The engine then generates power to recharge the main battery and shuts off again when the battery is fully charged.

I am planning to buy a new car. My monthly running is around 2,000-2,500km. I currently drive a 2019 Santro AMT. Diesel and EVs are not an option. Please suggest a reliable, fuel-efficient petrol automatic within a budget of ₹20-22 lakh.
Given your running, we'd recommend a petrol-electric hybrid which would meet your requirements for great efficiency and automatic transmission. Options within your budget include the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Grand Vitara, Hyryder and Honda City Hybrid, all of which are reliable products.
The Maruti Suzuki Victoris is the newest and incorporates several improvements over the Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, with which it is closely related. The Victoris makes for a sensible choice, packing in plenty of features and great efficiency. However, boot space is limited on the hybrid and space at the back is also not great for an SUV/crossover of this size.
The Honda City Hybrid, in comparison, offers a better back seat experience and also more room for luggage. Do note, as good as the Honda City Hybrid is, it's not a very popular product, and this could impact resale when it's time to sell.

I am planning to upgrade from a Wagon-R to an SUV and am confused between the Creta, Grand Vitara, and Hyryder. I am looking for good mileage, comfort, and solid build quality. Which of these would be the best fit?
If you want mileage, comfort, and good-built quality, you can go for Maruti Suzuki Victoris. It scored 5-star in B-NCAP, was launched recently, is feature-rich, and gets a hybrid powertrain that will give you better mileage. Though the strong Hybrid Victoris is on the pricier side.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and subsequently Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are expected to get an update soon, and that means your car will start looking dated very soon. Keeping these in mind, Maruti Suzuki Victoris is a better bet.
But if you want to choose only from the three you have mentioned, then go with the Hyundai Creta. The 2022 Creta tested by GNCAP scored 3 stars, but since then, Hyundai has launched the facelift and has also reinforced the exoskeleton. The facelift has not been tested by any crash test agency yet. This Hyundai car also offers a roomier cabin compared to the Grand Vitara or Hyryder.

I want to buy a new SUV. Which is better, the Brezza or the Grand Vitara? Also, which transmission is better: manual or automatic?
While the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Grand Vitara essentially belong to different segments, there is a price overlap. Without more details, we assume you are considering like-priced models of the duo. From the Grand Vitara line-up, that means the standard 1.5-litre petrol engine, which, incidentally, is shared with the Brezza.
While the larger Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara does have a more upmarket air about it, we'd feel that opting for a better-equipped version of the Brezza would be a better use of your money. For reference, for the same money that you could get a fully-loaded Brezza ZXI Plus, you'll get a mid-spec Grand Vitara. The added features on the Brezza do count for a lot and your experience with the car.
What also strengthens the Brezza's case is that, despite being a smaller vehicle, it feels airier than the Grand Vitara at the back. In terms of performance, there is little real-world difference, since both models use the same engine.
If you live in a city and drive often on congested roads, an automatic would be the one we'd recommend. That said, manual gearbox versions of the Brezza and Grand Vitara are easy to live with too, thanks to their light clutches and smooth gearshifts.

Hi Team, we are a family of five with a monthly usage of around 1,000 km, of which nearly 90% is city driving. I am confused between the Hyundai Venue HX8 1.0 turbo-petrol DCT and the Maruti Grand Vitara Smart Hybrid Alpha Optional manual. The price difference between the two is around ₹1 lakh after current offers. Please suggest a better option.
The Hyundai Venue, with its turbo-petrol engine and dual-clutch transmission, is more fun to drive and offers stronger performance along with the convenience of an automatic gearbox. So if your daily usage includes a lot of stop-and-go traffic, this could be a deciding factor for you. This Hyundai car is also equipped with a better audio system, and its relatively smaller size makes it a touch easier to park as well.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, on the other hand, offers light controls and a refined yet responsive 1.5-litre petrol engine. Its 5-speed manual gearbox is among the best in the segment. It also feels a touch more adept while dealing with bad roads, and its overall ride quality is better.
Yes, you are getting a larger car that's a bit more mature, but you are also paying more. So if you don't mind spending that extra amount, and you're willing to sacrifice the convenience of an automatic, go for the Maruti car.
