Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara FAQs
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara FAQs
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara would be perfect for someone who prioritises fuel efficiency, with sorted driving dynamics and a loaded suite of features. If you prioritise boot space, the naturally aspirated petrol might be a better choice than the hybrid, as the latter has a smaller boot space due to the placement of the battery pack.
The Maruti Grand Vitara’s hybrid engine is suited for someone preferring segment-best fuel efficiency figures and a car that is equally efficient on city roads and highways alike. However, it comes at a premium over the naturally aspirated version, which offers slightly lesser fuel efficiency.
The Maruti Grand Vitara offers an AWD option with the petrol-automatic combination. With an output of 103hp, it is a bit low for the segment. However, on broken and slippery roads and small streams, the Grand Vitara AWD absolutely shines. While it is not made for hardcore off-roading like the Jimny, it is still more capable than the other FWD rivals in the segment.
The Grand Vitara’s seats are among the most comfortable in the midsize SUV segment. The front seats are wide and accommodate even taller occupants with relative ease. On the second row, the seats have a good recline angle and are comfortable too, except on the Hybrid variant.
The Grand Vitara’s USP are the fuel-efficient powertrains. The ride quality and drive experience are also good, and the cherry on top is the optional AWD setup. However, it is not a fun-to-drive SUV. The boot space is also on the lower side with the hybrid and CNG variants.
The Maruti Grand Vitara’s starting price of ₹10.77 lakh makes it more affordable than popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Tata Sierra, Honda Elevate and Kia Seltos. Its top-end price of ₹19.57 lakh is more affordable than the Creta, Seltos, Sierra, Hyryder and Victoris.
The Maruti Grand Vitara is a well-rounded SUV with a modern exterior and interior design, a decent feature suite with likeable comfort and convenience features, and two engine options, one with an AWD setup and another being a fuel-efficient hybrid mill, currently exclusive to Maruti-Toyota models. At its price, while it lacks a bit on engine performance, it still offers a lot of value.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has one of the most fuel-efficient engines in the midsize SUV segment. As per our real-world tests, the Grand Vitara hybrid returned an average fuel efficiency of 22.08kpl. The naturally aspirated petrol engine with an automatic gearbox returned a fuel efficiency of 13.45kpl in real-world conditions.
Compared to the best-seller Creta, the Grand Vitara is 15mm longer, 5mm wider, 10mm taller, but has a 10mm shorter wheelbase. The Seltos is 115mm longer, 35mm wider, and 10mm shorter (in terms of height), and has a 90mm wider wheelbase. The Sierra is 5mm longer, 46mm narrower, 70mm shorter and has a smaller wheelbase by 130mm.
The Grand Vitara’s petrol engine is 12hp/6Nm less powerful than the Creta and Seltos, 3hp/6Nm less than the Sierra, 18hp/6Nm less than the Elevate (all of these come with a similar naturally aspirated petrol engine). An AWD, strong-hybrid and CNG option is only available with the other Maruti-Toyota siblings, so there is no difference in their power and torque figures.
In our opinion, the Maruti Grand Vitara’s higher-spec Zeta+ AT variant that comes with a strong-hybrid engine, offers a well-rounded package. It gets amenities like a panoramic sunroof, a 9-inch infotainment system, rear door sunshades and ventilated front seats. This is bundled up with a fuel-efficient hybrid engine and comes at a reasonable cost, making us recommend it.
The Maruti Grand Vitara is offered with a dual-tone colour option, which comes with a black roof, at Rs 15,000 over the price of the single-tone hue variant.
