Tiago or Alto? How should I choose my second budget car at the age of 67?

If you are looking for a small car that has light and easy controls, the Maruti Suzuki Alto is a good option. It is easy to drive, has a peppy and very fuel-efficient engine. The Alto is also very reliable, and being a Maruti car, it also benefits from a strong service network.
The Tata Tiago, on the other hand, is a better option if you want a more spacious car with better interior comfort and a good ride quality. The Tiago is also very safe and has a 4-star Global NCAP rating.
Thus, the choice really comes down to what you want from your new car.

My monthly usage is around 500km, mostly suburban driving. Which car should I buy that is fuel-efficient and easy to maintain? My budget is Rs 6 lakh.

In your tight budget, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 VXi makes the most sense. It is fuel-efficient, easy to drive, has a well-tuned AMT gearbox, and is very easy to maintain. Maruti’s wide service network keeps ownership stress-free.
If you want a slightly roomier and more practical car, the Maruti Celerio is a good alternative, though you may need to stretch your budget by around Rs 50,000 to get the VXi variant with AMT.

I need an automatic car within a budget of ₹7.5 lakh, and I prefer Maruti Suzuki. Could you please suggest some options?

You should choose between the Maruti Suzuki Ignis Zeta AMT and the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.2 AMT ZXI Plus. Both models are powered by 1.2-litre petrol engines that give them a power advantage over other automatic Marutis in your budget (namely, Celerio, Alto K10 and S-Presso).

Both use automated manual transmission or AMT-type automatics. While these aren't the slickest automatic gearboxes, Maruti's AMTs work smoothly enough if you adopt an easygoing driving style. Fuel economy is also excellent.

Of the two, the Wagon R is more spacious and has a more absorbent ride comfort. On the other hand, the Ignis packs in more features for the same money. If cabin space isn't a deal breaker, opt for the Ignis.

I want to buy an automatic car for my wife, who is a learner. Please advise between the Renault Kwid/Kwid Climber and the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10.

If she is a learner and a new driver, it will be better to go for the AMT version. The Renault Kwid Climber is a better choice than the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10. The Kwid is more spacious, has a bigger boot, and is more comfortable.
The Kwid Climber is also more feature-rich and gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a rear parking camera.

I am looking to purchase a new car for my wife’s office commute, and driver use with a budget of ₹5 lakh, focusing on reliability and decent safety features, without any fancy extras since our Kia Syros is already fully loaded; which car should I choose?

If you want to buy a new car, you can buy the Maruti Suzuki Alto VXi. It is a reliable car- called Lord Alto for a reason, and now it gets 6 airbags for safety. You can also look at pre-loved cars, which will increase your options in terms of price.

Also, now there are many organised players in the used car segment, which give great service and peace of mind.

I want to buy the Celerio LXi instead of the Alto K10 VXi. Is it a better option? Which car is more stable on the highway? How about body roll and NVH levels in both?

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is a larger and heavier car, and correspondingly feels more confident on the highway than a Maruti Suzuki Alto K10. The Celerio will have a slight advantage in NVH, too, and will feel more stable during cornering. Both are city cars, though, and not ideal for highway drives.

Within the same budget, you could also consider the Tata Tiago in XE trim, which feels tougher in its build and drives with more heft than the Maruti Suzuki options.

I want a small car with good fuel efficiency. My budget is ₹6 lakh. I’m considering the Alto K10 and S-Presso as I want reliability and hassle-free ownership. Which one is better, or should I consider another car?

Given your requirements and your budget of ₹6 lakh, you're right, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and S-Presso are your best options. Both of these Maruti Suzuki cars use the same engine and gearboxes, and offer the same hassle-free driving experience.
Of the two, the Alto K10 has the advantage of offering six airbags as standard across the range, while the S-Presso only gets two. However, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso offers more interior space, should you travel with passengers often.
You could also consider the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. You might only get a mid-range variant in your budget, but it offers more space and a more upmarket feel than the Alto and S-Presso.

I’m a first-time car buyer with a family of four. I drive only in the city, and usage is very low. Since parking space is small, Chennai‘s city and street roads are narrow and often flood, I’m thinking of going for a lower-segment automatic car like the Alto K10. Will it better serve my purpose, be safer, and more economical?

The Maruti Alto K10 AMT is a good choice if narrow roads and tight parking are issues you need to consider. However, given that you are a family of 4, it makes sense to consider a Maruti Wagon R. While it is larger than the Alto K10, it is still manageable in size. The biggest advantage of the Wagon R is space. The cabin is very spacious, which is something your family will appreciate.

My parents, aged 55+, are looking to purchase a new car for city use. We specifically want an automatic. Our budget is ₹6-12 lakh (on-road). Our main priorities are easy drivability in the city, some must-have features, good looks, and resale value. Mileage is not a concern as they drive only 500 km a month. The Cars we shortlisted are Alto K10, Swift, Celerio, i10, and Fronx. Which is a better value for money?

Of the cars you have shortlisted, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio is probably the best value for money, as it is priced just above the Alto K10 and shares its engine, while offering up space, practicality, interior quality, and some features from larger, more expensive Maruti Suzuki cars. It is also among the most fuel-efficient petrol cars on sale, even though that is not really an issue for you.
You should also consider the Nissan Magnite 1.0 Turbo CVT, as it offers a much smoother automatic gearbox for the same amount of money; all the cars you have shortlisted feature the more basic AMT automatic gearbox.
