It offers a comfortable ride, a proven naturally aspirated petrol engine and Maruti's strong service network, which keeps long-term ownership costs in check. The torque converter automatic is smooth in city traffic, and the Brezza's higher seating position will help with your back issues. The Sonet iMT is not the right choice here. While it is a good car, the iMT is not a true automatic and will not offer the same ease of use in Gurgaon traffic. The Baleno AMT and Exter AMT are also not ideal given your back issues and the fact that AMT gearboxes are not as smooth as torque converter automatics in stop-start conditions.On the EV front, your apprehension about charging is valid. Without a straightforward home charging solution, an EV will add unnecessary complexity to your ownership experience. The upcoming Bayon is interesting and if you can wait a few weeks you would have a better picture before making a decision. For now, the Brezza automatic strikes the best balance between comfort, efficiency and hassle-free ownership.

Go for the Hyundai i20 Sportz CVT. For your usage of 1,500-1,600 km a month in heavy city traffic, the CVT automatic is the key advantage. It delivers a much smoother, more seamless driving experience in stop-and-go conditions than the Baleno's AMT, which can feel jerky during gear changes. The i20 also feels more premium inside and offers a more refined overall package. The Baleno Zeta AMT is the more fuel-efficient option and a solid, reliable first car, but the mileage difference isn't significant enough to outweigh the comfort and smoothness of the i20 CVT for your usage. For a first car focused on city driving, the Hyundai car mentioned above is the better choice.

The Alpha O gets you the addition of Level 2 ADAS at a premium of Rs 40,000, which you may or may not want to opt for. Overall, this Maruti car is the more practical, sensible and cost-effective choice for your usage.

If you want to buy now, go for the current Glanza G. We are yet to drive the new Baleno with its three-cylinder engine, but going by our experience with the Swift, it is unlikely to be as smooth as the existing four-cylinder unit, and performance is likely to take a small hit as well.The new Baleno does get more features, which is something to keep in mind, but if engine refinement and performance are important, the current Glanza's four-cylinder engine has the advantage.There is also an important timing factor with the Glanza. The current Glanza has not received the update yet, but the facelift is due to launch on October 14 and will also move to the new 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine. So, if you specifically want the smoother four-cylinder engine, this is effectively your last opportunity to buy the current Glanza.

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R ZXI+ 1.2 is a sensible choice for your requirements. It is compact, easy to drive in the city, and the 1.2-litre engine also gives it enough performance for occasional highway runs.However, coming from a Ciaz, you will notice a significant step down in overall refinement, ride comfort and highway stability. The Wagon R is primarily a city car, and while it can handle highway trips, it does not feel as composed or as comfortable at higher speeds as a larger hatchback.Instead, consider the Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift as it would be a better fit and its smaller car than your Ciaz but you won't be compromising too much on comfort and highway ability. The Baleno is still easy to drive in the city, offers a better ride quality and more stability on highways, and is more refined overall than the Wagon R.The upcoming Renault Triber turbo is an interesting alternative if you need more flexibility with seating and boot space, but it is not as refined or as proven as the Maruti options.Overall, the Baleno would be the more balanced upgrade from a Ciaz.
