Please advise me on choosing the best petrol automatic car within a ₹13-14 lakh on-road budget in Bangalore for a family of four. My driving is evenly split between city and highway use. I have shortlisted the Maruti Brezza AT, Skoda Kylaq or Mahindra XUV 3XO AT, and Hyundai Venue DCT. While the Brezza seems practical, I am concerned about its driving engagement. The Kylaq and 3XO raise doubts around mileage and long-term reliability, and the Venue DCT makes me unsure about gearbox reliability and turbo efficiency in Bangalore traffic. Is the Brezza’s driving experience truly disappointing for someone who enjoys driving?
All the models you have shortlisted have their highlights and weaknesses. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is a well-rounded vehicle that excels in space and comfort. Maruti's service network is a huge plus in its own right. However, as you rightly identified, the Brezza is not exciting to drive. This Maruti Suzuki car's performance is fine in city driving conditions, and it will cruise comfortably on the highway. But the engine lacks punch in case that's important to you.
If strong performance and good handling are requirements, the Skoda Kylaq and Mahindra XUV 3XO are the ones to be most interested in. Both models are good to drive, but fuel economy could be a concern in bumper-to-bumper city driving.
We feel you will find a good balance in the Hyundai Venue 1.0 Turbo DCT. The engine is strong enough, and the gearshifts are also nice and quick. DCTs do tend to fumble at low speeds and aren't as smooth as torque converter autos. Although, it's not really an issue and surely not to the extent of avoiding the gearbox type altogether.
Fuel economy should also be better than what you'd get with a torque converter. The new Venue is also quite a wholesome package. The cabin is quite spacious, and the material quality is impressive.

I want to upgrade my car, and my budget is under Rs 10 lakh. I am only looking to buy a pre-owned BS4 diesel automatic or AMT car to avoid issues related to E20 fuel. I am considering a 2019 Brezza AMT. Are there any better suggestions?
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza AMT is a good option to consider. However, since you are looking at a pre-owned model, you can also consider the Hyundai Venue DCT.
The Venue is a good option, and the DCT gearbox is a good match for the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The only issue is that the DCT is a bit jerky at low speeds, so you will have to take a test drive to see if you are comfortable with it.

I am planning to buy an automatic car with an on-road budget of Rs 10-12 lakh. I am not interested in AMT or iMT options. Safety features are a priority, including a rear defogger. Auto climate control would be a plus if available. I am not interested in three-cylinder naturally aspirated engines or hatchbacks. A good service network is also important.
The best option for you is the Honda Amaze, the ZX CVT variant. It's got a nice powertrain that comprises a 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine and a CVT gearbox. Performance is pleasant, and you'll like the performance on offer. Cabin space is also good for this size of car. The Amaze also packs in auto climate control and a rear defogger, and there is confidence in knowing it has also been rated 5 stars by Bharat NCAP.
Alternatively, you could consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, the VXi AT variant. While it is slightly out of your budget, it's a sensible pick. It's got a smooth 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. I have been driving a manual Celerio for the past 10 years. The biggest benefit has been its very low maintenance, and I have never faced any electrical or mechanical issues. We’d suggest you consider a petrol-automatic. There are many options in your budget, though the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Fronx Turbo and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor Turbo are the ones that will best meet your requirements of good economy, low maintenance and reliability.
The Brezza is an upright compact SUV and has the roomiest interior of the options. Its 1.5-litre engine, however, is pleasant but unexciting.
The Fronx and Taisor are essentially the same car. Both are best with the turbo-petrol engine and automatic gearbox option. Performance is impressive, and fuel economy is also good.

I want to replace my 2014 Hyundai Grand i10 with a non-Hyundai car. I am considering petrol versions of the Mahindra 3XO Revx A, Honda Elevate, Brezza, and Skoda Kylaq. I am in a transferable job under the central government and currently drive a 2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift VDI. I am looking for a new car or compact SUV. My monthly usage includes around 1,600 km of long-distance driving and about 200 km of city driving. My budget is Rs 10 lakh. I need a car that is comfortable, reliable for long drives, and economical to own in the long term.
Since you will be driving your car frequently on highways, you may want to consider the Mahindra XUV 3XO for its excellent highway manners and comfort. The entry-level diesel version will be efficient too, however if you don't mind opting for the turbo-petrol, you will get reasonably well-loaded mid-variants with many modern features.
Moreover, both engines are smooth and refined, and both deliver punchy performance, similar to your diesel Swift. Alternatively, you could consider a Maruti Suzuki Brezza for a fuss-free ownership experience.

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is an off-road vehicle and doesn't make for an ideal city vehicle. While small in size, the Jimny has a large turning circle, the steering is on the heavier side (which means it'll need more effort), and the ride isn't the comfiest you can get for the money. Fuel economy is also not exceptional for this size of vehicle. However, your daily commute of 6-8 km is short enough to overlook many of these lesser aspects of a Jimny. It's an undoubtedly charming vehicle that stands out from the crowd.
Alternatively, you could consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, which is a comfier, more practical and easier to live with compact SUV from Maruti Suzuki.
