Lacks road presence of rivals
Up front, the new nose grabs attention with a larger air dam, a uniquely angled, chrome-free grille in anodised gun-metal grey, and new fog lamps tucked into the bumper. The new, slimmer LED headlights add bling, and thereโs a front camera in the grille for the 360-degree parking assist. Along the side, diamond-cut alloys, square arches, and a contrast grey roof stand out. The profile remains sharp, while at the rear, new tail-lights, and an electric tailgate close round things off.

The biggest change is inside the cabin, where ruggedness makes way for sophistication and luxury. Everythingโs new apart from the seatsโthereโs a fresh dash, new door pads, a massive touchscreen, a digital instrument panel, a new steering wheel and a redesigned centre console. Chrome and piano black accents elevate the cabin, and quality levels are superb. The console now has wireless charging, USB ports, and a new metal toggle for 4WD functions. The front seats remain comfy, now with power adjustment, memory and cooling. Rear space is generous, with supportive seats, good legroom and theatre-style seating. The rear vents also get a stylish piano black finish. Though roomy, rivals still offer better width for three passengers in the back.
7.0
The Compass is now available only with the 170hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine that can be had with automatic and manual gearboxes, in 4x2 and 4x4 forms. The 1.4-turbo petrol offered earlier has been discontinued and so has the off-road focused Trailhawk variant. The diesel feels gravelly at low revs, but delivers a smooth, linear surge when you press on. It revs to 5,000rpm, feels quick, and does 0-100kph in 10.3sec. The automatic gearbox is slightly quicker but still relaxed on downshifts, and there are no paddle shifters either.
7.0
While we havenโt subjected the Compass to our real-world efficiency tests, Jeep claims that the diesel manual 4x2 does 17.3kpl, the diesel auto 4x2 does 16.2kpl, while the diesel auto 4x4 returns 15.3kpl.
6.0
Mechanically unchanged, the Compass remains one of the best to drive. It handles bad roads brilliantly, with slightly stiff springs that smooth things out at speed. The ride is flat and composed, and itโs light and easy in the city. Around corners, it feels impressively poised and confidence-inspiring.
8.0
Central to the new interior is the massive 10.1-inch U-Connect touchscreen with a tablet-like vibe. Itโs bright, sharp, super responsive, and packed with featuresโconnected tech, Jeep Life app functions, wireless Apple CarPlay, and over-the-air updates. You also get eight-way powered seats with memory, cooled seats, a panoramic double-pane sunroof, wireless phone charger, digital instrument cluster and dual-zone climate control, all adding to the premium, tech-laden experience. Safety kit includes 6 airbags, a 360-degree parking camera, traction control, hill-ascent and descent control and more.
8.0
Priced between Rs 18.99-30.33 lakh (ex-showroom), the 2021 Compass is expensive, especially the fully-loaded Model S. Itโs not the roomiest, the auto โbox isnโt the quickest, and engine refinement could be better. Still, it delivers strong performance, superb ride-handling, a robust build, and a plush, high-quality cabin that feels premiumโmaking it a solid all-rounder worth considering.

โข1dI am a retired person and currently own a Jeep Compass Limited Plus diesel manual, which I am planning to replace. My driving is about 5% in Chennai city and the rest on highways. Once every two months, I go on long road trips, mainly on highways and rural roads. Most of the time, it will be just me and my wife, with occasionally two additional passengers. I am considering the diesel Kia Seltos or Mahindra 7XO within a โน16-18 lakh on-road budget. Kindly suggest which vehicle and model would be most suitable for my needs.

Autocar India
For your usage, which is mostly highway driving with occasional rural roads and long trips, the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel manual is the better fit. It offers a more relaxed and effortless driving experience, especially over long distances. An important point in your case is what you are upgrading from. Your Jeep Compass diesel uses a 2.0-litre engine, and moving to the Kia Seltos diesel, which has a smaller 1.5-litre engine, will not feel like an upgrade in terms of performance. It will feel adequate, but not significantly stronger than what you are used to.The XUV 7XO, on the other hand, also uses a larger 2.0-litre diesel engine, and despite being a bigger car, it will feel like a proper step up. You will notice stronger pulling power, more effortless highway cruising and better overall performance. It also feels more stable and composed at speed, which suits your kind of long-distance driving. Refinement levels are also good, making it a comfortable car for extended journeys. The Seltos diesel is easier to drive in the city and feels more compact and user-friendly, but on highways and rough rural roads, it does not feel as robust or as planted as the 7XO.One important point is the budget. The 7XO diesel variants may go slightly above your Rs 18 lakh on-road range, depending on the variant and location, so you will need to check exact pricing.

โข2wHello Team, I'm currently driving a Figo 1.5 Diesel, which I've driven 1.50L km since I purchased it in 2016. I'm planning on a bigger SUV, and as a diesel fan, I'm left with few options. I'm confused between the XUV7XO and the Jeep Compass (both automatic). Undoubtedly, the XUV700 beats the Compass in many aspects. I'm attracted to the Compass for its unique road presence and its reputation as a driver's car. However, I'm concerned about its poor mileage and service cost, as heard in some reviews. I need your detailed guidance.

Autocar India
Between the Mahindra XUV 7XO and the Jeep Compass, the XUV 7XO makes more sense overall. It is a larger SUV with a more spacious cabin and will feel like a proper upgrade from your Figo in terms of comfort and practicality. If effortless performance is important to you, the XUV 7XO is the easier choice. Despite its size, the diesel engine delivers strong and relaxed performance, and it is also more refined than the diesel engine in the Compass. It is worth noting that neither of these SUVs is particularly impressive in terms of fuel efficiency, but the XUV 7XO still offers a good balance of performance and usability for long-distance driving. The Jeep Compass has its own charm and feels premium inside and out. It is also known for its driving manners. However, considering its higher purchase price, it will naturally be more expensive to run and maintain as well, which is something you need to keep in mind.

โข3wI own a 2017 Skoda Yeti from the last batch, which has completed 1,30,000 km on the odometer. It has been very well maintained, and I have recently done a major service, including the replacement of the timing belt and water pump. However, I have started feeling the urge to upgrade. Would it be a good idea to upgrade to a new car under โน35 lakh, preferably a diesel automatic, considering my daily running of around 80 km on the highway? Or would it make more sense to retain the Yeti for a few more years?

Autocar India
We understand your love for your Skoda Yeti. It's a superbly engineered car which is very well suited to Indian conditions. Your car with over 1,30,000km on the odometer would likely be the most used Yeti in India! While care and periodic maintenance will keep the Yeti running, issues are bound to crop up every now and then. Hence, there is a case for a new vehicle. The best bet in your budget is the Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel-AT in fully loaded AX7 T form. It's got a strong diesel engine, smooth gearbox, and, as someone used to a Yeti, you'll appreciate the ride and handling balance too. The XUV 7XO is also packed with lots of tech and features, which really make it feel like a good value even at its price.Alternatively, you could consider the Jeep Compass, which, like your Yeti, comes across as a solidly engineered product. It has been around for quite some time now, but there's a toughness that shines through, and ride and handling are also really good. The 9-speed gearbox dulls some of the engine's performance, though. The Compass is also not very large for its price - something that also worked against the Yeti.

โข4wIs buying a Jeep Compass diesel automatic a good decision, especially considering that the company is offering an assured buyback option of 60 percent after 3 years or 30,000 km and 55 percent after 4 years or 40,000 km?

Autocar India
Several more affordable SUVs on sale are far more modern, refined, comfortable and with better performance than the Compass, which makes Jeep's pricing hard to justify. Yes, the Jeep is an excellent long-distance cruiser; it is well-equipped, too, and if you are absolutely smitten by the Jeep Compass, the attractive buyback plan is something you could opt for. However, if you are not a die-hard Jeep fan and are open to options, you could consider a Mahindra XUV 7XO or Tata Harrier instead.

โข12wI am considering buying the Jeep Compass diesel AT model S 4x2 in January 2026. Should I buy it or not? If not, what other options should I consider in a similar segment? I prefer a compact SUV with strong performance and good safety.

Autocar India
The Jeep Compass was an excellent offering a few years ago; however, there are way better options in the market now. The Mahindra XUV 7XO, as an example, is smoother, more refined and significantly more spacious. Its ride and handling balance is also excellent. Additionally, for similar or even lower money than the Compass, the XUV 7XO offers the flexibility of three-row seating, which makes it an incredible value for money. If you want something that is relatively more compact, the Tata Sierra is worth considering. It has a similar character to the Compass but is more modern, better equipped and more affordable.

โข13wI have been using my Jeep Compass Limited manual edition for the last 7 years. My daily usage is 50 km a day in the city and occasional highway journeys. I want a robust SUV with an automatic diesel engine and advanced safety features. My budget is between 25-45 lakhs. Please advise.

Autocar India
Check out the MG Gloster. The large 7-seater feels like a considerable step up from your Jeep Compass (or indeed its larger sibling, the Meridian) and comes with a smooth yet strong diesel engine and a smooth 8-speed automatic gearbox. And though it is large, its light controls make it manoeuvrable enough in the city. This MG car also comes with a long list of features, which includes safety features like an ADAS suite, but that's in the higher variants, so you might have to increase your budget slightly for that.

โข13wHi, I currently own a 2018 Baleno purchased in January 2019 and am now looking to upgrade. I am considering either a four-year-old Jeep Compass Petrol DCT or a demo Skoda Kylaq Prestige AT, both priced similarly. If I choose the Jeep, I plan to upgrade again before 2028 and get a bigger vehicle. My driving is mostly on highways, covering around 6,000-7,000 km annually. Please help me choose.

Autocar India
The Jeep Compass and the Skoda Kylaq are a few segments apart, but priced similarly in the used market, we understand your confusion. Both cars have very good highway manners, and in that sense, you would be happy in either. If your highway trips also involve weekend holiday destinations in places which involve some level of off-road trails, then go with the Compass; if not, you'll be just fine with the Skoda Kylaq, which should also prove to be a bit more reliable in the long run.

โข14wI am planning to buy a reliable SUV with the highest safety ratings. I have always loved the Jeep Compass, but my mind is now inclined toward the Tata Sierra after its launch. My other dilemma is that my parents want a 7-seater and Iโm confused. I donโt mind a 7-seater, but I mostly drive on narrow roads in Chennai and think a mid-size SUV might be more suitable. Should I wait for any upcoming car? Kindly suggest a vehicle.

Autocar India
We agree, Tata Sierra will be a good fit for driving in narrow city lanes. While the crash test ratings are not out yet, going by Tata Motorsโ recent track record, it is expected to score well on safety. The Sierra is also well equipped, offers a spacious cabin, and comes with multiple powertrain options. The one to go for is the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, which is a refined unit. The Jeep Compass currently on sale in India has not received any significant updates in recent times. As a result, the interior now feels dated, especially when viewed alongside newer rivals.

โข14wI currently own a 2018 Jeep Compass 2.0 diesel manual. I am now looking for a comfortable petrol or hybrid automatic SUV that can match the driving dynamics of the Compass. I drive around 30 km daily in the city and love driving. Please suggest suitable options.

Autocar India
If you are looking for a petrol or hybrid automatic SUV that is as engaging to drive as your Jeep Compass, you will have to compromise on the comfort front. The only SUVs that are comparable to the Compass in terms of driving pleasure are the Skoda Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun, but they aren't as big or as comfortable as the Compass. The Skoda Kushaq is due for an update very soon, while the Volkswagen Taigun can be had in a 1.5 turbo-petrol-manual combination, unlike the Skoda. If you are willing to compromise on the driving pleasure front, the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are the most comfortable options in the segment.

โข16wI am planning to upgrade from an XUV700 to a Jeep Compass. Will it truly be an upgrade, and does it make sense? Is it worth it?

Autocar India
Moving to a Jeep Compass from an Mahindra XUV 700 will definitely not be an upgrade. The XUV 700 is more powerful, better equipped, a lot more spacious and practical and nicer to drive. The only area where the Compass has an advantage is while off-roading where the suspension performs well and the dimensions help traverse tough terrain. Apart from that one plus point, you will not find the Compass as an upgrade to the XUV 700.
