I am planning to buy a reliable SUV with the highest safety ratings. I have always loved the Jeep Compass, but my mind is now inclined toward the Tata Sierra after its launch. My other dilemma is that my parents want a 7-seater and I’m confused. I don’t mind a 7-seater, but I mostly drive on narrow roads in Chennai and think a mid-size SUV might be more suitable. Should I wait for any upcoming car? Kindly suggest a vehicle.

We agree, Tata Sierra will be a good fit for driving in narrow city lanes. While the crash test ratings are not out yet, going by Tata Motors’ recent track record, it is expected to score well on safety.

The Sierra is also well equipped, offers a spacious cabin, and comes with multiple powertrain options. The one to go for is the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, which is a refined unit.

The Jeep Compass currently on sale in India has not received any significant updates in recent times. As a result, the interior now feels dated, especially when viewed alongside newer rivals.

I am looking to buy a new 7-seater EV and am confused between the XEV 9S and the Harrier EV. I plan to go on long trips and am unsure whether to choose an EV or an ICE vehicle. I also prefer a car without a sunroof. Please advise.

Between the two EV options you have shortlisted, only the Mahindra XEV 9S gets a seven-seating configuration. It is good to drive, has a respectable real-world highway range, and its entry-level variants are great value for money. Do note that a panoramic sunroof is available across all variants of the Mahindra XEV9S.Another impressive 7-seater is the Kia Carens Clavis EV. While it is more compact and doesn’t have the same road presence as the XEV9S, and its range is lower, as a seven-seater, it remains an excellent, no-nonsense choice.

My daily commute ranges between 40 and 50 km. Which EV would you suggest between the MG Windsor EV and the Tata Punch EV, or should I wait for the Tata Sierra EV? I am 6 ft 3 inches tall and need good legroom.

The MG Windsor EV is not only a superior electric vehicle but is also significantly roomier than the Tata Punch EV. The MG's added space is something you will really appreciate, making it the easy pick of the two models on your shortlist. However, if you don't mind the wait, the Tata Sierra EV could be the best pick for you. It's larger than the Windsor EV and promises more headroom, legroom, and shoulder room. Final specifications for the Sierra EV aren't out yet, but we expect it to be more powerful and capable of delivering a longer range than the Windsor EV.

I am looking for an automatic car that will mostly be used for long-distance leisure travel from Delhi. It should seat 4 comfortably and have enough space for luggage for long trips. Our current S-Cross petrol automatic would be perfect if it only had slightly more boot space for longer trips. The Innova is too big, and we don't need third-row seats. My budget is up to 50L, but reliability and fuss-free ownership are major considerations, so we would prefer to avoid high-maintenance cars.

If you don't mind the sedan body style, you should really consider the Toyota Camry Hybrid. In your budget of Rs 50 lakh, it is one of the best options across segments and body styles. It is spacious and comfortable for four, with incredible refinement, superb fuel economy, and, above all else, it is reliable, fuss-free, and inexpensive to maintain. This Toyota car has a big boot too, so transporting luggage should not be a problem. While there are SUVs in this price bracket, none match the Camry’s combination of refinement and long-term reliability.
