I currently own a Skoda Kushaq Petrol AT. Everything is fine except the mileage. I am getting only around 10-13kpl with E20 petrol. My daily running is around 100 km. Should I buy a diesel car or an electric car?

With a daily running of around 100 km, fuel efficiency becomes a major factor in ownership costs. The Skoda Kushaq petrol automatic is a good car, but the 10-13kpl you are seeing is typical for a turbo petrol automatic, especially with E20 petrol. At this usage, a diesel or a strong hybrid makes far more sense.

If you do regular highway runs, a diesel is still the most practical and cost-effective solution. The Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel automatic would be the recommendation here. It is a strong highway car, comfortable, spacious and the diesel engine will deliver significantly better fuel efficiency than your Kushaq. Diesel running costs will be far lower over your kind of mileage. If that is out of your budget, something smaller like a Kia Seltos diesel, while not as powerful, is even more efficient.

If your usage is mostly city a strong hybrid could be a better solution. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris is the most practical and cost-effective option. It is well priced, has a proven track record and will dramatically reduce your running costs. The strong hybrid is better suited to the city, where it is more likely to run on its electric motor than use the engine and deliver the better mileage.

I have been driving the Skoda Slavia, and there's one issue that I think every potential buyer should know about. The clutch is much heavier than expected. In city traffic, where you constantly need to press the clutch, my left leg gets tired very quickly. Compared to cars from brands like Hyundai and many other manufacturers, whose clutches feel much lighter and smoother, the Slavia's clutch requires noticeably more effort. If you drive mostly on highways, this may not be a major issue. But if your daily commute involves heavy city traffic, I strongly recommend taking a long test drive in similar conditions before making your decision. This is just my personal experience, but I felt it was important to share so that prospective buyers can make an informed choice.

I've got a Kushaq 1.5 DSG and I get about 15-16 kmpl on the highways and 8-9 kmpl in the city. If yours is the 1.0L variant, try to use the cruise control as much as possible. The TSI likes to be in higher gears, above 50-60 kmph but below 90 kmph to give you good mileage. The only time I got 13 on the highway was when the car was being driven at speeds around 100 for long stretches. Somehow, this demands more fuel, which I think is what's happening for you as well.

EV is a good option. You can look at MG or Volvo.. or any foreign brand....

If you have charging infrastructure and if your commute is only within city limits, then go for EV. If the commute is on highways, go for Nexon Diesel, Kia Seltos Diesel, XUV 700 diesel.

Needless to say.. just go for a EV with atleaste 400 km plus range.. you will save over Rs 300000, on fuel bills annually provided u charge at home.

Hi, I used to drive the 2.0-litre diesel Jetta, but had to sell it after six years due to recurring repair issues. I then switched to a Creta 1.4 Turbo automatic. I currently drive a Grand i10 Manual petrol and am now planning to buy a new compact SUV that is comfortable, fuel efficient and has low maintenance.
