Hi, I currently own a 2018 Baleno purchased in January 2019 and am now looking to upgrade. I am considering either a four-year-old Jeep Compass Petrol DCT or a demo Skoda Kylaq Prestige AT, both priced similarly. If I choose the Jeep, I plan to upgrade again before 2028 and get a bigger vehicle. My driving is mostly on highways, covering around 6,000-7,000 km annually. Please help me choose.

The Jeep Compass and the Skoda Kylaq are a few segments apart, but priced similarly in the used market, we understand your confusion. Both cars have very good highway manners, and in that sense, you would be happy in either.
If your highway trips also involve weekend holiday destinations in places which involve some level of off-road trails, then go with the Compass; if not, you'll be just fine with the Skoda Kylaq, which should also prove to be a bit more reliable in the long run.

I want to upgrade from my existing Brezza diesel. My budget is around ₹20-23 lakh, and I am considering the XEV 9S or Tata Sierra. Please advise whether I should go for an EV or stick with a petrol or diesel vehicle like the Harrier or Safari. My monthly running is about 2,000 km, with roughly half of it on highways.

While both the electric cars you have shortlisted are capable, they will both be outside of your budget. Besides, given that half your driving - while not excessive - is on the highway, we would recommend sticking with a petrol or diesel car for now.The Tata Harrier and Safari are good cars, and have just been updated with Tata Motors' new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo petrol engine. With 170hp and 280Nm, it's powerful enough, if not outright strong in feel, and impressively smooth and refined. While the diesel versions are also good options, the new petrol versions will suit your budget better. The Tata Safari and Harrier are spacious and comfortable vehicles with long equipment lists and premium-feeling interiors.

Hi, I am confused between the new Kia Seltos and the new Tata Harrier petrol. My monthly driving is around 500 km. I am looking for an automatic turbo-petrol car with good driving quality and low maintenance. My budget is ₹25 lakh.

The new Kia Seltos uses the previous car's 1.5-litre turbo direct injection petrol engine and is coupled to a 7-speed dual clutch autobox. The powertrain works well, delivering on performance and refinement. The Tata Harrier petrol uses Tata Motors' newly launched 1.5-litre turbo direct injection engine, which is also refined and delivers a good drive experience. Thus, in this regard, both cars deliver well; however, since you are looking for a car with low maintenance, we would recommend the Kia Seltos as Kia's are known to be generally more reliable and with the Tata engine being brand new, its service record is yet to be ascertained.

I am planning to buy an electric car with 80% city use and 20% highway driving. My maximum budget is ₹30 lakh. Should I buy one now or wait?

There are some interesting electric cars expected to be launched in the next few months, so if you can wait, you will get a wider choice. Cars like Honda's mid-size electric SUV and the Tata Sierra EV will arrive in the later half of 2026.If you cannot wait until then, you could look at the Hyundai Creta Electric, which is a good all-rounder and will do well in the city and on your occasional highway runs too.
