I have a 2011 BMW 5 Series and am planning to upgrade to a performance sedan. I am interested in the BMW M340i, but am not sure if it will last another 10 years because of E20 fuel, and my budget is โน1 crore - which car should I choose?
All new cars sold after April 2025 are engineered to run on E20, so you do not need to worry about longโterm reliability on that front. With that concern out of the way, you can confidently go ahead with the BMW M340i.
It is a fantastic everyday performance sedan and will put a big smile on your face every time you drive it.

My daily drive is around 25-30 km in Gurgaon. I'm looking to buy a luxury car in the 40-60 lakh budget. I've shortlisted the BMW iX1 as it offers great value with Delhi registration and low maintenance, and running costs. Are there any other options I should consider, or any other downsides of iX1 that I should be aware of? I do understand that the resale value of electric cars is a bit uncertain.
You are on the right track in considering the BMW iX1, which we honestly think you should not think twice about and buy. The iX1 is an exceptional value offering excellent space, especially at the rear, good features and a premium feel. It is very enjoyable to drive too, and the decent range it gives means you wonโt have to charge it too frequently if your usage is in the city.
We assume you have the possibility of installing a home charger because that is a must to ensure a worry-free ownership experience. Yes, the resale value of EVs is bad, but we feel that is compensated for by the easy driving experience an electric car gives.

I am planning to buy a BMW M340i for long-distance trips into wildlife reserves, as I have a strong interest in wildlife. I have two concerns, one is the E20 petrol. The M340i engine is a high-compression engine and needs high-octane fuel. With E20 petrol now available across the country, will this cause any issues for my engine? The other worry is the low tyre profile on bad roads, which may lead to punctures. Do give me your best advice.
On E20 fuel, you donโt have to worry at all. In fact, you should be happy because the base octane rating for E20 fuel has jumped from 91 octane to a minimum of 95 octane or even higher. Hence, this suits the 11.0:1 compression ratio of the M340iโs B58 engine, and now, instead of hunting for high-octane fuel, you can use fuel anywhere, as you are now assured of 95 octane.
A bigger concern are the low profile tyres, which are staggered with 225/40 R19 in front and an even lower 255/35 R19 at the back. This could be a problem on bad roads, where the tyres could be vulnerable to impact damage.
One way to protect the tyres against punctures, but not guaranteed, is to pump up the tyre pressure by about 3-4PSI to make the sidewalls stiffer. This reduces the flex in the sidewalls and makes them more resistant to impact damage, but quite honestly, the BMW M340i is not a car we would take into the jungle!

I have driven my car for around 35,000 km. Should I retain it or sell it and upgrade to a new car?
35,000 kms is not a very high mileage at all, for any car. So if the car is running fine and you are happy with its performance, we would not recommend selling it purely based on its mileage covered.
However, if you are still keen on a change to a newer car, you could look at the new Mercedes GLC or the BMW X3.

I own a V-Strom 650 with about 50,000 km since 2022. The bike is great, but it has a buzz and vibrations around 100 km/h that disappear after 120 km/h, yet I typically cruise around 100 km/h. I want to upgrade to a 1000cc+ bike for highway touring with a seat height under 835 mm. I am considering the Kawasaki Versys 1100 (2026), BMW XR, and the BMW R 1300 GSA. My priorities are long-term ownership, riding comfort on Indian roads (including routes like Spiti), ease of maintenance, and strong road presence. Please advise.
Between the three options you've considered, we'd advise picking between the Kawasaki Versys 1100 and the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure. These are powerful, comfortable, refined long-distance touring machines which will serve you well, although neither is going to be affordable to maintain.
The BMW S 1000 XR is a sportbike on stilts, and the 1000cc four-cylinder engine from BMW isn't the smoothest motor, so we'd advise you to look elsewhere.
If you're open to looking outside the ADV bike spectrum, the Ninja 1100SX makes a solid case as a road-going touring bike as long as you're mindful of the ground clearance over bad roads.
And if you're not hung up on having a '1000cc+' bike only, the Honda XL750 Transalp is a wonderful road-touring machine. It is friendly, approachable, refined and will be by far the most affordable to buy (even if you put the Africa Twin's tubeless rims, extra luggage and protective accessories) and maintain of the lot.
Try to take test rides of all the bikes listed here before making a decision.

I am planning to buy a luxury EV and am confused between the EQS 450, BMW iX xDrive 50, Macan Electric, and Audi e-tron SUV. This car will be for my wife, who is constantly on the move and meets HNIs regularly. The car will be chauffeur-driven. My priorities are: 1. Image 2. Range 3. Resale 4. Comfort 5. Tech Please suggest which one to buy.
All are excellent choices in this price range, but we can narrow it down. All of them pack large batteries and have good range, so that is the least of your worries.
The Porsche Macan EV is high on image value, but as a primarily chauffeur-driven car, it's not great, with ride comfort and back seat space not as good as the rest.
The Audi Q8 e-tron has arguably the best back seat and ride comfort of the lot, but it is dated now and is the lowest on flash value, and looks understated like a regular Audi SUV, and isn't packing the latest tech.
The BMW iX xDrive 50 EV is an excellent all-rounder that's powerful and great to drive, but while quirky and interesting, it doesn't quite have the presence to make a strong statement.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 450, then, should be your pick. It offers good space and comfort in the second row, excellent range, great image and presence, and loads of tech, including Mercedes' much vaunted 'hyperscreen' dashboard. Resale value is still a question mark with EVs, but Mercedes is trying to change that perception with buyback schemes on its electric cars, so be sure to check those out.

Which is the best car around โน75โ80 lakh - preferably petrol - for a daily commute of about 60 km?
The BMW 330Li would be a good option to consider in this price point. It has a refined and powerful six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that offers an excellent driving experience, but at the same time, the long wheelbase allows it to have fantastic legroom at the rear.
If you want to be chauffeur-driven but also enjoy driving by yourself, the 330Li will offer the best of both worlds.

I have shortlisted the Mercedes AMG GLC 43 Coupe and the BMW M340i. My yearly driving will be about 8,000 km. I want a proper โwowโ factor in the car. Which would be the better buy?
The Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe AMG 43 is substantially more expensive than a BMW M340i, and it certainly delivers the 'wow' factor that you're looking for, in terms of its design both outside and inside. So there's no contest between the two. If you're comfortable spending around Rs 1.15 crore for a GLC Coupe, go for it.
On the other hand, while the BMW M340i won't 'wow' you in terms of its looks or interior like the AMG, its 3-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol's stonking performance will surely leave you grinning, and for about Rs 30 lakh less than the GLC Coupe, it delivers unmatched value.

I am planning to buy a luxury SUV, and my budget is between Rs 1.4 and 1.6 crore. I am mainly confused between the Range Rover Sport, Mercedes GLS, and BMW X7. Which one would be the best choice?
The Range Rover Sport is the one Iโd steer you towards. While all three SUVs are highly capable and deliver the luxury and performance youโd expect at this price point, the Range Rover Sport stands apart in a few key areas. Its design has an undeniable sense of occasion - understated yet distinctive - and it carries a level of road presence the German SUVs canโt quite match. The cabin feels properly special too, with exquisite materials, a minimalist layout and a plushness that immediately sets it apart.

Hi, I would like your advice based on my usage. I want to upgrade my garage to two city cars and one highway car. My current city car is a Swift diesel AMT with a usage of 1,200 km per month, and my highway car is a Kia Seltos with a usage of 1,000 km per month. I now want to replace both cars and get two EVs for city use, namely the Tiago EV and the Sierra EV. For highway use, I am looking at the BMW M340i because it has adaptive suspension. Do you think it is comfortable for long highway journeys? Please suggest suitable cars for my usage.
The Tiago EV is a sensible, affordable city runabout that works very well for errands and short urban commutes, and thatโs exactly how we would recommend you use it. The Tata Sierra EV, meanwhile, is still some time away โ launch is expected in 2026 โ but on paper it promises a strong combination of space, range and features, and should be priced competitively when it arrives. However, itโs too early to comment on how it will drive as we havenโt driven the production car yet.โ
The BMW M340i is a very quick, engaging sports sedan that can double up as a daily driver, and the adaptive suspension has definitely improved its usability. That said, it still feels a bit firm and always โon its toesโ, so it isnโt the most relaxed choice if you prioritise long, laid-back highway cruising.
One of our favourite sporty everyday sedans in this space is the Audi S5; it offers strong performance but with a more compliant ride and more easy-going manners, so itโs worth considering as your highway car.
