The second-generation GLA adopts a more upright, SUV-like stance, shedding the coupé-inspired profile of its predecessor. It appears larger and more assertive, thanks to a 10 cm taller roofline and stronger proportions. While still not SUV like in profile, key design elements include squared wheel arches, 19-inch wheels, and a sculpted bonnet. The upright grille features chrome pinheads, paired with adaptive LED headlamps and a wide, angular bumper on AMG Line variants. Though the rear isn’t as dramatic, it features like sectioned LED tail-lights and a wide base provide a solid presence. The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system is available only with the diesel variant.

Cabin space is notably improved, especially in the rear. Thanks to the longer wheelbase and taller roof, legroom and headroom are good even for taller passengers. Seating position remains low, which may reduce the typical SUV feel. Seats are supportive and durable but slightly firm. A pair of sunroofs add brightness, and cabin materials—like brushed aluminium and piano black inserts—give a premium feel. Entry and exit are somewhat limited by narrow rear doors, and boot space is rated at 435 litres. The space-saver tyre sits beneath the floor in a dedicated compartment, slightly reducing usable capacity.
 

Under the hood, the GLA 220d’s 190hp diesel engine delivers eager performance, paired with 400Nm of torque from just 1,600rpm. The throttle feels crisp, and the 8-speed twin-clutch gearbox responds quickly, keeping the car in the powerband for uninterrupted acceleration. The GLA sprints from 0–100kph in 7.4 seconds. Chassis improvements like a stiffer frame, aluminium suspension parts, and a wider track improve driving dynamics. The 4MATIC system allows up to 30 percent torque transfer to the rear wheels in Sport mode, enhancing traction and stability under load.

The 2025 GLA 200 petrol uses a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine co-developed with Renault-Nissan. It produces 163hp at 5,500rpm and 250Nm from 1,620rpm. Mated to a 7-speed DCT, it powers the front wheels only. It offers smooth city driving with responsive mid-range power. Its 1.3L turbo engine delivers 163hp and 250Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Acceleration is nowhere near as strong as the torquey diesel and the engine often feels strained. 
 

The diesel-powered GLA 220d 4MATIC offers an ARAI-certified mileage of 18.9 km/l. With its 50-liter fuel tank, it can achieve a theoretical range of up to 945 kilometers. Select diesel trims benefit from mild hybrid tech that assists acceleration and reduces fuel usage in urban driving. Efficiency remains one of its strong suits, particularly for long-range travel. The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 petrol variant delivers an ARAI-certified mileage of 17.4 km/l.

The GLA handles corners with confidence, aided by precise steering and responsive brakes. Body roll is noticeable but well-controlled, and the SUV offers a dynamic feel when driven spiritedly. In Comfort mode, city driving is relaxed, with light steering and smooth progress. Ride quality is generally good, deep road undulations can cause noticeable thuds.
 

Unique features include kinetic seats that subtly adjust pressure points, and an intelligent MBUX system that reduces fan noise during calls or voice prompts. LED mood lighting is customizable, and the cabin supports connected tech like Alexa and Google voice assistants, enabling remote functions like pre-cooling. Safety equipment includes seven airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Blind Spot Assist, and Lane Departure Warning. ISOFIX mounts and tyre pressure monitoring also contribute to safety. Missing features include ventilated seats and only some variants get keyless entry availability. All USB ports are Type C.
 

The GLA 220d is priced at ₹54.5 lakh (ex-showroom), and the GLA 220d 4MATIC at ₹56.9 lakh. It offers improved space, stronger performance, and upscale features, positioning itself as a well-rounded option in the compact luxury SUV segment.
