I am planning to buy my first luxury car and am confused between the Audi Q3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA 200d. My daily commute is around 25 km, with long drives about once a quarter. My main requirements are strong road presence and a good driving experience.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA 200d feels more modern, with striking styling and rich interiors, compared to the Q3, which now feels dated. However, the Audi Q3 is overall a better choice for your daily commute because the 2-litre TFSI petrol is very smooth, the ride is better than the GLA’s, and the cabin is a bit more spacious too.
One downside is that Audi cars don’t have as good resale value as Mercedes-Benz cars, but that is compensated for by the great deals you get on Audis today. You can bargain hard with both the Mumbai dealers for a good price.

Hi, I am confused between buying the Kia Seltos diesel, which I love for its interior and power and which gives around 15 km/l mileage, and the Toyota Hyryder, which involves a slight design compromise but offers 22+ km/l mileage. My daily running is around 70 km, including both city traffic and highway cruising. Also, please share if there is even the slightest possibility of a Kia Seltos hybrid coming next year, as I would be happy to wait.

Your usage is high, and the hybrid will use far less fuel in city traffic while staying calm and smooth. It pulls away on electric power at low speeds, so stop-go driving feels quiet and easy.You like the Seltos for its cabin and stronger shove, and that is fair. The Seltos diesel feels stronger when you press the throttle for quick passes, and its cabin does look and feel richer. If most of your 70 km is open highway and you really value that strong pull and the Kia car interior, the Seltos diesel automatic is still a solid pick.On a Kia Seltos hybrid: Kia does intend to introduce a hybrid, but timing is not yet decided as they are trying to localise components. We estimate it could arrive in 2027, but that could change. For your mix of city and highway, the Hyryder strong-hybrid lines up best with what you need right now.

I am planning to buy an SUV that is safe, has good driving dynamics, is comfortable, and economical in terms of maintenance. My driving will be 70% city and 30% highway, with a monthly running of less than 500 km. I am confused between the Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun. I am very interested in German cars but would like your suggestion.

With a majority of city use, short monthly running, clear focus on safety, driving dynamics and comfort, we will suggest the Volkswagen Taigun 1.0 TSI automatic or equivalent Skoda Kushaq. You will like it for three reasons. First, it feels sure-footed and is a pleasure to drive. Second, the 1.0 turbo petrol is smooth and quick enough for gaps in city traffic, and the automatic here is a regular torque-converter unit, which means gears changes are very smooth. It also handles slow, stop-start roads without fuss. Third, safety is strong - the Taigun and Kushaq have a 5-star crash test rating and are well equipped with safety features. A couple of trade-offs to note. The back seat is not very wide, so three adults will be snug. And the ride at very low speeds, can feel a bit firm over sharp bumps. Service costs are a bit higher than Honda car, but VW now offers long warranty and service packs that keep bills predictable, so do ask your dealer about it.

Could you please help me decide between the Tata Sierra Pure+ variant and the Mahindra XUV 3XO RevX A as my first car? My priorities are comfort, safety, a good power-to-weight ratio, and strong road presence.

As a first car, from your two shortlisted choices, we recommend the Mahindra XUV 3XO RevX A. While the larger Tata Sierra is certainly better on road presence, in every other aspect, the XUV is a better fit. Its more compact dimensions make it much easier to drive, which is a worthwhile consideration for your first car. It is very comfortable, including in the rear seat and being a 5-star Bharat NCAP rated car, safety is not an issue. It has a 131hp turbo-petrol engine that is the most powerful in any compact SUV. Overall, this Mahindra car has an excellent power-to-weight ratio and is fun to drive too. Moreover, its price is around Rs 3 lakh less than the Sierra Pure+. The Tata Sierra Pure+ comes with only the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine. While it's smooth enough, thanks to the heavy Sierra kerb weight, its power-to-weight ratio is nowhere as good as the XUV 3XO's. Also, the Pure+ variant of the Sierra, aside from being more expensive, won't be as well equipped as the 3XO RevX A. Overall, for your needs, the Mahindra is the better be
