•1wHello sir, my name is Dr. Ashish Lashkari, and despite being in the healthcare industry, my passion for automobiles is no less than my profession. I currently drive a Jeep Compass Petrol Automatic, which I purchased in 2018 and have driven around 85,000 km since then. Now, I want to upgrade to something better, and my options are a used Mercedes, a BMW, or the new Mahindra XEV 9e. My usage is around 25% city driving and 75% highway driving with family. Petrol is no longer my preferred choice, as the poor fuel efficiency of the Jeep has been quite frustrating. Please suggest what would be the best option for me. Thank you so much in advance.

If you are looking for a good used luxury car, check out the Mercedes GLA or the BMW X1. Stick with the current generation models and look for the one that is around 4 to 5 years old. You can consider buying from organized pre owned car sellers like Spinny. You may pay a bit more than the open market but you will get cars that are thoroughly checked and with warranty too. If you are looking at the Mahindra XEV 9E, make sure you have a provision to charge it at home or your place of work as relying solely on the public network isn't really feasible. Also, if your highway runs are more than 350 odd kms and involve mountain roads, you might have to stop for a charge too. So make sure your route has plenty of charging options.

•10wHi, I am planning to purchase a new car within a budget of ₹50-60 lakh. I really like the Audi A4, but I am concerned about its ground clearance of around 165 mm, which may be slightly low for Indian road conditions. I have also looked at the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine. Could you suggest other cars in this price range that I should consider? I am mainly looking for a good value-for-money luxury car with strong features and overall ownership value.

Autocar India
All the cars you have shortlisted, being sedans, have similar ground clearance, and for all practical purposes, the Audi A4 is no worse off than the other two. In fact, in our testing, it was the Mercedes-Benz A-Class limousine that required the most care over speed breakers. If ground clearance is a high priority, consider an SUV like the Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3 or BMW X1. However, if you want to stick with a sedan, the Audi A4 is the most value for money. Not only is it larger and more spacious than the others, it also has the most comfortable suspension. What's more, its 190hp, 2.0-litre turbo petrol is larger and more powerful than the engines on offer in the 2 Series and A-Class, and the most refined among them too. Given your budget, however, you could even consider an Audi A6; check if your local Audi dealer is offering any discounts, and it could fit within the outer limits of your budget.

•22wI am planning to buy my first luxury car and am confused between the Audi Q3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA 200d. My daily commute is around 25 km, with long drives about once a quarter. My main requirements are strong road presence and a good driving experience.

Autocar India
The Mercedes-Benz GLA 200d feels more modern, with striking styling and rich interiors, compared to the Q3, which now feels dated. However, the Audi Q3 is overall a better choice for your daily commute because the 2-litre TFSI petrol is very smooth, the ride is better than the GLA’s, and the cabin is a bit more spacious too.One downside is that Audi cars don’t have as good resale value as Mercedes-Benz cars, but that is compensated for by the great deals you get on Audis today. You can bargain hard with both the Mumbai dealers for a good price.

•24wI am looking to upgrade to an entry-level luxury SUV, and I am confused between the GLA 220d 4Matic, the BMW X1, and the old Audi Q3 Sportback. My usage is mainly city driving with occasional highway use, so mileage is important, but so are plush interiors, comfort, and driving experience with good value for money. Should I also wait for the new generation Q3 to be launched in India? I am not entirely sold on its exterior cosmetic changes of the global variant. Should I also wait for any other launches?

Autocar India
The Mercedes-Benz GLA220d will be your best bet, for its punchy yet efficient diesel engine, and its plush interiors, which add to the overall feel-good factor. It is also nice to drive, and even though it is a touch pricey, it delivers a luxurious experience which you expect at this price.

•25wI’m considering whether to buy a used car or a new car after driving my current vehicle for 10 more years. I’m thinking about getting a BMW or Audi hatchback in good condition. What are your thoughts?

Autocar India
You will not find many used BMW and Audi cars (hatchbacks) in India because very few were ever sold.BMW did offer the 1 Series hatchback for a short time, but the numbers were still limited.Instead, it’s better to explore their small SUVs like the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1. If you are open to Mercedes-Benz cars, you can also check the A-Class or B-Class hatchbacks, though these too are rare, or consider the Mercedes GLA. When buying a premium used car, though, make sure you buy from the brand itself, as they all have an approved used program. You can also buy one from a very reputable reseller, and if things go wrong, it can be very expensive to fix.
