If you usually drive yourself, the Mercedes-Benz CLA EV is a stylish electric sedan that's got a refined and efficient powertrain promising over 500km of real-world range. Additionally, its ride comfort and handling balance are sorted, and the cabin features the latest AI-enabled tech.Do keep in mind, its rear seat is cramped, the seating position is knees-up even at the front, and it misses sun shades for the sunroof and rear windows, and ventilated seats. Alternatively, if your usage is mixed - self and chauffeur-driven, the BMW iX1 is the better bet. It drives well, has a higher seat and better ground clearance, and even though its cabin might not feel as special as the CLA's. But, the build and fit-finish still feels solid, its back seat is more spacious, and then you also get the badge and safety you expect at this price.

If you're already leaning towards the Tesla Model Y L, you should go for it, as, for the money, it's one of the best EVs out there. At this time, we're yet to review the L, but the improvements it promises over the standard-wheelbase models are impressive. For one, there's the additional space, captain's chairs for the second row and a usable third row, which already elevates it above most others at this price point. The already long list of features gets an upgrade with heating and ventilation in the second row, faster wireless chargers and an upgraded sound system. They've even added adaptive dampers, which should address a big criticism of the standard models - a harsh ride quality. The biggest gains, however, appear to have been to performance and range, thanks to a dual-motor setup with around 500hp, and with a 681km WLTP range, expect upwards of 500km on a full charge in the real world, as Tesla cars are known to be quite efficient. Downsides you should be aware of - the wheelbase is 150mm longer, but ground clearance has only gone up by 2mm (now 169mm), so be careful over speed breakers. And shortcomings of the old remain, like very few buttons on the interior, and a quality that doesn't feel good enough at this price range. However, we're sure you're familiar with the vehicle already, as you're already inclined towards it. Another alternative that's very appealing is the new Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric, which has an even longer range and tech that's arguably on par with Tesla. However, it is nowhere near as spacious as the Model Y L.

In this price range, you always have to choose badge versus value, as there are some exceptional executive sedans and SUVs available for the same price as entry-level cars with luxury badges on them. If you're after a luxury badge specifically, we recommend the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine, which is excellent value for money, or if you want an SUV, the Audi Q3, which is a little dated now. But offers the best overall package of performance, practicality and comfort. However, for the same money, the Toyota Camry offers far more space comfort and mileage thanks to its strong hybrid powertrain, for similar money. And similarly, the Skoda Kodiaq or Volkswagen Tayron offer far greater space, practicality and power than a similarly priced luxury-branded SUV. However, these big, seven-seat SUVs with 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines are quite thirsty and could burn a hole in your pocket at the fuel pumps. However, if you're accustomed to the running costs of an Innova Crysta 2.7 petrol, then these won't be too far off. Of all these, we recommend the Toyota Camry hybrid for its all-encompassing offering of comfort, luxury, space and mileage at this price.

All the cars you have shortlisted, being sedans, have similar ground clearance, and for all practical purposes, the Audi A4 is no worse off than the other two. In fact, in our testing, it was the Mercedes-Benz A-Class limousine that required the most care over speed breakers. If ground clearance is a high priority, consider an SUV like the Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3 or BMW X1. However, if you want to stick with a sedan, the Audi A4 is the most value for money. Not only is it larger and more spacious than the others, it also has the most comfortable suspension. What's more, its 190hp, 2.0-litre turbo petrol is larger and more powerful than the engines on offer in the 2 Series and A-Class, and the most refined among them too. Given your budget, however, you could even consider an Audi A6; check if your local Audi car dealer is offering any discounts, and it could fit within the outer limits of your budget.

Both are excellent choices, and the decision comes down to your preference. The Mercedes-Benz C 220d has a more upmarket feeling and techie cabin, with a more advanced infotainment system that is easier to use. This Mercedes-Benz car is also quite a sharp-handling sedan if you enjoy driving yourself.However, the BMW 3 Series LWB is also excellent to drive, and its longer wheelbase doesn't affect the dynamics all that much. Moreover, it is far superior in the back seat, thanks to that longer wheelbase, and so if you are chauffeur-driven, it is definitely the better choice.
