With the launch of the Countryman C, Mini has re-entered the entry-level luxury SUV space. But how well does the ‘largest’ Mini perform on paper? We compare its specifications to alternatives like the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and the Audi Q3 to find out.
Mini Countryman C vs rivals: Dimensions
Countryman C gets the most height and ground clearance
While all SUVs have similar dimensions, the BMW X1 is the longest, while the Countryman C is the tallest, and both ride the highest off the ground. Though the GLA has the shortest length, width and the smallest boot, it has the longest wheelbase. On the other hand, the Q3 has the longest width and the biggest boot, but rides lowest off the ground in this comparison. The X1 and Q3 have smaller 18-inch wheels only, while the Countryman C gets larger 19-inch rims, but the GLA is the only SUV to offer both sizes, depending on the variant.
Mini Countryman C vs rivals: Powertrain options
Only the X1 and GLA offer both petrol and diesel engines
While the Countryman C and Q3 only offer a petrol engine, the X1 and GLA can be equipped with a diesel as well. When you compare petrol engines of all SUVs, it's the Audi that comes across with the most powerful numbers, while the X1 delivers the least power. Interestingly, the Countryman C shares its underpinnings and petrol engine with the X1, but the Mini's petrol unit has a higher state of tune. The same goes when you bring diesel engines into the equation, wherein the X1 churns out lower power figures than the GLA diesel. Notably, it's the Q3 that gets AWD as standard, while the rest have FWD layouts only.
Mini Countryman C vs rivals: Price
The Mini is the second most affordable in the segment
When it comes to price in petrol guise, the Q3 is the least and most expensive, depending on the variant. The Countryman is the second most affordable here. Among the X1 and GLA in diesel guise, the latter is costlier of the two.
