Need a suggestion for an EV purchase. My driving is 95% city use. I stay in a rented apartment that has charging facilities. My maximum on-road budget is Rs 15 lakh.

Consider the Syros EV 42kWh. With a 95% city driving pattern and a budget of Rs 15 lakh, it is the most sensible choice. It is compact, easy to manoeuvre in traffic and parking, and offers better ride quality than the ICE version. Kia Syros EV also has a large boot and a decent feature set for the price. Your budget only allows for the smaller 42kWh battery; however, it should offer more than enough range for your usage. Since you have charging facilities at your apartment, you will be able to take full advantage of the low running costs and convenience of overnight charging. The Tata Nexon EV is also a good choice in this segment, but the 45kWh variant will likely exceed your budget. Overall, the Kia electric car mentioned above is a better fit for your usage and budget.

Hi, I currently live in Bengaluru and am looking to buy an automatic car for my office commute. My commute is typically around 100 km per week. Given the current ethanol situation, I am considering buying an EV. I have a charger in my apartment, and there is also a fast charger nearby. My budget is around Rs. 20 lakh. I currently drive a Volkswagen Ameo and am planning to keep it for long trips. I also tried a 2021 Tata Nexon EV, but I didn't like the cabin space. I also didn't like the design of the MG Windsor. Should I consider buying a used EV or a new EV?

Our recommendation would be the new Kia Syros EV. With a 100km/week commute, home charging and a Rs 20 lakh budget, it is the best EV for a city like Bengaluru. In your budget, you can get the HTX Plus trim with the ER (Extended Range) battery that is larger at 51.4kWh with a claimed range of over 500km. Moreover, it is compact on the outside, which makes it very easy to manoeuvre in traffic, but has a surprisingly spacious interior. Big on practicality and a good feature list make its case stronger. A used electric car only makes sense if the battery health is good and range isn't affected. Other issues like tyre and suspension wear are crucial, so buying one brand new is always a better bet.

Can I buy the MG ZS EV in 2026? I am getting the Exclusive Plus model for Rs. 18.5 lakh on-road.

The MG ZS EV has been around since 2021, and it has barely been updated since. As of today, there are far more modern, better equipped, and more efficient electric cars available in the market. So even though the pricing is attractive, we'd advise you to consider a newer car instead. For Rs. 18.5 lakh on-road, you can consider the Kia Syros EV, Vinfast VF6, Tata Curvv EV, or even the MG Windsor.

I want to buy an EV with a budget of around Rs. 20 lakh. I have shortlisted the MG Windsor Essence Pro, Tata Sierra EV Pure 63, and Hyundai Creta Electric Executive Tech. My main concerns with the Windsor Essence Pro are its laggy infotainment system and suspension. On the other hand, the Sierra EV Pure 63 and Creta Electric Executive Tech are lower variants and do not offer as many features. Which one would you recommend for my requirements?

The Tata Sierra Pure 63 would be the best choice for your budget. While it may not be as feature-rich as the MG Windsor Essence Pro, it is the better all-round MPV with a more modern platform, better ride and handling, a spacious cabin and strong real-world range. The Pure variant is also well equipped with the essentials, and features can always be added later, but the fundamentals of the car cannot. The MG Windsor Essence Pro remains excellent value for money and offers the most comprehensive feature list. However, your concerns about the laggy infotainment system and the softer suspension are valid, and if these are likely to bother you every day, they shouldn't be ignored. The Hyundai Creta Electric Executive Tech is another strong contender. It offers a refined driving experience and Hyundai's proven ownership experience, but at this price point, the lower variant feels a little too basic compared to the Sierra and Windsor.

I need an electric car with a daily commute of around 100 km. My budget is up to Rs. 18 lakh (on-road). A ventilated driver's seat is a must-have feature. Which EV would you recommend within this budget?

For a 100km daily commute, you need an EV with a reliable real-world range, good comfort and low running costs. Also, ride comfort is crucial for the long daily drives. The MG Windsor is spacious and gets ventilated seats with a comfortable real-world range, but the ride isn't comfy, and the seats aren't the best either. The Tata Nexon EV is the best fit here. It offers a real-world range of around 300km from its 45kWh battery, which gives you plenty of buffer for your daily usage, and it comes with front ventilated seats in the Empowered+ trim. The Nexon EV is also one of the most proven EVs on the market, with a strong service network and good ownership experience. The only thing to keep in mind is that the boot is on the smaller side, so if you regularly carry a lot of luggage, it is worth checking if it meets your needs. Overall, it is the most practical and well-rounded EV in your budget.
