Hi, I currently live in Bengaluru and am looking to buy an automatic car for my office commute. My commute is typically around 100 km per week. Given the current ethanol situation, I am considering buying an EV. I have a charger in my apartment, and there is also a fast charger nearby. My budget is around Rs. 20 lakh. I currently drive a Volkswagen Ameo and am planning to keep it for long trips. I also tried a 2021 Tata Nexon EV, but I didn't like the cabin space. I also didn't like the design of the MG Windsor. Should I consider buying a used EV or a new EV?

Our recommendation would be the new Kia Syros EV. With a 100km/week commute, home charging and a Rs 20 lakh budget, it is the best EV for a city like Bengaluru. In your budget, you can get the HTX Plus trim with the ER (Extended Range) battery that is larger at 51.4kWh with a claimed range of over 500km. Moreover, it is compact on the outside, which makes it very easy to manoeuvre in traffic, but has a surprisingly spacious interior. Big on practicality and a good feature list make its case stronger.

A used electric car only makes sense if the battery health is good and range isn't affected. Other issues like tyre and suspension wear are crucial, so buying one brand new is always a better bet.

The Kia Syros EV checks all the boxes for me as my first EV: good fit and finish, ample space, easy drivability and, importantly, the promised buyback. However, the dealer has now told me that Kia has not yet finalised the buyback programme, despite it being announced with so much fanfare. Should I be concerned about buying an EV without the promised buyback, and should I consider alternatives?

The Kia Syros EV is a very well-rounded product and one of the most compelling EVs in its segment. If it fits your requirements in terms of space, finish and driving experience, it remains a strong recommendation. The buyback scheme, while attractive, should not be the sole reason to buy the car. These schemes are often subject to terms and conditions, and the final value is usually dependent on mileage, condition and ownership period. If the scheme is not yet finalised, it is better to treat it as a potential bonus rather than a guaranteed benefit.The Syros EV is a good product in its own right, and if you are happy with the car, you should not let the uncertainty around the buyback scheme be a deal breaker.

Hi, I am looking to buy a car. I like the Syros EV Blackline as well as the Duster Iconic Launch Edition. My commute is about 70km per week for office, and I would try to take a day trip over the weekend at least once a month, along with longer 700km round trips once every 3-4 months. I am seeking advice on what makes the most sense for my usage. I am also open to other suggestions. Also, if I choose the Duster, should I wait for the Duster Hybrid? What advice would you give?

Go for the Kia Syros EV Blackline. Your weekly commute is low, and your usage pattern is predictable, which makes an electric car a very sensible choice. This Kia car offers a comfortable ride, a premium cabin and enough range to handle your monthly day trips without any anxiety. For the occasional 700km round trip, you will need to plan charging stops, but with the growing charging infrastructure, this is manageable.The Renault Duster Iconic Launch Edition is a great driver's car with strong performance and excellent ride quality, but your usage does not justify a petrol SUV. The Duster Hybrid is worth waiting for only if you are specifically looking for a petrol car with better efficiency, but it will not fundamentally change the ownership equation for your usage pattern.If you are open to other ideas, the MG Windsor EV is worth considering if you need more space, but the Syros EV is the more premium and better-finished product. Overall, the Syros EV Blackline is the best fit for your needs.

I live in Bangalore and want to buy a car. My usage is around 20km per day, at least three times a week, along with a few day trips around Bangalore within 100km and a couple of weekend trips around Bangalore for leisure. I like the Syros EV Blackline and Duster Iconic Launch Edition. Both are in a similar budget. What would you recommend? Are there any other cars you would suggest?

Go for the Renault Duster Iconic Launch Edition. Your usage pattern - 20 km a day, a few 100 km day trips, and regular weekend getaways- points towards a car that is comfortable on highways, fun to drive, and easy to live with. This Renault car is exactly that. It has a strong turbo petrol engine, a well-sorted chassis and a ride quality that is among the best in the segment, especially on broken roads and highways around Bangalore. It is also a genuinely enjoyable driver's car, which will make those weekend trips more engaging.The Kia Syros EV is a good EV, but your usage does not justify an electric car. You are not doing enough daily kilometres to offset the higher upfront cost, and your weekend trips will require more planning around charging infrastructure. If you want a more premium and feature-rich alternative, the Kia Syros is worth considering, but the Duster is the better driver's car and offers a more engaging ownership experience.

I am confused between the Elevate and the Creta. I understand that the Creta is the more established one, but with Honda, the value it brings is amazing, while the price of the Creta is a bit higher than the value it offers. Go for the Toyota Innova Hycross strong hybrid. With your daily running of 15-20 km and occasional 60-70 km trips, a diesel does not make financial sense, and the hybrid will give you significantly better fuel efficiency in city driving than petrol. The Hycross is also the more comfortable and spacious 7-seater, with a proven Toyota ownership experience and lower long-term maintenance costs. The XUV 7XO is the better driver's car, offers more features and has a more premium cabin, but for your usage pattern, the Hycross strong hybrid is the more sensible and hassle-free choice.

Help me choose the right car for my usage. Please be practical and challenge my assumptions. My situation: I am 31 and work as a software developer. Shortlist: - Tiago XE Petrol - Punch Pure+/Smart Petrol - Punch Pure+/Smart CNG - Brezza LXi turbo-petrol Please tell me: 1. Which one should I buy and why? 2. Petrol vs CNG for my usage? The CNG premium is around Rs. 1 lakh, and the nearby village pump may open around Diwali, but this is not guaranteed. 3. What real-world mileage can I expect with the AC on? 4. Please consider loan interest, fuel costs, maintenance, depreciation, and resale value. 5. Is the Brezza worth the extra money? 6. Give me one final choice and tell me what I should avoid.

The Brezza LXI Turbo is far superior to the Punch and Tiago as far as smoothness, performance, and cabin space are concerned. It is also backed by Maruti's widespread support network, and the ownership experience is likely to be fuss-free. The on-road cost of the Brezza LXI will fall within your Rs 9 lakh budget, and even though you might miss a few features, it still feels worth opting for. Alternatively, you could also consider the Maruti Dzire VXI MT for its large boot, comfy ride and strong fuel efficiency.
