Can I buy the MG ZS EV in 2026? I am getting the Exclusive Plus model for Rs. 18.5 lakh on-road.

The MG ZS EV has been around since 2021, and it has barely been updated since. As of today, there are far more modern, better equipped, and more efficient electric cars available in the market. So even though the pricing is attractive, we'd advise you to consider a newer car instead. For Rs. 18.5 lakh on-road, you can consider the Kia Syros EV, Vinfast VF6, Tata Curvv EV, or even the MG Windsor.

There is a new generation Nexon due; however, there isn't a firm timeline known so far. If you can wait, we would suggest waiting until the Bharat Mobility (Auto Expo), which is due to be held in early February. The plans for the new Nexon might be made clearer by then, and if not, you would have a few more electric options to choose from. Hyundai, for instance, will showcase its small EV called the Ioniq P. If you must have an EV right away, then yes, the Nexon is a good choice, but you can also consider the Kia Syros EV; it would be a bit more expensive but would offer you more space and a better-tuned powertrain.

I’m considering buying the Tata EV Accomplished, but I’m quite confused after coming across several negative reviews about the car and Tata’s after-sales service. Yes, Tata Motors is not the last word in reliability or service quality. Having said that there have been many improvements to the products and many issues have been sorted out. Dealer improvements are also being made and in many cities there are new format dealerships being opened which have received some encouraging feedback. If you are confident about the dealer in your area, then that would be one less worry for you. However, if you are still worried about reliability and service quality, we would recommend you look to the Kia Syros EV or the Hyundai Creta Electric, as both cars will meet your requirements of reliability and service quality. Furthermore, they have well-sorted powertrains that are easy to drive and refined too.

I’m looking to buy an electric car with an on-road budget of under Rs 15 lakh. My daily driving is around 50–60km within Thane city, along with a weekly round trip of approximately 80km between Thane West and Andheri West. I’m looking for an EV that is comfortable, spacious enough for four occupants, offers decent rear-seat space and has a practical real-world driving range. Which electric car would you recommend for my requirements and budget?

The Tata Punch EV is a good choice for your requirements. It will comfortably fit within your budget. It offers enough space for four passengers to sit in reasonable comfort and the ride quality is also pretty good. The Punch EV offers enough pep for your commute, and the 40kWh battery pack also delivers more than sufficient range for your requirements. Your budget can get you a range-topping Empowered S trim, which gets plenty of feel-good features, including a sunroof, leatherette upholstery and front seat ventilation. If features are not at the top of your priority list, you should consider the Kia Syros EV as an alternative. The Syros EV is significantly larger than the Punch EV and offers a lot more passenger room as well as luggage space. The Syros EV also delivers good ride comfort and should comfortably meet your requirements for range even with the smaller of its two battery packs. Your budget will get you the Kia Syros EV 42kWh in base HTK trim. However we'd urge you to increase your budget or perhaps haggle harder with your dealer to get the HTK Plus, which packs in a few additional but very meaningful features, such as a rear-view camera.

I am planning to buy the top-end Hyundai Creta Turbo Petrol DCT variant. My daily running is around 50–100km, which adds up to approximately 25,000–30,000km annually. I am looking for a car that offers strong performance and quick acceleration, along with a comprehensive set of comfort and convenience features. Should I buy the current Creta Turbo Petrol DCT top variant or wait for the 2027 Creta? For context, I currently own a 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire Hybrid and a Volkswagen Virtus GT 1.5 TSI.

The 2027 Hyundai New Creta will be thoroughly updated inside-out, and it'll have more tech and features. If you don't mind waiting, it makes sense to get the 2027 new-gen model. Do note, its powertrain options are likely to be carried forward from the current version. If you can't wait, but still want the performance as well as the latest in terms of tech and features, consider the Kia Seltos turbo-dct instead, which packs in more or less everything the next-gen Creta is likely to offer.

Which SUV would you pick for a family of 5?

I’m planning to buy a new car, and my annual running is around 40,000km, primarily involving highway drives and ghat sections. I have shortlisted the Kia Seltos Diesel HTX and the upcoming facelifted Toyota Innova Hycross ZX. I’m considering two approaches: either buy the Innova Hycross and keep it for the next 10 years, given its reputation for longevity and the expectation that its engine can last at least 4 lakh kilometres, or buy the Seltos, drive it for around 2 lakh kilometres over 4–5 years, sell it and upgrade to a brand-new Seltos or another car of a similar price and size. On paper, the Innova Hycross Hybrid seems like the better choice, considering its long-term reliability and features such as the Ottoman reclining seats. However, I’m concerned that I might get bored of it after four years or that it may start feeling outdated as newer technologies and features enter the market. This makes the second option appealing, as it would allow me to upgrade to a brand-new car every 4–5 years. Which approach would make more sense in the long run, considering my high annual running and ownership costs?

It seems like you're leaning towards the Kia Seltos Diesel HTX, and we think it is a good choice. The diesel engine feels adequately powered for highway usage and ghat driving, and it is likely to return respectable efficiency too. Moreover, despite being modern with all the latest tech and features, the Seltos will be substantially more affordable than the Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid. So unless you need the Innova's extra space, or you frequently travel with six or seven passengers, the Kia Seltos diesel is your best bet.
