Kia Syros expert review
We like
Stylish, high-quality interiors
Very comfy and spacious rear seats
We don't like
High NVH levels in both petrol and diesel
The Syros is based on the smaller K1 platform, unlike the Sonet, which uses the K2. This newer platform allows advanced features like remote diagnosis and OTA updates for body controllers โ the Syros has 16 of these. The reinforced K1 structure includes hot-stamped body parts, and the Syros has achieved a 5-star BNCAP test rating.
The Syrosโ quirky styling will not appeal to everyone. Thereโs funky elements like ice-cube headlights pushed to the corners (vulnerable to parking damage), an upright nose, and EV-inspired closed grille. Wheel sizes vary from 15- to 17-inches, with black cladding running around the car. The tail-lamps merge into the cladding, and the rear gets L-shaped DRLs.
7.0
The interior is a strong point, with excellent space and segment-first features like cooled and reclining rear seats. Design is mostly conventional with some quirks, like a squircle steering wheel. Four interior themes are offered with youthful accents and ambient lighting. Sustainable materials lend a premium feel, and hard plastics are minimal.
The 2,550mm wheelbase exceeds rivals like the Brezza and Nexon. Rear seat comfort is a highlight, with sliding, reclining seats and good legroom. Only the seat base is cooled in the rear due to packaging constraints. Front seats offer better lumbar support. Boot capacity ranges from 390 to 465 litres depending on seat position.
10.0
Power comes from a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (120hp/172Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel (116hp/250Nm). The petrol is paired with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT. The DCT delivers an 11.63s 0-100kph time. Thereโs some lag below 1,500rpm, and the engine is vocal past 2,200rpm, hinting at limited insulation.
The diesel offers good low-end torque and smooth, if lazy, auto shifts. In both engines, refinement suffers as engine noise becomes noticeable past mid-range revs. The petrol manual is engaging with a springy clutch and defined gear gates.
8.0
Due to its weight, fuel economy is underwhelming. Claimed figures: 18.20kpl (manual), 17.68kpl (auto). Real-world city mileage was lower โ 9.10kpl (manual petrol), 8.30kpl (auto petrol), and 10.80kpl (diesel auto). Highway mileage improves modestly.
6.0
A firm suspension setup controls body roll to some extent but makes ride stiff over ruts. Diesel variants feel sharper over bumps. Steering offers good highway stability but feels heavy in the city.
8.0
The Syros is well equipped, with a large glass panel housing a 12.3-inch touchscreen, digital instrument panel, and a 5-inch HVAC touchscreen. Main climate controls are physical toggles. Lower trims get buttons instead of the HVAC screen.
Other key features include a Harman Kardon 8-speaker system, โHey Kiaโ voice assistant, 360-degree camera, dual-pane sunroof, and connected car tech. Thereโs also radar- and camera-based ADAS, including smart cruise control and lane assist. Additional safety includes hill start assist, ABS with ESC, and 6 airbags and it has a 5-star BNCAP rating.
9.0
Priced between Rs 9 lakh and 17.8 lakh, the Syros sits between the Sonet and Seltos. Itโs clearly built around comfort and features, not performance or highway cruising. NVH levels disappoint, but the rest โ spacious interior, reclinable cooled seats, extensive equipment โ makes it a compelling urban SUV for comfort-seekers.

Trending Questions on Kia Syros - Answered by Autocar Experts
Hi, I currently drive a 2015 Honda Jazz diesel with 200,000km on the odometer . I have got the best in everything from the same. Most of my travel is in Pune city, where I clock around 100 km per day, and once a month, I travel 1000 km outstation. So in total, around 3000 km approximately in a month. My budget is โน15 to โน18 lakh, but I need a better 5-seater SUV and expect a strong balance of mileage, power and style. Kindly suggest, as I am a big fan of diesel cars.
I am confused between the Sierra diesel and the Seltos NA petrol MT. I want to buy a safe car. Seltos looks good and is good to drive. Will Seltos score 5 stars in safety as they use the K3 platform?
What is the advantage of buying a four-cylinder car? Which car is good for rear-seat comfort? My budget is below โน12 lakh.
My budget is around โน12-14 lakh. I want to buy a sub-4-meter SUV. My weekly driving is around 100-120 km. I am considering the Kia Syros HTK Plus Turbo Petrol Manual variant and the Hyundai Venue HX5 Turbo Automatic Petrol variant. Which will be the better option?
In this comparison, we would recommend the Kia Syros as you get more car for your money. The Syros gets the same powertrain as the Hyundai Venue but gets the DCT gearbox, as it makes driving in city traffic a lot easier.
The Syros is also a bigger car overall with more space in the cabin, rear seat and also a bigger boot. You also get premium features like a panoramic sunroof and alloy wheels in the Syros.
The one area where the Venue is ahead of the Syros is the ride comfort, but apart from that, in every aspect, the Syros is a better choice. The HTK+ with the DCT will fit in your budget and is our recommendation.
I am planning to replace my Vento due to the 15-year expiry of registration, and I am keen on the Syros top model. However, I am getting confused as the carโs sales numbers are not encouraging. Can you please suggest? We are a family of two adults and two kids, with mostly city driving and occasional inter-city tours.
We are 5 people who goes on trips frequently, our journey will be on both highways and unpaved roads with potholes. We are looking to buy a car which meets below requirements 1. Having ADAS L2 2. 360 camera with blind spot detection 3. Torque min 260, higher the best 4. Min 120hp, higher the best 5. Boot space min 400 6. Good leg space in the back seat 7. Fog light and high beam detection mandatory We are ok with either manual or automatic gear, sunroof is not required. Looking for mid suv so suggest the best car which offers above under 17L. If we can get 7seater is also great.
For your budget of Rs 17 lakh, there isnโt a single SUV that ticks all your boxes. Youโll have to compromise somewhere. At this price, you can either get a spacious, powerful SUV thatโs well-suited to rough-road trips but misses out on some premium features like ADAS and a 360-degree camera, or you can get a feature-loaded smaller SUV that wonโt be as spacious or as strong mechanically. The third option, of course, is to stretch the budget, which honestly would make things much easier.
Given that you are five people travelling frequently on highways and broken roads, the Mahindra Thar Roxx 4x2 diesel makes the most sense from a core SUV perspective. Itโs spacious enough for five, has a strong 2.2-litre diesel with 152hp and solid torque, and its ladder-frame chassis and suspension are built to take a beating on bad roads. Boot space is decent, and rear legroom is usable for long trips.
However, within Rs 17 lakh, youโll only get the MX1 variant, which does not offer ADAS. To get Level 2 ADAS, youโll need to stretch to the AX3 L variant at around Rs 20 lakh. Even then, it still wonโt give you a 360-degree camera thatโs reserved for the top AX7 L variant, which is closer to Rs 23 lakh.
If you are absolutely firm on ADAS Level 2, 360-degree camera and high-beam assist within Rs 17 lakh, youโll have to step down to a smaller SUV like the Kia Syros HTX Plus (O). It offers the tech you want, but youโll compromise on outright space and performance. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol makes 118hp and 172Nm, which is well short of your torque requirement, and while itโs among the roomier compact SUVs, itโs not in the same league as the Thar Roxx for five-adult road trips or rough-road durability.
Our advice? Stretch to the Thar Roxx AX3 L. Youโll get the space, toughness and performance that actually matter for the kind of usage you describe. A 360-degree camera can be added through a good aftermarket solution.
I am looking for a replacement for my Honda Jazz. I want something that matches the driving experience, reliability, safety, and spacious cabin of the Jazz. I checked out the Skoda Kylaq, but it felt low on rear-seat space compared to the Jazz. What other options do we have in the market?
I want a sub-4-meter compact SUV for mostly city driving. I am only looking at petrol automatic options. The car should have decent rear space as we are a family of five, and maintenance should be low. Can you suggest some good cars? Also, is there any car expected to launch within the next 3-4 months that I should wait for?
Since you are a family of 5, we would recommend the Mahindra XUV3XO as it has a wide rear seat, which will allow for comfortable three-abreast seating. The 3XO also comes within the 4-meter mark and offers two petrol engine options. We would recommend the regular turbo MPFi unit and not the direct injection (TGDi) engine. It delivers more than enough performance for city driving and would be more efficient in real-world scenarios. With Mahindra, the maintenance costs will also not be very high.
As an option, you can also consider the Kia Syros, which also has a spacious rear and feels more premium inside.
How good is the Kia Syros AT petrol? My travel is around 1500-1800 km per month, with 80% city usage. Please suggest which to choose between Kylaq, Syros and 3XO.
Hello, firstly thanks to Autocar for guiding and helping common folk over the years! Kudos! I was planning to buy a car for City use (Mumbai), car to be primarily driven by parents, daily drive would be maximum 10km, need an automatic. Constraints - Parking space is tight, so planned to go with sub 4m cars, since it'll be for parents needed easier ingress and egress without pressure on knees. Narrowed to Brezza. Is it a good choice? If not what alternate cars can be considered? Furthermore, when is the facelift for Brezza due? There is no urgency as such to buy, what do you suggest should we go ahead now, or wait out for the facelift? Thanks!
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is a good choice for your requirements. It is a spacious, practical, and compact SUV that is easy to drive in the city. The 1.5-litre petrol engine lacks punch and delivers mediocre performance. But it's smooth and refined and, coupled with a fairly responsive automatic gearbox, does the job for city driving quite well.
More importantly, the Brezza is easy to get in and out of thanks to wide-opening doors and a comfortable step-in height.
The Brezza is also a very reliable car, and Maruti's service network is very strong, so you won't go wrong there. The facelifted Brezza is expected to be launched later this year, though we are not aware of an exact timeline.
The other alternative cars you could consider are the new Hyundai Venue, which is today the best overall compact SUV, or the Kia Syros, which is extremely spacious, especially in the back seat.
