Questions you may find useful

I am looking to buy a new diesel manual sub-4m SUV within a 15 lakh budget. I have shortlisted the XUV 3XO AX5 and the Syros HTK+. I want the space and rear-seat comfort of the Syros, but I also want the ride and driving feel of the 3XO. My priorities are safety, fuel efficiency, family comfort, service, and driving, in that order. What would you advise?

Go for the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5 diesel MT. For your requirements of safety, family comfort, and driving feel, it fits your requirements best under ₹15 lakh. Between this and the Kia Syros, the XUV 3XO rides more comfortably on broken roads, feels more stable at speed and is nicer to drive. The steering is easy in the city and steady on highways, and the suspension soaks up bumps better, so your family will feel less tossed around. Rear seat space is also a strong point in the 3XO, with good width and support, so two adults plus a child will be happier on longer trips. Diesel mileage is good on both, and Mahindra’s service reach is wide, though perhaps not as seamless as Kia's.One thing to be aware of is boot size. The Kia’s boot is larger, so if you carry big suitcases often, you will feel the difference. Also, the AX5 is well-equipped, but the Syros’s cabin is better finished. The Syros HTK+ diesel MT has the advantage in terms of fuel economy and slightly lighter controls for pure city use. Both cars have 5-star NCAP ratings. And for you, the 3XO AX5 strikes the better balance overall.

I want to buy a new manual car. My usage will be short city drives, nearby weekend trips, and 2-3 monthly trips to my hometown (approximately 300 km round trip). The car should have good ground clearance to handle poor roads in town. My budget is ₹10-12 lakh (on-road). My priorities are safety, comfort, mileage, and decent rear seat space. I also want a sunroof. I have shortlisted the 3XO, Syros, Nexon, and Kyaq, but I’m open to other suggestions. Are all five-star safety ratings equally safe? Should I choose CNG, petrol, diesel, or naturally aspirated or turbo?

Since your usage is limited, the premium you will pay for a diesel or CNG car over the turbo-petrol might not make sense. Hence, stick to their turbo-petrol versions only. Both, the Mahindra XUV 3XO and Skoda Kylaq are great options, with strong engines, a comfortable ride and confident handling. The XUV 3XO is more spacious, while the Kylaq has a bigger boot. The Kia Syros is an excellent, well-rounded car, too, but its entry-level variant, which is decently equipped otherwise, doesn't get a sunroof. Hence, since you want a manual car with sunroof, within Rs 12 lakhs, the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5 is the one for you.

I am currently using a 2018 Baleno Petrol Alpha. My usage is 4,000km monthly, with 85%-90% highway travel. The car is usually driven with a driver and two rear-seat passengers. I am looking for a new car with excellent mileage, 5-star safety, and good rear-seat comfort. I also have a 2019 i20 Asta for city commute and a 2017 XUV500 for family outings. I have no issues with buying a diesel or strong hybrid within a Rs 15 lakh budget.

Unfortunately, there are no strong-hybrid cars available within Rs 15 lakhs. Since your usage is significant, and you're chauffeur-driven usually, we'll recommend you consider the entry-level diesel-manual variants of the Kia Seltos and Tata Sierra. Both of which will deliver impressive fuel efficiency, have comfy back seats and have secured a 5-star BNCAP crash safety rating. The entry-level variants of both these cars are equipped with ample safety kit, as well as the basics that you'd expect in a car of this price. If you want something a bit smaller, you can consider the Kia Syros diesel-manual too, which is surprisingly spacious for its size, and being a segment lower, you'll get more equipment too. What's more, the Syros' rear seats can recline to a very comfortable angle, and even slide back to free up more legroom. Even the Syros has scored 5 stars for its crash safety.

I'm looking for a car with a sunroof and a budget of around 15 lakh. Most of my driving is in the city, but I also do a 500km highway trip once a month. I'd also like good fuel efficiency. Which car would you recommend?

You could consider the Hyundai Venue Turbo-Petrol DCT, which is a well-rounded car. The powertrain is smooth, performance is adequate, and with light controls and good visibility, it is rather easy to drive. Additionally, it is spacious and feature-rich, with the sunroof you're looking for. The real-world Hyundai Venue mileage in the city goes up to 11.5kpl and 16kpl on the highways. These fuel efficiency figures are quite decent for this segment. If you want a car with a bigger sunroof, look at the Kia Syros. It has the largest panoramic sunroof in the compact SUV segment. It is surprisingly spacious, and it shares its turbo-petrol DCT powertrain with the Venue.

I am looking forward to buying a car, for which my budget is 12 lakhs. I do not drive, and my daily commute is around 90 kms, of which 70% within the city. I can stretch my budget till 14 lakhs if I get the value for my money in terms of rear seat comfort and mileage. I want to buy a petrol car with a manual transmission. What would be my choice of car if I want to avoid entry-level models?

Consider the Hyundai Venue HX5+ with the 1.2 petrol manual. It fits comfortably in your budget, has a spacious and comfortable back seat and gets features like rear AC vents and a rear window sunshade. If you'd like, and even a roomier rear seat, the Kia Syros is a great choice, but it only comes with the turbo petrol, which will be slightly less fuel efficient.Stretching your budget to Rs 14 lakh gets you options from the midsize SUV segment. Among these, the Kia Seltos and the Honda Elevate 1.5 petrol manuals are strong choices. The will be roomier than the Venue, with more comfortable rear seats, and will be relatively fuel efficient in the city. However, your budget will get you the lower-end trims, which may lack some features. Alternatively, you could consider the Honda City.Overall, for your budget, the Venue is a great fit.
