Iโ€™m 72 years old. At present, I drive a Maruti Swift. My running is not too much and is limited to local driving. My budget is around โ‚น25 lakh. I want a 5-seater petrol automatic SUV with good height and strong road presence. Which vehicle would you recommend?

You can pick the Mahindra XUV 7XO, the AX7T Petrol AT variant. Although on paper it is listed as a 7-seater, it satisfies all your other requirements. It has great road presence, been refreshed recently, and looks more muscular now.
This Mahindra car offers a commanding driving position, easy ingress and egress for the first two rows, and it is well-equipped. Its third row is practically unusable by adults, and you can fold it flat to open up a large boot space. It has a 2-litre turbo Petrol engine, which has strong performance, and the 6-speed AT is a smooth unit. The ride quality has been improved and optimised for handling Indian roads.

Team, please help. We have shortlisted the Mahindra 3XO AT and the Brezza AT, with a budget of โ‚น12-15 lakh. The car will be used mostly for city driving. We need a spacious and reliable car for a family of 4-5 members. Driving will be calm (no rash driving), and the car will primarily be driven by a lady. Please suggest between these two.

Both the Mahindra XUV 3XO and Brezza are spacious, well-rounded cars, and both are available with a smooth, 6-speed torque converter (automatic). The key difference between the two cars is their engine - the XUV 3XO is powered by a stronger, turbo-petrol engine, which makes driving a lot more effortless, be it in the city or on the highway. On the other hand, the Maruti Brezza comes with a larger, 1.5-litre petrol engine, but it is responsive and performs reasonably well within urban confines.
The Brezza has an edge when it comes to ride and seat comfort, whereas the XUV's steering is a touch lighter, and its interiors are brighter than the Brezza's. On the whole, the Mahindra's more modern outlook, value pricing, and its relatively more effortless performance gives it an edge.

Hi Team. I need your advice on whether the Thar Roxx would be suitable for my usage. I am currently driving a 2015 Hyundai i10 manual and am planning to change it. About 90% of my driving is within the city, with a monthly running of around 1,000 km. The car is mainly used for home-to-office commutes, weekend city trips, and once-a-month highway drives. Now that the Roxx Star Edition has been launched, I am interested in it. Please suggest whether it is suitable for me. If yes, should I choose petrol or diesel? I prefer an automatic, but that will exceed my budget. I have a budget constraint of around โ‚น17 lakh on-road with a BH number. Please suggest other suitable options if the Thar Roxx is not ideal.

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is the most refined, sophisticated, and easy-to-drive ladder-frame SUV Mahindra has made yet, and its intention is to rival more conventional midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta.
However, some shortcomings of a ladder-frame SUV still remain. It is a large SUV whose boxy dimensions aren't ideal for the city, and its ride comfort is not as good as that of a conventional midsize SUV with a lot of movement inside the cabin. And its engines - both petrol and diesel - while powerful and relatively smooth, return very poor mileage, which will be a huge contrast after your 2015 Hyundai i10 manual. Still, it is a very appealing SUV, especially on the looks front, and it offers all the modern features you could want too, so if you are willing to put up with these shortcomings, you can check it out.
Do note, however, that the Roxx Star Edition will be outside your budget of Rs 17 lakh, even for the manual version. Otherwise, we would recommend waiting for the new Renault Duster to be launched in March 2026; it will offer similar tough appeal at a possibly more affordable price.

Hi, I want to buy an SUV with more power than the Hyundai Creta. The main purpose is to go on trips to the hills - I donโ€™t need serious off-roading. I want a plush, reasonably fuel-efficient SUV; I donโ€™t need a six-seater. My budget is around โ‚น20-25 lakhs. I live in Delhi - does a diesel vehicle make sense for average annual driving of 10-12k km?

Since you want more power than your current Hyundai Creta, the best option for you is the recently launched Mahindra XUV 7XO.

Considering your Delhi NCR location and your limited running of under 12,000 km a year, we would recommend the petrol version. The turbo petrol engine is powerful, refined, and delivers effortless performance, making it a clear upgrade over your Creta.

Given Delhi conditions, we would also suggest the 6-speed torque converter automatic. It is smooth, quick shifting, and will make daily driving far less stressful.

With the facelift, Mahindra has also improved the ride quality, added more features, and overall, the 7XO feels more premium and modern inside and out.

Within your budget, you can go for the AX7 variant, which is well-loaded and comes with all the features you would expect at this price point.

Hi, I want to buy a new car with a budget of โ‚น20 lakhs. I am interested in a full-size SUV, not a compact one, and I prefer an automatic transmission. My monthly running will be around 1,500 km, with about half of that on highways. Which car should I choose?

We would recommend you go for the recently launched Mahindra XUV 7XO. Although your running is not that high, we would still recommend you choose the diesel variant as the petrol engine, though silky smooth and powerful, is not very fuel efficient. And considering half your driving is on the highway, there is an unlikely chance of facing any DPF-related issues with the diesel variant.

The diesel engine is also refined, and the 6-speed torque converter automatic is smooth and quick shifting, which makes city driving and highway overtakes effortless. In your budget, you can get the AX5 diesel AT, which is well-equipped.

I own a 2017 Hyundai Xcent SX(O) diesel that has been driven around 1.07 lakh km. Now I am thinking of changing it. The options in my mind are the Kia Sonet HTK+(O) petrol or the Honda Amaze ZX (MT), but from my research, both feel underpowered due to their naturally aspirated engines. Are there any better petrol options around a โ‚น10 lakh budget? I donโ€™t want to continue with diesel because they are now overpriced and have many emissions concerns. Please suggest.

Yes, you are right. The Kia Sonetโ€™s and Honda Amazeโ€™s 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engines, although fine for city use, will feel a bit down on power for highway duties. Especially compared to your Hyundai Xcent diesel, you own currently. It has a lot more torque; these cars will feel slower in comparison and wonโ€™t really feel like an upgrade.

In your Rs 10 lakh budget, you can look at either the Mahindra XUV 3XO REVX M or the Skoda Kylaq Classic Plus. Both these cars are powered by turbo petrol engines, which give them strong performance, and both are genuinely enjoyable to drive. The Mahindra scores big on cabin space, making it one of the most comfortable cars in the segment for five adults. While the Skoda Kodiaq offers a much larger boot, which adds to its practicality.

If you are looking for better efficiency and a lighter clutch for a more effortless driving experience, you could also consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza LXi. However, in Marutiโ€™s case, we would recommend waiting as an update is due soon.

Which car would be more suitable for city use and occasional highway driving: the Swift or the Ignis? My budget is around Rs 8 lakh, which can be stretched. Or should I look at lower variants of the Sonet or 3XO?

In your budget, you can get the Swift VXI (O) and the Ignis Alpha petrol manual. Between the two, we would suggest going for the Maruti Suzuki Swift as it is the newer car of the two and has a more modern cabin with better interiors.
The one distinct advantage the Maruti Ignis has over the Swift, however, is that it still uses the older 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine, which is smoother and feels more peppy compared to the new three-cylinder engine in the Swift. On the upside, the Swift will prove to be more efficient.
If you are going to be driving more often on the highway, we would also suggest considering the Mahindra 3XO or the Skoda Kylaq. We would not recommend the absolute base variants, though, and suggest the REVX M in case of the 3XO and the newly launched Classic Plus in case of the Kylaq, as they offer the basic features you would want without feeling too stripped out.
The advantage of the 3XO and the Kylaq is their turbo petrol engines, which make them more versatile as the added power helps them handle both city and highway duties better. They are also five-star rated in Bharat NCAP, which adds an extra layer of safety.
We would not recommend the Kia Sonet right now as it is due for an update soon, and the lower variants come with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine, similar to the Swift and Ignis.

I own a 6-year-old petrol MG Hector automatic. My budget for a new EV is Rs 22 lakh for a 5-seater. My monthly usage is about 1,600 km. Please suggest the best EV from the existing lineup and any expected new launches.

Given your budget, the Mahindra XEV 9S in its Pack One Above guise would be a good choice. In this price range, it offers the largest battery pack at 79 kWh and a real-world range of around 447 km on a single charge.
What's also impressive is the performance and spacious cabin, along with a feature set highlighted by the triple-screen layout. This Mahindra car also supports DC fast charging up to 160kW, making top-ups faster. Overall, as a complete package, it stands out from the rest.

My daily travel is about 60-70 km in heavy traffic, with monthly usage averaging between 1,440 and 1,780 km. My budget is Rs 20-22 lakh for a 5-seater EV. Please suggest the best car among existing models, or I am willing to wait up to six months for upcoming options.

Since your average driving is on the higher side, a comfortable electric SUV will be a good choice. The Mahindra XEV 9S in its Pack One Above guise would be our recommendation, as it comes with a large 79 kWh battery pack and a real-world range of around 477 km on a single charge.
It also offers a well-appointed cabin with lots of features and strong performance. It is a 7-seater, but the last row is suitable for children, and you can always fold it down and use it as a big boot space. Seating is comfortable with large, comfy seats, and the space overall is very good.

I am planning to buy a new petrol car for a family of 3 adults and 2 children. I am confused between the Hyundai Venue HX10, Tata Nexon Fearless Plus with ADAS, and Mahindra 3XO AX7L. I want fully loaded features. I live in a village, but the road conditions are good. Second-row comfort is my primary concern. Which is the best choice? Any other suggestions in the same segment?

The Mahindra XUV 3XO is a good option as it is spacious, offers a comfortable second row, and the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is punchy and enjoyable to drive. The 3XO also gets a long list of features, including a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Tata Nexon is another good option. It is not as spacious as the 3XO, but it is still comfortable and has a good amount of features. The Venue is the newest car in the segment, and it does feel like one, too. It also gets a larger touchscreen and a bit more modern interior, but overall, the 3XO will fit your needs the best. The rear seat is spacious and more comfortable, the engine is more responsive, and it is loaded with features, especially in the top variants.
