Go for the Kia Carens Clavis diesel automatic. It is the most sensible and well-rounded choice for your requirements. The Carens is a genuinely spacious seven-seater with a comfortable third row, which is important when the car will be shared between families. The diesel automatic is the right powertrain for strong fuel efficiency and effortless performance, especially on highways and with a full load. The Carens also comes well equipped with features like a panoramic sunroof, and Kia’s service network and ownership experience are among the best in the segment. The only real drawback is that the Carens does not have the same SUV-like road presence as some rivals, but as a practical family car it is hard to fault. Pick the Hyundai Creta 1.5 turbo DCT SX(O). It gives you Level 2 ADAS features, a big panoramic sunroof and feels nice to drive on long highway runs. It will likely sit closer to your Rs. 23 lakh cap than the Alcazar, which usually crosses it. If you truly need the third row a few times a year, the Alcazar DCT also works well, and it gets all the features you're looking for, but the last row is best reserved for short durations.About fuel, don’t overthink it. Hyundai’s current 1.5 turbo petrol is E20-ready and runs fine on today’s fuel. E27 or E30 is not around the corner yet, and buying now will not put you at a disadvantage in a few months.

It is the smoothest step-up from your i20 and the most complete long-term choice here, with a calm CVT automatic for city traffic, a comfortable ride, and Hyundai’s wider service reach and resale backing you over 8-10 years.The Creta gets ADAS on the top automatic trims, and you still get the big sunroof and all the tech you’d want. However, it does miss out on a powered tailgate, which the Duster gets. If you're okay with not having that feature, the Creta represents the best option here.

However, within your budget, you will have to settle for mid-range variants of all three. In terms of long-term ownership, Kia has been known to offer a better after-sales and service experience than Tata or Mahindra, which is worth keeping in mind as you're keeping the car for 10 years. The Syros is also the most spacious for both passengers and luggage, has the highest-quality interior and the most modern tech of the three. That being said, its firm suspension gives it the bumpiest ride and its engine, though refined, doesn't feel as punchy as the others. Between the Nexon and the XUV 3XO, the Mahindra is the better all-rounder, with more cabin space, a smoother, more powerful engine and better refinement. Overall, however, we think the Syros will be the better option for you.
