With the facelift, the Punchโs design has been aligned with the Punch EV that debuted in 2024, giving it a more contemporary face. Up front, you get vertically stacked LED headlamps positioned in the bumper, with LED DRLs placed higher up within gloss-black trim. Unlike the EV, thereโs no lightbar here, but the execution still looks clean. The reworked bumper features thick black body cladding and a silver surround for the air intake, lending the Punch a slightly more muscular and rugged stance.
In profile, changes are minimal, with the silhouette remaining the same. The most noticeable update is the new 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, the facelift brings new LED tail-lamps connected by a light bar, which visually widens the car and aligns it with Tataโs newer models. A revised rear bumper with a faux silver skid plate rounds off the SUV-inspired look.
The Punch facelift is offered in six colours: Bengal Rouge, Caramel, Coorg Clouds, Cyantafic, Daytona Grey and Pristine White, with the first four being all-new additions. It continues to sit on Tataโs ALFA platform and retains 90-degree opening doors for easy access. Ground clearance is 193mm, while water-wading capacity is rated at 400mm.
8.0
Inside, the layout is largely familiar, though there are some notable updates. The new two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo adds a more premium touch, while the revised touch-based climate control panel looks modern but isnโt very intuitive to use on the move. Top-spec variants now get a 7-inch digital instrument cluster with customisable displays, though some information appears a bit small. In the CNG version, it also shows petrol versus CNG usage.
The seats retain fabric upholstery but now feature a refreshed design inspired by the Punch EV, finished in a black-and-grey theme. Theyโre well-cushioned, and the high seating position offers good visibility. A significant upgrade is the addition of extended thigh support for both front and rear seats, which improves long-distance comfort.
Rear-seat space remains generous for the segment, with good kneeroom and a flat floor that aids comfort for a third passenger. That said, the backrest feels slightly upright, headroom will be tight for taller occupants, and only the outer rear passengers get adjustable headrests. On the plus side, rear AC vents, a type-C charging port and a fold-down centre armrest have been added.
Boot space stands at 366 litres for petrol versions and 210 litres for CNGs, with both getting a spare wheel mounted under the car.
8.0
The Punch remains well equipped, especially in the range-topping Accomplished+ S trim. Highlights include a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity, a single-pane sunroof, auto climate control, connected tech, ambient lighting, blind-spot monitoring, cruise control and 16-inch alloys.
New additions include the 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a sharp 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging, an auto-dimming IRVM and an 8-speaker sound system. Safety is comprehensive, with six airbags as standard, ESP, TPMS, hill hold and descent control, ISOFIX mounts and three-point seat belts for all passengers. The Punch facelift has also earned a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating.
9.0
Unusually for a facelift, Tata has introduced two new powertrains: a turbo-petrol manual and a CNG-AMT. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, borrowed from the Nexon, produces 120hp and 170Nm and is paired with a 6-speed manual. It transforms the Punch, delivering strong performance and eager responses, with Tata claiming a 0-100kph time of 11.1sec. The gearbox, however, has a heavy clutch and slightly notchy shifts when driven hard.
The CNG-AMT uses the familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine with 73hp and 103Nm. Performance is modest, but itโs adequate for city use and relaxed highway driving. The AMT behaves well when driven gently, and the transition between petrol and CNG modes is smooth. Dual CNG cylinders under the floor help preserve boot space, and Tata has added CNG-specific safety features.
8.0
We couldnโt conduct real-world mileage tests, and official figures are yet to be revealed. One downside is that the turbo-petrolโs MID doesnโt display efficiency below 8kpl, which can be misleading.
7.0
Ride and handling remain standout strengths. The suspension feels robust, soaking up rough roads with composure, while stability at higher speeds is excellent. The light steering is city-friendly yet consistent on the highway, and body control through corners is impressive. Even on an off-road course, the Punch performed admirably, backed by strong, progressive brakes.
9.0
Prices start at Rs 5.59 lakh, but top variants stretch up to Rs 10.54 lakh, overlapping with the Nexon. While the naturally aspirated petrol remains a weak point, the turbo-petrol finally adds the punch the SUV needed, and the CNG-AMT broadens its appeal. Overall, the updated Punch builds on its strengths and looks set to continue its strong sales run.

Trending Questions on Tata Punch - Answered by Autocar Experts
I am looking for a compact car under โน6 lakh. I am open to buying either a new car or a second-hand one, but my main condition is that the car should not have very low or very high seating, as there is a knee problem in the family. Please suggest which car would be a good option to buy within this budget.
For your needs, either the Tata Punch or the Maruti Suzuki Ignis would be a good option. The Tata Punch sits at a comfortable height, and its doors open up to almost 90 degrees, which makes ingress and egress easier. The seating position is also not too tall, so it should feel comfortable even for someone with knee issues.
If you want something that feels more spacious, especially in the rear seat, then the Ignis ticks all the boxes as well. Its 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine is smoother, more responsive and nicer to drive too.
To buy these cars brand new, even the base variants will be slightly above โน6 lakh on-road. If you are okay with stretching the budget a little, you can go ahead with a new car. Also, you can consider used versions of higher variants within your budget.
I'm a new driver on the road. Been driving a Celerio (second-hand) for the last 2 years in Bangalore. Looking for an automatic petrol car within a budget of โน9.5 lakh. My priority is safety and ease of adapting to the new car. I am thinking of a Punch. Looking for your suggestion.
I am confused between the Punch CNG automatic and the Nexon CNG. Since the Punch is available with an automatic and almost all the same features as the Nexon, should I go for the automatic comfort with the Punch, or will the Nexon still be a better choice?
I want to buy an automatic car mainly for city use with a budget of around โน10 lakh. I shortlisted the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, but I have heard rumours that its production might be stopped. Is there any update on this, and what are some good alternatives to the Ignis?
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is still in production. It is worth noting that the Ignis is a bit long in the tooth now, and sales are very low, especially so by Maruti standards. Thus, there could be a possibility of it being discontinued or updated. In any case, being a Maruti model that has been on sale for a while now, you would still be able to get it serviced for a fairly long period of time.
If you are, however, worried about this, you could consider the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch, which are two cars that will offer similar benefits of being compact, high-riding and available with an automatic transmission.
As a first-time buyer with usage of around 400 km per month, mostly on bumpy hill roads, and a budget of around โน10 lakh (could extend some), what could be the best car? (Open to any brand.)
1) Skoda Kylaq: Tough build, punchy engine, fun handling. Rear seat space isnโt ideal for three passengers.
2) Mahindra XUV 3XO: Tough build, suspension comfort, strong engines, roomy interior. Boot isn't the largest.
3) Tata Punch Turbo: Small dimensions make it suited to hills, and ample power from the turbo engine. Smallest for rear seat passengers
4) Citroen C3 Turbo: Great engine, good ride comfort. Feels a bit basic, dealer network isn't the largest.
I need a typical hatchback for city use in Delhi. I have narrowed it down to the Ignis and Punch. Long-term reliability, low service cost and fuel economy are a must. Please suggest whether I should buy the Ignis or the Punch CNG.
I am planning to buy a new car but am confused between the Tata Punch Pure Plus (2026), Maruti Suzuki Baleno Delta, and Maruti Suzuki Fronx. My budget is around โน8 lakh, but I can stretch it up to โน9 lakh. My usage will include both city and highway driving, and at times, there will be three passengers seated in the rear. I am also considering increasing my budget further to buy a Tata Nexon, which has added to my confusion. Could you please help me choose the right option?
The new Tata Punch is a solid choice in the Rs 8 lakh budget; however, it is quite narrow, which means seating three in the back seat can be a bit tight. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is better in this regard, with a slightly wider and more comfortable rear seat, but do visit both showrooms and experience them yourself. Both cars are comparable in terms of performance and efficiency, but the Balenoโs four-cylinder engine is more refined than the Punchโs three-cylinder unit.
Apart from the different body style and slightly raised suspension, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is essentially the same as the Baleno. Therefore, the main reason to upgrade to the Fronx is if you need the higher ground clearance or want the turbo-petrol engine, which is not available on the Baleno.
Regarding the Tata Nexon, to get a reasonably well-equipped variant, you will need to stretch your budget to around Rs 10 lakh and opt for the Pure Plus petrol variant. For the additional money, you get an SUV body style, a roomier cabin with a better rear seat than the aforementioned options, and a turbo-petrol engine with much stronger performance. If it isnโt too much of a financial burden, it is worth stretching to get the Nexon. But if you want to stick to your budget, the Baleno remains a good choice.
i am confused between tata altroz and tata punch . please give me advice.
If you compare them directly, the Tata Altroz offers more value for money. Both the Altroz and the Tata Punch are similarly priced and equipped, but the Altroz is a larger hatchback. It feels wider inside and offers a greater sense of space, which makes it more comfortable for passengers.
Another advantage of the Altroz is the choice of automatic gearboxes. While the Punch only offers a basic AMT automatic, the Altroz comes with AMT in the lower variants and also a DCT automatic in the higher variants, which delivers a far more polished and smoother driving experience.
However, the 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine used in both cars is best suited for city driving. On highways it can feel a bit underpowered, especially when overtaking or carrying a full load. This is where the Punch now has an advantage. With the latest update, it is available with a turbo petrol engine as well, which offers stronger performance. Interestingly, this turbo engine was earlier available on the Altroz before its facelift but is not offered on the current version.
