Hi, I’m planning to buy an automatic petrol SUV and I’m confused between these two options: Kia Seltos HTK(O) IVT Petrol and Hyundai Venue HX8 DCT Petrol. The on-road price difference is around Rs 3 lakh, so I want to understand whether the Seltos is truly worth the extra cost. My typical usage includes office commuting twice a week, with a one-way travel time of about 1 hour 15 minutes, mostly in city traffic. I also do weekend trips with my wife and occasional trips with family or friends, usually with 4-5 people. The only factor strongly pushing me towards the Seltos is the panoramic sunroof. However, I currently drive a Punch, so I am a little doubtful about handling the Seltos’ size in city traffic.

The reason is simple. Your driving is largely city traffic with occasional family use, and in that scenario, the Seltos’ naturally aspirated petrol with the IVT automatic is the more relaxing and long-term friendly package. The Venue’s 1.0 turbo DCT is peppier and quicker, but in heavy stop-and-go traffic like your 1-hour 15-minute office commute, a DCT is not the ideal transmission if smoothness and peace of mind matter. Hyundai itself positions the Venue turbo with the 7-speed DCT, while the Seltos IVT is Kia’s smoother CVT-style automatic option. The Rs 3 lakh premium is not just buying you a panoramic sunroof. You are also getting a significantly larger and more comfortable cabin, much better rear seat space for family use, a more substantial boot and a car that simply feels a segment above the Hyundai Venue. Since you already own a Tata Punch, the Venue will not feel like a dramatic step up in size or cabin experience, whereas the Seltos will.On the length concern, yes, the Kia Seltos is noticeably bigger than your Punch, and for the first few days in city traffic, you will be conscious of that. But, this is something most drivers adapt to very quickly, especially with a rear camera and parking sensors. It is not large enough to become a burden in everyday urban use.So the real question is whether you value the extra space, comfort, and smoother automatic enough to justify Rs 3 lakh. For your usage, especially with regular traffic and occasional full family trips, we would say yes, the Seltos is worth it. If your use was mostly solo city driving and budget mattered more, the Venue would make more sense.

I'm confused between three. Car is mostly for my dad, i use it rare. Daily commute: Let's say, at max 7 times a month, need to go 25km. Otherwise 3 km for daily work. Mostly city driving Coming from Santro Xing 2004, so any feature feels like an upgrade. going for reasonable top variants, so feature gap is minimal. Help me choose between i10 nios Asta Swift zxi + Punch Adventure. My family is inclined to punch as they find the design awesome, this car is for my dad mostly, i rarely use it, so he is not a heavy driver, but short 5'3. So, punch offers better view and safety. But i'm tilting to i10 nios as it is 4 cylinder. But my uncle who has 2018 i10 is facing suspension issues, so my parents are in the idea of i10=suspension bad, less space inside. But i like the quality of cabin interiors and the look, moreover there's some soft corner for hyundai blue lights interior. No specific reason to go for swift, except its wider, and suzuki's reliability.

Go for the Tata Punch Adventure, and consider the AMT if you want an easier automatic for your dad. For mostly city use, short trips and a shorter driver, the Punch’s high seating position, upright stance and large glass area make it much easier to drive and place on the road. Getting in and out is also more convenient, and the suspension handles speed breakers and rough patches well, which suits everyday urban use. Coming from a Santro Xing, it will feel like a big step up in space, visibility and overall road presence, and since your family already likes the design, it adds to the ownership appeal.Do note that the Punch’s 1.2-litre engine is a 3-cylinder unit, so it is not as smooth or quiet as the Hyundai at idle, and the AMT can feel slightly jerky at low speeds. However, for relaxed city driving, it remains easy to live with. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Asta is the better choice if you prioritise a smoother, quieter engine and a more premium-feeling cabin. It is easier in stop-go traffic and feels more refined overall, and the current model does not have any widespread suspension concerns. However, its lower seating position and lower ground clearance make it slightly less convenient for an older, shorter driver. The Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXi+ is reliable and wider, but its low seating and driving position make it less suitable for your specific use case.

I am planning to buy the Tata Punch facelift automatic CNG variant, but I am very confused between the available variants. My key requirements are cruise control and a 360-degree camera in the automatic CNG version. Could you please advise which variant I should choose?

Verified
18w

The Tata Punch CNG-AMT is available in four variants - Pure +, Adventure, Adventure S and Accomplished + S. While a 360-degree camera is part of the package from the Adventure trim onwards, cruise control is, sadly, not offered on any version of the Punch CNG-AMT. Cruise control is part of the package on the Punch NA petrol MT, NA petrol AMT and CNG MT.

Hi, I’m looking to buy a car. My budget is ₹10 lakh. My main considerations are mileage, safety, and frequent drives through rough roads in hilly areas. I have shortlisted the Tata Punch and Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Would any of these make sense? If not, what would be the best alternative option?

Verified
35w

Between the ones you shortlisted, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx would be the better choice. The main reason is the performance, which is better than the Tata Punch and something you would need in hilly regions. This Maruti Suzuki car is also better in terms of efficiency and has a comfy ride over bad roads. As a package, the Fronx is the better choice.

Hi, I’m looking for an automatic car for my daily office commute, which is less than a 20 km round trip. The traffic is dense, so my main priorities are ease of driving and good safety features. Please suggest which automatic would be best between the Tata Punch, Citroen C3X, and Hyundai Exter. My budget is under ₹12 lakh.

Verified
36w

Of the three, we’d recommend the Citroen C3X. It’s the nicest to drive, thanks to its excellent 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and smooth 6-speed torque-converter automatic - a combination that feels far more refined and responsive than the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engines and AMT gearboxes in the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. The C3X doesn’t match the Punch’s five-star crash-test rating, but since your driving is mostly at low city speeds, its compliance with current Indian safety norms should be adequate. The only drawback is Citroen’s limited service network, which isn’t as extensive as Tata’s or Hyundai’s. That said, Citroen cars have proven to be reliable and well-engineered, so maintenance shouldn’t be a major concern.
