Hello Auto Car Team, I am planning to buy my first car and would appreciate your guidance. My primary usage will be monthly trips to my hometown, covering around 800 km per trip, once or twice a month. Most of the time, the car will be used by two occupants. My budget is around Rs. 10 lakh, although I can stretch it by another Rs. 1 lakh if the additional value is justified. The cars currently on my shortlist are Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi, Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro, Honda Amaze VX and Tata Punch Adventure Turbo. My key priorities include good fuel efficiency, safety, comfort for long-distance travel as well as low maintenance and reliability as this will be my first car. Given my requirements and budget, which of these cars would you recommend? Also, if there are any better alternatives that I should consider, please let me know. Thank you for your help.

Given your usage pattern of regular 800 km highway trips with two occupants, your priorities of fuel efficiency, safety, comfort and low maintenance, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi is the most sensible choice from your shortlist. Since a lot of your driving is going to be on the highway, opt for the turbo petrol manual. It has much better overtaking performance than the naturally aspirated version and with a tall sixth gear, fuel efficiency will be good too. It is also a proven, reliable and low-maintenance car with a comfortable ride, good highway stability and a strong service network, which is exactly what you want in a first car that will see long-distance use. The downside is that the turbo doesn't come with an automatic option.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro is the more modern and feature-rich option, however the Brezza still has the edge in terms of long-term reliability. The Honda Amaze VX is a good sedan with a comfortable ride and Honda's reputation for reliability, but given your highway usage and the occasional rough patches you may encounter, the higher ground clearance and more robust nature of the Brezza make it the better fit. The Tata Punch is a good value proposition, but it is a smaller car and not as well roomy as the Brezza.

Overall the Brezza VXi remains the most balanced and dependable choice for your requirements.

@amar6699 Go for Amaze because I have travelled with four other persons. It is easy to drive even in narrow streets or village lanes. Go for the petrol version only. Honda spares will be slightly higher but rarely some parts need to be changed. Luggage space is minimum but adequate. Honda is reliable and resale value is good

I'm looking for a car under Rs.15 lakh for daily commute in city of around 60km. Safety is my first priority and I'm preferring an automatic as my dad will also drive it. Currently, I own a 2011 1st generation Swift petrol and XUV 700 diesel AT for highways and long trips. I'm staying away from Tata as I don't want my dad to face any headaches due to Tata's horrible service. Mahindra has excellent service in my city at all service centers so I'm also thinking of 3XO. Please suggest me which options would be good for my case.

Given your requirements, the Mahindra XUV 3XO automatic is a very strong recommendation. It is one of the safest cars in the segment, offers a comfortable ride, and Mahindra's service network is clearly a positive factor for you. The automatic gearbox is smooth and easy to use, which will make daily city driving far less tiring for both you and your father. The 3XO also offers a wide cabin and a solid feature set, making it a well-rounded package for city use.The only real drawback is the boot, which is one of the smallest in the segment. However, since you already have the XUV 7XO for highway trips and family travel, this is unlikely to be a major issue. If you are open to alternatives, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza automatic is worth considering. It is also a safe car, has a comfortable ride, and Maruti's service network is excellent. The Brezza is a simple, reliable and easy-to-drive car that will suit your father's usage very well.Overall, the 3XO automatic is the best fit for your requirements, with the Brezza as a strong backup option if you want a more straightforward ownership experience.

I am 52 years old and have been driving since my 20s. I need to drive around 2,500km a month, with 55% of the driving on highways, 30% on rugged rural roads and 155 in the city. My commute includes travelling to and from my farms, so I also need to occasionally transport 200-250 kg of fertiliser or farm produce. My budget is around Rs 10-12 lakh. Please advise which vehicle I should buy.

Given your usage pattern, the Mahindra Bolero is the most sensible recommendation. Your monthly running is high, with a significant highway component, but the key factor is the 30% rugged rural roads and the need to occasionally carry 200-250 kg of farm produce. The Bolero is built exactly for this kind of use case. It has a tough ladder-frame chassis, simple mechanicals and a reputation for durability on rough roads. The diesel engine is robust and well suited to long-distance running, and the suspension is designed to handle poor road conditions and heavy loads without complaint. It is not the most refined or feature-rich vehicle, but it is reliable, easy to maintain and has excellent service reach in rural areas. At your budget of Rs 10-12 lakh, it is also one of the few vehicles that genuinely meets your requirements without compromise. If you want something more comfortable and modern, the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel is worth considering, but it will not be as rugged or as load-friendly as the Bolero. For your specific needs, the Bolero remains the most practical and dependable choice.
