I am 62 years old. My monthly running is about 800 to 1,000 kms, mostly on highways. I want driving comfort. I have shortlisted the Toyota Hyryder G(O) mild-hybrid automatic petrol and the Kia Seltos HTK(O) automatic. Please suggest which is better for me.

The Kia Seltos is newer, smoother, and it feels more modern compared to a Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The Kia's petrol-IVT combination is very smooth and seamless, and Kia has got the suspension tune spot on for comfort.
Moreover, its front seats are broader and more comfortable than the Toyota's, so you will be able to spend long hours driving on the highway without fatigue.

I’m planning to purchase a petrol automatic SUV in the ₹15 – 20 lakh (on-road) price range and would really appreciate your guidance. Here’s what I’m looking for: Best possible real-world fuel mileage in bumper-to-bumper city traffic — this is very important since I drive mostly in the city. And on good weekend of a month for highway or outtoors Automatic transmission that feels smooth and stress-free in traffic jams (not jerky). Long-term ownership focus — I plan to keep this car for several years, so I want: High safety (good crash ratings and safety features) Strong reliability and durability Low maintenance costs Good after-sales support and service network in Karnataka SUV models I’m considering: Hyundai Creta (automatic petrol) Kia Seltos (automatic petrol) Tata Nexon (automatic petrol) Hyundai Venue / Venue N Line (automatic petrol) Skoda Kushaq (automatic petrol) Mahindra XUV700 (automatic petrol — if it fits the budget) If you’ve driven these in city conditions, or own one, please let me know: How is the actual mileage in city traffic? How comfortable and smooth is the automatic transmission in stop-and-go traffic? Any issues with maintenance, reliability, or service costs you experienced? Which variant (mid / top) offers the best value for long-term ownership? Also which transmission to go for TC, DCT, AMT, IVT, AT

You have a wide choice of cars, but based on your requirements, we would suggest going for the new Kia Seltos.

Within the Seltos range, the 1.5 litre IVT automatic in the HTX variant fits within your budget and offers a very good mix of premium and essential features. It meets almost all your requirements. The 1.5 litre naturally aspirated engine is refined, and the IVT gearbox is silky smooth, especially at low speeds, which makes it extremely easy to drive in stop go city traffic. It also has enough performance for weekend highway use and, while fuel efficiency is not phenomenal, it should consistently return better figures than the turbo petrol options you have shortlisted. The newer generation Seltos has also grown in size, interior space and overall cabin quality, which is now among the best in the segment. Ride quality has improved significantly too, and it feels comfortable both in the city and on the highway.

The Tata Nexon and the new Hyundai Venue are good options, but their turbo petrol engines paired with DCT gearboxes are not as smooth as the Seltos’ IVT. The Seltos is also a size larger, more comfortable and feels more premium overall. The same applies to the turbo petrol powered Skoda Kushaq, which again will not feel as smooth as the Seltos in daily use. The Mahindra XUV 7XO is another size up and, while its 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine is powerful and smooth, the larger size makes it less easy to drive in the city and fuel efficiency will be much lower. Within your budget, the AX3 variant just about fits, but it misses out on several features that the Seltos offers.

The Hyundai Creta is also a good option and uses the same engine and gearbox as the Seltos. However, it is expected to be replaced early next year and, compared to the Seltos, it is smaller, less spacious, offers fewer features and is similarly priced. Because it is nearing replacement, the current model will also age quicker. That said, if you are getting a strong deal on the Creta, it is still worth considering.

Another car you should look at is the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Strong Hybrid. It meets most of your requirements and will be even smoother to drive at low speeds, as it runs on electric power for a large part of city driving. Being a Maruti Suzuki, reliability and after sales support are strong points. It has also scored a 5 star BNCAP rating, and as a hybrid, fuel efficiency is exceptional. In fact, you can expect close to double the mileage of most of the cars you have shortlisted.

A few things to note, however: the Victoris is not as spacious as the Seltos, especially in the rear seat, and boot space is compromised due to the hybrid battery pack under the boot floor.

Hi I am looking for a new petrol automatic car with a running of 70% city and 30% highway with strong road presence and milege should range in between 12 to 16 kmpl. I am confused in between Tata harrier petrol , new kia sealtos and scorpio N Please suggest which option to go for in a budget of 18 lacs

The cars you have shortlisted are very different, but based on your usage and your mileage requirement, we would suggest going for the Kia Seltos with the 1.5 litre naturally aspirated engine paired to the IVT automatic.

The new Seltos has grown in size compared to the previous generation, which not only improves interior space, comfort and boot capacity, but also gives it better road presence. While it lacks outright punch, for most real world conditions and sedate driving it has more than enough performance, both in the city and on the highway. The biggest strength of this powertrain is its refinement and smoothness, which makes the Seltos a pleasure to drive, especially in urban conditions. In terms of mileage, the Seltos with this engine and gearbox should come close to your requirement of 12 kmpl or more, something the other two cars are unlikely to achieve. You can get the HTK(O) variant in your budget which is well loaded with features too.

The Tata Harrier petrol, on the other hand, is larger and has more presence, but it is also more expensive. In fact, the Harrier turbo petrol with the 6 speed automatic costs over Rs 20 lakh on road, which is more than Rs 2 lakh over your budget. Fuel efficiency will also be lower than the Kia’s, as the Harrier is heavier, more powerful, and turbo petrol engines are generally more sensitive to throttle inputs.

This issue is even more pronounced in the Mahindra Scorpio N. It is the heaviest car here, uses a large turbo petrol engine producing over 200 PS, and while it delivers effortless performance, efficiency takes a hit. Being based on a ladder frame chassis, it is more rugged, but for everyday use it won’t be as comfortable as the other two. If you want to buy a Mahindra, we would suggest looking at the new 7XO instead, as it is more practical, more comfortable, and will also be more fuel efficient.

I am 62 years old. My driving is mostly on highways, and my yearly driving is about 10,000 km. I have shortlisted the Kia Seltos HTK(O) automatic IVT petrol and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Neo Drive G automatic petrol. Please give suggestions between the two.

Of the two options you've shortlisted, the Kia Seltos HTK (O) with the CVT automatic is the better choice for you. It is more spacious and comfortable, and its powertrain is smoother and more powerful, too. Moreover, it is a newer car with a more up-market cabin, including modern tech and features. It's also far more spacious - both in the rear seat and the boot - and better for five passengers. It's an easy SUV to drive, too, with a tall seating position and good visibility.
The one advantage the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has is that its real-world fuel efficiency is a bit better. But on every other front, the Kia Seltos comes out on top.

I am looking for a safer car I have rolled up to 2 options like Skoda kushaq facelift and Volkswagen Taigun facelift but few things are missing in kushaq facelift like 360 degree camera and Adas Does it really need or we have better options than these kushaq and taigun has 5 star rating also am not looking for tata cars because of their service centers issue

The Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun are indeed good options, and the fact that they have a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP is a big plus. The absence of a 360-degree camera and ADAS is not a deal-breaker, and they're still worth considering for their strong engines, smooth gearboxes and excellent driving dynamics.

Do note, however, that both cars are still a few months away, with the Kushaq facelift expected to launch in March, and the Taigun facelift a few months after that. If not those, you could also consider the new Kia Seltos. It hasn't been given an NCAP rating yet, but its smaller sibling the Syros has received a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, and as the Seltos is built on a new-gen platform, we expect it to get one too. The Seltos impresses with its features list, which includes a 360-degree camera as well as ADAS with Level 2 Autonomous driving.

My budget is around ₹24 to 26 lakh, and I am confused between the Hyundai Creta and the new Tata Sierra.

Between the two, considering your budget, we would suggest going for the new Tata Sierra over the Creta.
The Hyundai Creta is still a competitive product, but the Sierra has moved the game forward. It is larger on the outside, more spacious inside, and comes equipped with premium features, including a triple-screen layout and a powered tailgate. In turbo petrol automatic form, the Sierra is well matched to Hyundai’s turbo petrol DCT and, in fact, feels smoother at city speeds thanks to its torque converter gearbox. It also feels more confident at higher speeds, and combined with the roomier and more comfortable cabin, makes for a better long-distance car.
That said, if you are looking at a diesel, the Hyundai diesel engine is more refined of the two. Similarly, in the case of naturally aspirated petrol engines, there is no real competition. Hyundai’s 1.5-litre NA petrol is superior on all counts, and its CVT automatic is smoother than Tata’s dual clutch transmission.
One reason to be cautious about the Creta is that it is expected to be replaced early next year, which means it could start to feel dated sooner.
Another car you should definitely consider is the new Kia Seltos. It carries over the Creta’s strengths thanks to shared powertrains, but builds on them by being a newer generation car. It is larger than the Creta, even longer than the Sierra, offers more space than the Creta, has the most premium interiors of the three, and also undercuts the Sierra by over Rs 1 lakh, making it a very strong value

I want to buy an AMT midsize SUV under ₹18 - 20 lakh. Daily commute is around 30km, with a long trip once every three months.

The SUV you can go for is the Kia Seltos HTX Petrol CVT. The recently launched Seltos has grown in size, offering better cabin space and a larger luggage compartment than earlier. It is powered by a 1.5-litre NA engine, which is very refined, the power is good for everyday drive and the power comes smoothly.
The CVT gearbox is one of the smoothest CVTs around. Seltos also has modern features like front ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, 12.3-inch touchscreen and many more.

I own a 2022 Tata Altroz NA and want to upgrade to a bigger car that comfortably seats five people, within a budget of around ₹22 lakh. The Altroz has a very low driver's seating position, which caused backache on long drives, especially considering my height of 6 feet. It also felt a bit underpowered. For my next car, I am confused between the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 variant, the new Kia Seltos HTX variant, and the upcoming Renault Duster. My daily driving will include both city and highway usage, with occasional trips to the hills. Please compare these cars and suggest the most suitable option in terms of comfort, engine power and refinement, mileage, and maintenance cost. Also, should I now be considering a turbo engine instead of a naturally aspirated one, and should I opt for a manual or automatic transmission?

The Mahindra XUV 7XO is the most spacious and comfortable of the three options you are considering. The front seats are large and supportive, and the driver's seat is height-adjustable with soft cushioning and good support, which results in comfortable seating for taller adults. The rear seats are also very comfortable, and there is plenty of legroom and headroom for tall passengers. The 7XO is also the most powerful of the three options, and the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is very refined. It is also quite efficient, and you can expect a mileage of around 10-12kpl in the city and 14-16kpl on the highway.
The Kia Seltos is a good option if you want a more compact SUV. It is not as spacious as the XUV 7XO, but it is still quite comfortable. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is very refined and quite efficient. The Seltos is packed with features, but it just does not have the performance and comfort of the 7XO.
The Renault Duster is the least spacious of the three options, and it is also the least powerful. We are yet to drive it, so we will reserve our comments until we do so. Overall, our pick would be the Mahindra XUV 7XO for its strong performance, excellent ride comfort, spacious interiors and a feature-rich cabin.

I own a Hyryder hybrid and enjoy driving it. I now want to buy a new SUV with a budget of ₹25 lakh. My driving is 70% city and 30% highway, with an annual running of around 13,500 km. I am fine with a 5-seater as long as it offers decent mileage, comfort, and a stylish design. Please advise.

Be prepared that none of the options on sale can match the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder hybrid's outstanding fuel efficiency, especially in urban conditions. The new Kia Seltos diesel-automatic is an option you could consider for its modern and tech-laden approach, comfortable ride quality and smooth and efficient powertrain. If you don't mind driving a slightly larger vehicle, the new Mahindra XUV 7XO is another excellent option you could consider.

I want to upgrade my 2022 Brezza to a bigger SUV. I am fine with either a 7-seater or a 5-seater but want Level 2 ADAS, cruise control, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, and a powerful engine. My biggest condition is that I do not trust Tata and Mahindra cars. Please suggest relevant options.

Since you are looking for a 5-seater SUV with a powerful engine and a feature-loaded cabin, we would recommend you consider the Kia Seltos.
The SUV comes with a 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that is punchy, and it can be had with either a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The new Seltos also comes with a long list of features, including a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, and Level 2 ADAS tech. Kia Seltos turbo-petrol prices range from Rs 12.89 lakh to Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
