Kia Seltos scores 5-star safety rating in BNCAP crash tests

The Seltos received 31.70 points for adult occupant protection and 45 points for child safety.

Kia Seltos BNCAP crash test

The Kia Seltos has secured a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests, scoring 31.70 points out of 32 and 45 points out of 49 in adult and child occupant protection tests, respectively. Bharat NCAP crash-tested the diesel-automatic versions of the SUV’s HTE(O) and GTX trims, but the ratings apply to all variants. Notably, the Seltos achieved marginally higher scores in comparison to the Tata Sierra, which was tested earlier this month

Kia Seltos scores 5-star safety rating in BNCAP crash tests

The Kia Seltos provided ‘good’ protection for the driver’s head, chest, pelvis, thighs and right tibia. However, both feet and the left tibia received ‘adequate’ protection. On the other hand, all critical parts of the co-driver received ‘good’ protection.

In both the side movable deformable barrier and side pole impact tests, the critical parts of the driver and co-driver, such as head, chest, abdomen and pelvis, received ‘good’ protection.

In the COP tests, for both rearward-facing 18-month-old and 3-year-old child dummies, the Seltos scored full marks in frontal (8 out of 8) and side (4 out of 4) crash tests, respectively. It also achieved a perfect dynamic score (24 out of 24) and full points in child restraint system (CRS) installation (12 out of 12). However, it lost 4 points in vehicle assessment, bringing the overall child occupant protection score to 45 out of 49.

As standard, the Kia Seltos gets safety equipment such as six airbags, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, ABS, a tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ESC, stability control, hill-start assist, all-wheel disc brakes, downhill brake control, rear occupant alert and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.

Priced from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 19.99 lakh, the Seltos rivals the Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, Tata Sierra, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Maruti Victoris, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.
