The Tata Sierra has scored a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests. The SUV scored 31.14 points out of 32 and 44.73 points out of 49 in adult and child occupant protection tests, respectively. The ratings are applicable to all variants of the Sierra.

Frontal offset deformable barrier test: 15.14/16 points; Side movable deformable barrier test: 44.73/49 points

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Sierra provided 'good' protection to the driver's head, neck, pelvis, thighs and feet. The chest and tibiae, however, received 'adequate' protection. All the critical parts of the co-driver, except the right tibia, received 'good' protection.
In both the side movable deformable barrier test and side pole impact tests, the critical parts of the driver and co-driver, such as head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis, received 'good' protection.

Dynamic score: 23.73/24 points; CRS Installation score: 12/12 points; Vehicle assessment score: 9/13 points

Both the child seats of the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies were set to a rearward-facing direction in the child occupant protection test. The 18-month-old child dummy scored 7.73 out of 8 points in the frontal crash test, while the 3-year-old dummy scored 8 out of 8 points. Meanwhile, both dummies scored 4 out of 4 points in the side crash tests.
The Sierra achieved 23.73 out of 24 points for the dynamic score and full points (12 out of 12) in the CRS score. But it lost 4 points in the vehicle assessment score, bringing the overall child occupant score to 44.73 out of 49 points.

The Sierra is equipped with standard safety kit like 6-airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake with auto hold, traction control, and ABS with EBD. Trims higher in the lineup get a 360-degree camera, level 2 ADAS, auto-dimming IRVM, and blind spot monitoring.
